Isidro "Sid" Ramon Madrid, 70, of Las Cruces, N.M., died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at La Posada-Mesilla Valley Hospice. He was born March 9, 1938, in Vaughn, N.M., to Elena Montoya Madrid and Manuel Madrid, and Isidro Madril and Beatrice Madril, married Jane Aguilar (the love of his life) in 1958. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from January 1958 to August 1962.
He graduated from New Mexico State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1970 and retired from the Department of Army at White Sands with 39 years of service.
He was a Charter Member of St. Genevieve Knights of Columbus Council No. 13969 since Nov. 5, 2005. Isidro was honored by his Council as Knight of the Year (2007-2008) and as Knight of the Month (October 2007), and by District No. 11 as Knight of the Year (2007-2008).
He had volunteered as a tax preparer for many years and also served on an advisory board with the city of Las Cruces. Isidro was known for his unwaveringly high ethical standards, firm in his convictions and principles, even if they were not popular. He was a devout Catholic and member of St. Genevieve Catholic Church and faithful adorer at the Perpetual Adoration Chapel at IHM Cathedral for more than 10 years. He coached his son, Thomas, in soccer and played adult soccer and volleyball. He was very proud of having learned how to water ski and snow ski after age 40. He had a sense of humor, enjoyed the horse races, collecting coins and playing cards and pool.
Isidro is survived by Jane, his cherished wife, of over 50 years; beloved daughters, Diane Madrid (Dennis) and Nancy Lynn Lucero (Rick), both of Las Cruces; and beloved son, Thomas (Michelle), of Artesia; seven beloved grandchildren, Michael Anaya, Cambridge, Mass., Lonnie, Lane and Ricki Lynn Lucero, Las Cruces, N.M., and Chris, Dominic and Joshua Madrid, Artesia, N.M. He is also survived by six sisters, Alice Rael, Clovis, N.M., Betty (Bill) Rhinehart, Albuquerque, N.M., Lucia (Luis) Montoya, Clovis, N.M., Orphela (Alfredo) Roybal, Vaughn, N.M., Connie (Lucio) Guana, Tijeras, N.M., and Stella (Robert) Luna, Vaughn, N.M.; and his only brother, Alex (Mary) Madrid, Fort Sumner, N.M. He is greeted in heaven by his parents; his brother, Ernest; and his father-in-law, Pat Aguilar.
"Don't worry about me, for my journey is now complete. I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course." I have kept the faith - 2 Timothy 4:7
