Florence,

I would really love to find more info on the heritage of Ralph(Sr). My brother and I are interested in knowing where the family comes from . . . Ireland, Scotland?

A family rumor holds that a ggg?grandfather was a ship or riverboat captain here in the early US or UK ca 1700's? We have a small wooden captains chest that contains some very old artifacts such as glasses and shaving balm, straight razors with ivory handles. There is a 'secret compartment' behind the mirror where we found a business card of my grandfather, Donald Wilson Magee, an mechanic at the time. We want to know where this chest came from.

I'm planning to visit my brother this weekend, who inherited the box, I will take some pics of everything and post them here. Perhaps you or someone else can help us discover this history. Thanks again.

Christi,
Jacob Sweeney Magee born 1883 in Gentry Co MO is the son of George Tolbert/Talbert Magee born 1856 in Albany, Gentry, MO and his wife Agnes Zorilda Blanchard. George T Magee is the son of Irvin Magee born about 1825 in Madison Co KY and his wife Catherine Gibbany. Irvin was the son of Ralph Magee born 1796 in Madison Co KY and his wife Polly Stocker born abt 1800. That Ralph is the son of Ralph Magee born 1755 in Sussex Co VA, who was a revolutionary war pensioner, and his wife Mary Elizabeth Bell born 1761 in Sussex VA. This Ralph was the son of Ralph Magee who died in Sussex Co VA in 1770 whose wife was Ann/Anne, maiden name UNKNOWN.

You will find several descendents of Ralph on the the DNA website you mentioned. Dean McGee put a lot of work on that website, which has been very useful in sorting through the various families. He apparently used several trees submitted to LDS, which unfortunately are sometimes incorrect, and I believe he noted that sources should be checked.

I have sources for the information I have given you, and will be happy to share.

Florence

Southern Magee Family Association (USA)

Myself and Dell Clawson are sounding out the possibilities of forming a Southern Magee Family Association, and we would like to hear from those of you who might be interested in such an effort. The reasons for such an organization are manifold, but two points should suffice.
Firstly, the voluminous number of Magees in the South, and the equally large number of researchers working on them.
Secondly, a system by which sharing and distribution of information has long been needed in Magee research.
We feel that we would need to confine this task to the southern states, because "going national" would be way beyond our capacities right now...but perhaps at a later stage, this would be possible.
Our dream, and the focal point of the organizational task, would be the production of a quarterly "Magee Journal." Also, a yearly meeting would seem to be in order.
Let us hear from you. please respond to my e-mail bevincreel@aol.com (NOT to this board). If we have enough interest, perhaps we can get this thing going. If it doesn't fly, we'll get back to you and let you know. You may want to indicate in your response your Magee line.

Magee Family in Tylertown Pike/Walthall County Mississippi, USA

Looking for relatives of my grandmother, Aletha Magee Ternoir, a native of Tylertown, MS, born about 1900, who was married to Theodore (Frank) Ternoir. She lived in Biloxi, MS for over 40 years prior to her death. She had a much younger brother, Jasper L. Magee born in 1919, who was the son of Jasper and Nancy Magee. Since my grandmother and her brother were about 17 years apart, I don't think they had the same complete set of parents. Jasper L. Magee lived in New Orleans for years, and died in 2003, I think. He was married to Ora, but I can't find her or their children now since she may have relocated after Hurricane Katrina. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I have a copy of “Swan of Albany”, by Henry Heins, which I would like to get back in the hands of descendants of one of the families mentioned. The book describes the history of the oldest congregation of the Lutheran Church in America, was published in 1976, and contains information and photos of early pastors, one of whom was Rev. Irving Magee, who was pastor from 1872 to 1882. Please email me at margerice@prodigy.net.
