Looking for information about the McGraths from Philadelphia around 1853 to 1860. They may have been members of St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. I am looking for information on Anna McGrath who came to live with her brothers and work as a house servent. Her brothers worked in a store Called McGraths, has anyone heard about such a store?

William Married Amelia Pinnock in 1874 had 5 Daughters

Edith Kate (b 1877 in Portsea Hampshire England)
Ethel Mary (b 1881 in Portsea Hampshire England)
Irene Ella (b 1888 in Portsea Hampshire England)(Married Percival Townsend in 1910 in London)
Gladys Ivy (b Lewes West Sussex 1893) (my Wifes Grandmother)
we believe there was at least 1 son but No record of Him

We know that Irene moved to Canada in the 1920s as we have photos of the visits and we also believe that at least one of the other Girls moved to Canada or the USA about the same time but we have no married name.

I believe Peter Magrath came to New York via Canada. He would date back to the 1820's and married isabella Craig of St. John's, Newfoundland. They had my great great grandmother Margaret Magrath in 1844 and she was born in St. John's. She married Frank Lennon who was born in 1832 in Armagh, Ireland. Peter and Isabella's other children included Bella, Charlie, Dorothy, Eddie, Elizabeth, Frank, Henry, John, Mamie, Peter, Robert and Thomas. Peter's nickname was "The Baron" but i do not know the significance of this. Robert Haehle

My family is from Fermanagh, the name was changed to McGrath(originally Magrath on his birth certicate) when my grandfather came to america in 1920. He was from Irvinestown which is just noth of Eniskillen.

Rank and organization: Private First Class, U.S. Army, Company G, 85th Infantry, 10th Mountain Division. Place and date: Near Castel d'Aiano, Italy, 14 April 1945. Entered service at: East Norwalk, Conn. Birth: East Norwalk, Conn. G.O. No.: 71, 17 July 1946. Citation: He displayed conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty when his company was pinned down by heavy artillery, mortar, and small arms fire, near Castel d'Aiano, Italy. Volunteering to act as a scout, armed with only a rifle, he charged headlong into withering fire, killing 2 Germans and wounding 3 in order to capture a machinegun. Carrying this enemy weapon across an open field through heavy fire, he neutralized 2 more machinegun nests; he then circled behind 4 other Germans, killing them with a burst as they were firing on his company. Spotting another dangerous enemy position to this right, he knelt with the machinegun in his arms and exchanged fire with the Germans until he had killed 2 and wounded 3. The enemy now poured increased mortar and artillery fire on the company's newly won position. Pfc. Magrath fearlessly volunteered again to brave the shelling in order to collect a report of casualties. Heroically carrying out this task, he made the supreme sacrifice--a climax to the valor and courage that are in keeping with highest traditions of the military service.

Hey World, I need some help. Does anyone out there have a Scanport Scanner model Sq4830?

This is my problem, I had a Scanport 3004 and upgraded to 4830 and when I sold my old one I gave the guy the disk for my 4830. Now that I have a new computer I cannot load my scanner in because I have the disk for the 3004. I have comtacted the guy I sold it to and he does not remember who he sold it to. Bummer. I contacted Scanport people and they discontinued this model about 5 years ago and do not have any disks for it. All they have on line are the drivers but I need to delete the 3004 and install the 4830 and just downloading the drivers won't help.

If anyone has a disk I could borrow and return I would sure appreciate it.

Help needed badly in Spokane, WA. Thanks for a response from anyone on this. Thanks.

I am looking for any information on Samuel Magrath. I know that he lived in Roxbury, Boston, Massachusetts in the early 1900's (when my greatgrandfather was born) and was married to Catherine Jane McMasters or McManus?? They had several children Samuel and Jane are the only ones I know for sure.

My mother's father was Hamilton MaGrath. They lived in Brooklyn, NY. I never met him, as he died when my mother was 22. I am starting a search of my family history and wanted to see if anybody was familiar with him. As far as I know, he was not born in Ireland. He and his wife, Evelyn Cooper, married and had two children - Robert and Frances. Any info. would be helpful.

I am looking for the parents of Lawrence Magrath, or anything on him really. He married Alice Nesmith(from Maine).Lawrence was my Great Grandfather. He had 3 children, Rufus, Edward and Millie. My fathers father was Edward. I have nothing whatsoever on Lawrence. All I know is that they said he came from Ireland. I have heard Cork County and other counties over there.

I am from the Bradford line of ancestors. I have dates, on my mothers side, back to 1435.
On my fathers side (Magrath) I can only find back to my greatgrandfather. Kind of dead end there.My father Everett Rufus Magrath. was born 1/25/1887. His father was Edward, born 9/9/1961 and his father was Lawrence. I have nothing on him and no dates of any kind.

Renee, the only Edwin I have in my tree is my older(deceased) brother Edwin F. Magrath. We have been trying to get past my G-G-Grandfather Lawrence Magrath. We are at a road block. All we know is that he came from Ireland.

Edwin J. Magrath lived in Worcester, Mass in early 1900's. He was married to Mabel S. Ball. They are the parents of Elizabeth A. Magrath b. Jan 3l, 1888 in Worcester, Mass.
Edwin and Mabel are both shown as having been born in Mass on Elizabeths Birth record.
We can NOT find them on any census or marriage records in Mass.
Can anyone help us out? We are really STUCK!

MAGRATHS Canada to Maine/Mass

Hi Susan,

We have recently learned that there were 3 brothers who went to Canada from Ireland. One of them stayed in Ontario, one went to Alberta and the other went to either Maine or Mass.

Of Course we are hoping the 3rd bother went to Maine and may be the father of our James W. MAGRATH who was born in Maine about 1829.

If you or anyone else has any information on these 3 brothers (we don't have dates or names at this time as we just got this clue in the last day or so) we may be able to help a lot of people make connections.

Since last posting to the message board, we have been able to gather a little information on our MAGRATH family and are now stuck on James W. Magrath, b. abt 1829 in Maine.

1860 Groton (Middlesex)Mass Census tells us that James W. was 31, a carpenter and born in Maine. Wife, Abigail [(Simmons) Magrath], age 36, b. in Mass. At the time of this census, there was a 10 yr old child, Martha C. Hagen, b. Mass and sons Charles T. age 4 (b.abt 1856 in Mass) and Frank C. age 1 (b.abt 1859 in Mass) listed.
They also had a son Edwin J. born Sept 23, 1861 in Worcester, MA. Edwin married Mabel S.(Ball) Magrath in abt 1882 and had 6 children, Mabel F., Elizabeth A., Martha R., Alice E., Charles E., Louise A. (Elizabeth A. is my husbands grandmother)

James W. MAGRATH died Sept 1891 at the age of 62 and is buried in the Hope Cemetary in Worcester, Mass.(per cemetary records)

Any information someone could give us on James W., Charles T. and Frank C. MAGRATH would be greatly appreciated.

Do you know if your grgrandfather Charles moved to California at any time? We know, from Edwin's granddaughter that Charles was being visited somewhere in that state by his brother Edwin between 1915/16 and before Edwins death in 1935.

What we have on Charles T is:

Charles T., age 4, b. Mass abt 1856

We also have the birth records for their son Edwin J. MAGRATH b. Sept 23, 1861 in Mass.

Edwin is my husbands grgrandfather.

Now back to your question about Charles in Boston. If I am understanding your message correctly, It doesn't seem likely that our Charles T. would have been into a second marriage at age 19 (1875 - 1856=19)to have been the father of your grandfather. I am a little confused about who was married more than once,your grandfather or your grgrandfather?

I don't know if this information makes anything clearer or just muddy's the water some more! Let me know if I have it right or wrong so we can both be searching in the right areas. :-)

Hi All,

My husbands grgrgrandfather, James W. MAGRATH was born in Maine abt. 1829 per the 1860 Mass. Census. That is the only information we have about a connection to Maine! James W. m. Abby (Abigail) SIMMONS (b. in Mass.) and had at least three sons, CHARLES, FRANK C. AND EDWIN J. all born in Mass. (Edwin J. is my husbands grgrandfather) In the 1860 Census a 10 yr old girl, Martha Hagen was also living with them and going to school. We haven't been able to discover her relationship to the MAGRATH family.

We can find no birth record for James W. in Maine. At the present time a request to the NARA has been sent, for his Civil War Records. We are in hopes that these records will give us his parents names and a town/county of birth.

If anyone has any information on the MAGRATH family in Maine we would really appreciate ANY assistance you can give us.

Spring Valley NY - John R. Magrath and George J. Magrath

In 1930 Census I found my great-grandmother's brothers families. My g-grandmother was Sarah (Magrath) Eaton.

1. John Robert Magrath's widow Beatrice, and son John Robert Magrath.
2. George and Myra Magrath with 2 daughters Elelynn? (born abt.1912), Edith (abt. 1914) and son Robert (abt. 1916)

Does anyone know descendents of the Magraths from Spring Valley, NY?

Sarah, John and George were the children of G. James Magrath and Susan Magrath who came here from Scotland abt.1860.

My husband's grandparents were George and Myra Magrath from Spring Valley, NY. Ethelwyn was his mother. She died in 1986. She married Howard R. Molatch of Nanuet, NY. and they had two sons. They grew up in Spring Valley and New City, NY. Edith Magrath died in 1981. She married George R. Harms of Pearl River, NY. They had an adopted son. The youngest sibling was R. Warren (known by Brud) Magrath. He was in insurance and real estate in Spring Valley and Town Supervisor and Councilman in the town of Ramapo. He married Arline Pepper. They had one son. Myra Magrath died in 1943. George died about 1952. Would welcome any other info you have.

My Grandmother's name was Virginia May Nocas. Her Mother's Maiden name was Magrath. My Granmothers Maiden name was Whitman. I'm trying to find information about my family history on My fathers side. I thought I'd start with my Grandmother, seeing it's the only information I can find. I found her SS death index information with a little info. If anyone knows anything about a Magrath descendant who was married to a Whitman and had children named Virginia or Joan, please let me know. This is all so confusing, I don't know where to begin!!!

In it, it states, 'He was a member of Cherokee tribe, I.O.R.M'

What a shocker: I thought he was Irish to the bone!!
