Looking to see if there are any Maguires from Ireland that settled in Maryland or Wilmington, Delaware? My great grandparents were the first to migrate from Ireland with my great grandfather's siblings. There was a John, Mary, Joseph, Margaret, Charles, Edward, Frank and a Dennis. If anyone has any information on their parents, I would greatly appreciate it. My great grandmother was Elizabeth Chalmers.

Jo, I wanted to update you on our discoveries. Our Ann O'Hara, mother of John, Patrick, William, Mary, Catherine and Margaret, who settled in the Hamlet of Mexico, Town of Salisbury, Herkimer County, in the 1850's, was born Ann Devine in Ardee, Louth, Ireland, in 1790. We have discovered that she married there, as well. My distant cousins, who still live in the area, and I, have visited Ardee this year. I haven't had a chance to exchange all info with cousins, since we went separately to Ardee. Thought this might help you in your search. (Devine may be spelled "Davin" or "Devin.")

Unknown Maguire Photographs

These two photos were found by a daughter of Thomas R Maguire (1921-1991). She does not know who they are, but Thomas' parents were Charles J Maguire (b July 1889) and Henrietta Pemberton (1888-1982) so I am guessing these photos are either of Pembertons or Maguires and their spouses. Does anyone recognize them?

More details on the families are in my Tree or email me here or tmthylmnt@gmail.com.

Any help is welcome!
I do have a lot more on Patrick and Mary since my original post in 2000. Mary and Patrick were both born in Ireland abt. 1849. Mary's parents were Thomas Fitzhenry and Catherine Kinsella according to her death record. They were married in Phila. in 1884. There was a Bridget Fitzhenry that was a witness at their wedding. The other witness was Bernard Maguire. The priest that baptized their oldest child was a J.A. Maguire and one of the sponsers was a Rose Maguire.
To answer your question, this would be a different Mary Fitzhenry, but they still could be related. There weren't that many fitzhenrys around that area at that time.
Karen

Lorraine,

My name is Mike Devenney. My father's name is Robert Frances Devenney (son of John Devenney and Marie Flynn from South West) and oddly enough he married Wynne Maguire (daughter of Joe Maguire and Wynne Hammond from Schuylkill). My dad's brother Jack has a son named Jimmy, which is what drew me to this post and with the mention of Francis, I figured it's possible that's where Dad's middle name came from. There's a family story that my grandfather (John) and his sisters did know how to spell when they went to school and each of them ended up spelling Devenney slightly differently when they told the teacher what their name was. Not sure if that's family legend or if it actually happened but I've always wondered if there are other distant relatives out there. Any of those names sound familiar?

Hi,

Can anyone help, I'm looking for more information on Mary Maguire (1850) and Antony Maguire (1840), they had 3 children (that I know of)Please note all dates are approx.

The children were Thomas maguire (1867), denis maguire (1873), mary maguire (1875) and ann maguire (1878).

Mary maiden name was o'donnell (as I have ann's birth certificate), but I can only find info of were Mary was in 1891 and no other information about her. I also can't find Antony at all.

If anyone as any info would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Emily

Hi,

Don't know were Antony was born. Mary the mother... it says she was born in Dewsbury on the 1891 census. The kids Thomas, Denis and Mary were also born in Dewsbury, west yorkshire (according to the 1891 census), but the last child Ann was born in Manchester. On Ann's birth certificate it says Antony was a boiler maker which I assume is why they moved to Manchester due to the shipping industry there.

Thanks

Emily

My Great Grandfather Charles Maguire was born 1865 in Drumsillagh, Ensikillen, Co. Fermanagh, Ireland. He had one brother that stayed in Ireland named Denis, and there is believed one other brother that came to America with him. He came over in 1885 to 1887. I think it was 1887.

Hi, I was wondering if Michael Maguire was ever working in Kansas City Missouri? My Great Grandfather Charles Maguire came to America in 1885. It has been told to me by my father that his father told him there was a brother that came also? I found where my Charles Maguire was working as a bartender, well part owner, in Kansas City. There was a Michael Maguire working there also. But I cant find any other info on Michael. Charles was from Drumsillagh, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, Ireland. Now I am in contact with a relative in Ireland and there was a Cousin Patrick that came over to America also. I think his grandson was John "Jack" Maguire who married a Dorothy.
