I don't know if you are still looking at these threads, but I've got information to assist you with your search.

I too was born in Greensburg, PA....though not so young (1952). So...filling in some missing data:

Henry Harry Mahaffey (my grandfather)
Helen Louise Little (1)
...Thomas Oliver
...Estella McAnich
......Thomas
......Daniel Lee
......Timothy Ivan (your father)
......Lane Allen

So if you are still around email me at chm99@pacbell.net and I'll be happy to share all that I have. Also, you can get further information on this lineage at the www.familysearch.org site, as I've loaded my database up there also.

Thanks,
Chuck Mahaffey

I think I can help a little bit with this one...
Joseph Mahaffey married Mary Alexander they had a son named William Mahaffey. William married Elizabeth Cathey. They had Andrew Deaver Mehaffey (the spelling of the name changed). Andrew was born in North Carolina, married Mary McClendon and then they had a son named Nathan H. Mehaffey (born in Missouri). Andrew died in Crowell Tx. Nathan H. Mehaffey married Margaret Ellen Terry and they had a son Claudius Theodore Mehaffey (born in White Rock Tx.). Claudius Theodore later changed his name to Theodore Claude and went by the nickname T.C. Mehaffey. (however his son said most people just called him 'old man Mehaffey'). T.C. Mehaffey married Darcus Elizabeth Jackson. they had several children including Glen E. Mehaffey (My husband's wonderful grandfather)

Arby
James A Mahaffey, 1841-1915 married Sarah Durham about 1868. James was son of James Mahaffey, 1805 – 1840 + Ela Crawford, 1807 – 1884. James,SR died about four before James A was born in a part of Clay County that would become Owsley county in 1843. James A was the youngest of 11 children. My G G/M, Matilda Mahaffey was a sister born in 1830. Matilda married first, Phillip Rector about 1848, and after his death in 1860, she married Joseph Durham, my G G/F in Rockcastle County 1863. I believe Joseph Durham, 1818 – 1874 to be the younger brother of Hardin Durham
Gene Martin

John,

I have run across your Samuel years ago while researching my Mahaffeys. My family was in Fresno at the same time Samuel was. I have not been able to connect him to my family. Fresno was not a very big place. You would think there would have to be a connection.

As I look at the research that was given to me by others I wonder if he might be the last child of our family. Martin Mahaffey's children: John 1804 TN, William 1812 TN(married Mary Jane Therrell, Eleanor Ward, & possibly Mary Rhodes), Isaac 1817(married Lucinda Wright)TN, Ann (married Newton Gardner) abt 1817, Martin Crawford b1826 (married Mary Ann Holt & Betsy Jane Farnsworth), Lucinda Apr 29, 1828 (married Charles Pinkney Walker), Narcissa abt 1828 (married JWN Dickett), Jane 1836 TN (married Lowery).

I don't know, but it might be something to look into.

Attached are the 1920 images of Samuel and my family. Ada Reed is Martin's daughter.

I just noticed this post from awhile ago and hope you are still researching. I am interested in John Mahaffey who lived in Philadelphia, PA and was born around 1800. Can you tell me something about where/when the John A. Mahaffey you are looking into lived?

The Mahaffeys I am related to lived in Philadelphia from about 1800 but were born in PA; I don't know where. My ggg-grandfather was John Mahaffey who lived from about 1800-1850 in Phila. He and his wife, Sarah, had 7 or nine children: Edward, Sarah Ann, John, Lewis, william, George and there may have been 2 more. I am descended through Lewis. I can't find any info on any of these people (except for Lewis and John's wife, Sarah), beyond 1870. Do these names sound familiar to anyone?

I would love to know who John's father was. John was in the building trades.

Family lore says this is the Welsh branch.

I'm researching a John Milton Mahaffy (or Mahaffey - not sure of the correct spelling). He was born abt. 1880 in New York (according to the 1910 US Federal Census). Places of residence include, besides New York, Marengo, Iowa Co., Iowa; Marion, Linn Co., Iowa (where he was an assistant principal at the high school in Marion), Decorah, Iowa, and Manteno, Kankakee Co., Illinois where he was a pastor. He married Elizabeth "Bessie" Roberts (1885, Iowa - 1912, Iowa) in 1904 at Marengo, Iowa Co., Iowa. They had three girls: Elsie (b. 1905, m. [--?--] Wilson), Ruth Eileen (b. 1907-1910) and Martha Josephine (b. 1910). Any info appreciated.

Hello,

I am very interested in your book. I have been tracing my family history and have hit a brick wall. I am lucky enough to still carry the Mahaffey name. My grandparents: Amos Oran Mahaffey(1905-1998)/Frances, g-grandparents Albert Mahaffey(1859-1880)/Louella Rutherford, gg-grandparents Amos Mahaffey (1821-1867)/Sarah Harrison Richardson/,& ggg-grandparents William Mahaffey(1780 SC-1831 MS)/Mary Durden. Brick wall with William Mahaffey though have read in some family trees parents might have been Oliver Mahaffey/Lucy Tolbert. I believe I am either Irish or ScotsIrish and am trying to trace my family back to the UK.

Hi Sue - Would you like to talk on the phone? We could probably cover more ground that way. I know Samuel G. Mahaffey (b 1838) was from Sullivan County, Tennessee. A whole slew of people from that county then moved to Laclede, Dallas, and Polk Counties in Missouri, probably right after the Civil War. My GG Samuel Judson Mahaffey was born in 1861 but by 1880 (if not 1870) they were in Missouri.

I come from a very, very small family. My Grandfather Bert Mahaffey was an only child, as was my father, Fred Mahaffey, so there were no uncles, etc., for me to trace my Mahaffey roots. My GG Mahaffey is buried in Dallas Cty MO, but I never knew what happened to my GGG - until now. He moved to California with his daughter Clara. I would really enjoy learning more about my roots! I live near Chicago. How about you? -- John

He moved to CA from Missouri with his daughter Clara Mahaffey, who married a Sherrill, probably in Missouri?

My family tree on Ancestry is public. Take a look!
My GGG Samuel G. Mahaffey was widowed from Mary I. Smith and moved to California with his daughter Clara around 1900, who married Issac Sherrill. This explains why there are no obituaries, death, or cemetery records for Samuel G. in Missouri, where his son, Samuel Judson is buried. I am awaiting the obituary from the Fresno Library right now. I gotta believe its him. I have no Martin Mahaffey's in my lineage.

Samuel Judson Mahaffey was my GGrandfather. His father was Samuel G. Mahaffey. My family tree is public (Mahaffey-Turner-Woodfill-Upton Family Tree). Your question is a good one. I saw the three Smith names, but to be honest, I didn't put 2+2 together and realize they could be related to Mary, Samuel's wife. Sometimes the Census charts aren't terrible clear when then start a new household. Since they were not Mahaffeys I didn't add them to my family tree.

I would like YOUR help! Do you have any record of Mary Smith Mahaffey's death? It seems Samuel went to California with his daughter Clara and died there in 1921. But I can't find any records of Mary's whereabouts after 1870.

Thanks1

I believe this Samuel Mahaffey was also my g g grandfather. His son, James Marshall was my g grandfather.
The info I have includes a Clara, a grandson named Isaac Sherrill, and that Samuel moved to Fresno. The Mahaffeys in Fresno, however are not directly related to me.
I am interested in the Mahaffeys prior to moving to Missouri. I know they were in Tenn, possibly in Bristol, but that is where I get stuck. Is there any info pertaining to that time period? If there is, I would greatly appreciate it. My Dad did some research, and had obtained some photos, however I don't know how accurate all his info was. Thank you, Sue

Mahaffeys in Missouri

My gg grandfather was Samuel Mahaffey who moved from Tenn to Missouri. He was married to Mary and their children were: James Marshall(who was my ggrandfather), Samuel, Cora, Thomas, Ebert, John, and Leander. This was in the 1870 Missouri census. My ggrandfather James Marshall was married to Grace Lula (or Lula Grace) White. Their children were: Huber Ellis, Arthur Everett, Guilford Earl, James Raymond, Marie, and Claude.
Does anyone have info on any of these people? If there is any, I would greatly appreciate it.

John,
Yes, we could talk on the phone. I have some info on the Mahaffeys but not sure where or who it leads to. My great grandfather was James Marshall who was a brother of Samuel J. His son was Claude, who then had my Dad, who's name was also Claude. My Grandfather came from a family of 6 children. I live in Ohio near Dayton.
Sue
