I was wondering if anyone had any info on Lawrence Maher. He was married to Winifred Conroy and had a whole lot of kids. He is my grandfather but I never knew him and now cannot find anything out. Any help would be greatly appreciated since I am very new at this.

I have just become aware of your posting Patrick Maher had married Susan Neil on 23 Sep 1856 following his death which I have as (19 May 1858) Susan married a John Buchanan.

There are a lot of unanswered questions regarding Patrick's death and the second marriage.

If you can add any info that would be wonderful.

Alison Maher was married several times. Her only child was by her first husband. Husband was Stephen F G YONGE, son was Kenelm Yonge. At least one line of descendants now in Davis CA with surname Yonge. Both Fernando Maher and Jessie (Moffat) Maher are (per their daughter Alison aka Nellie) buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma, California. This suggests that they were living in San Francisco by the time Fernando died c. 1893.

i am the youngest son of Eugene Arthur Maher, he lived in vero beach florida untill his death .father of 4 ,bill mike luanne and paul ,there was a rumor thet he had one more child somewhere on the west coast,calif i think.
my name paul maher (nitemaher@yahoo.com) i think that somewhere i have a sister from another mother that i have had no luck in finding any information about.
i think that he repaired airplanes while he was in the service then moved to royal oak mich,where he fathered us four kids with pricalla (rusty) his wife my mother . he moved us to vero beach florida in 1963 .what i remember about the man is he was a gifted with the ability to repair anything and build things from scrach

I noticed your surname is Walsh. My husband's great-grandfather, Peter (sometimes called Patrick) Maher was married to a Catherine Walsh, in Co. Tipperary. They came to Mendon, St. Joseph County, Michigan, sometime in the early 1800's, I believe. Do either of these given names mean anything to you? I'd like to hear from you, if you have the slightest idea that they might be related to you.

my grandmother catherine maher was born in east st. louise,illinois, in 1873, she came to Ireland while still in her teens and completed her education at glasneven Dublin.
She married John Walsh 1871-1953 of smithstown co kilkenny.they had 6 children, the youngest Stephen was my father.
Catherine's father was from the maher family of Tipperary, his first name did start with the letter P.
Catherine's mother was from the Hawe family of Mullinavat co kilkenny.
I don't really know much more than this

, but im still working on that side of the family

Update from Timothy Maher - March 2008 - Found obit for Eliza nee Doyle, Maher wife of Timothy mother of five sons, James T. Maher of Brooklyn, John Maher (my gfather) of NJ, Peter, Patrick and William all resided at 616 Madison St., with mother Eliza, Syracuse NY. Eliza died April 9, 1909 in Syracuse at age 70 yrs, 3 mos, 15 days. Buried at St Agnes Cemetery services held at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. I know mum's family was from Tempelmore and my Nana's name was Elisabeth Gould and the year range you quote looks about right. WEST BRANCH, Iowa - Joseph Patrick Maher, 73, died Monday, February 23, 2009, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City due to complications from surgery.

Service at the St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church, West Branch. Burial will be held at the West Branch Cemetery.

Visitation at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home, West Branch.

‘Pat’ was born on March 17, 1935, near Cedar Bluff, the son of James R. and Martha Malake Maher. He married Leone 'Polly' Gruwell on August 31, 1963, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Tipton.

He was a graduate of Tipton High School in 1954.

He served with the United State Army Airborne from 1957-59 where he was stationed in Germany and Lebanon.

In his early years he had worked on the family farm, he later worked in commercial and residential construction and continued his career in construction/carpentry with the University of Iowa for 24 1/2 years retiring in 1998.

He was a member of St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church and the Carpenters Local Union in Iowa City.

He enjoyed the outdoors, metal detecting and most importantly his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Polly Maher of West Branch; three daughters, Teresa Kober and husband, Kris, Rhonda Shultz and husband, David, and Patricia Harpole and husband, Gene, all of West Branch; a son, Jeffrey Maher of West Branch; seven grandchildren, Joseph Maher, Max and Alice Kober, Brandon Shultz, Madison, Gabe and Katie Harpole; a brother, Donald Maher and wife, Jean, of Tipton; and a sister, Linda Paulson and husband, Dave, of Carroll.

Maxine D. Maher, 91, died Wednesday, Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at Bickford Cottage, Iowa City, where she had lived for more than five years. She had celebrated her 91st birthday one month previous.

The Rev. Dennis Martin will officiate. Burial will be at the West Branch Cemetery.

Mrs. Maher was born March 12, 1915, on a farm south of Cumberland, Iowa, the daughter of Roy Mills and Ora Hayes Mills. She married Jack P. Maher in 1936 in Atlantic. He preceded her in death.

She attended country school near Cumberland and business college in Corning, Iowa in the 1930s.

She and her husband had four children during and after World War II and settled in Atlantic, where he held positions in advertising with the Atlantic News-Telegraph and radio station KJAN and she trained as a tailor for Metcalf's Men's Wear. Her husband also worked as a postal employee.

She and her husband purchased the West Branch Times in the fall of 1959 and moved to West Branch just in time to open the new West Branch High School building on N. Oliphant Street. She and her husband were co-publishers of the West Branch Times. She was also the former mayor of West Branch.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Z. Maher of Ashland, Ore.; two sons, Daniel R. Maher of Glen Ellyn, Ill., and Tom Maher of Bethesda, Md.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her second son, Timothy M. Maher.

Im looking up my family of Mahers and I noticed that you had a post, its probably a very old post, you were mentioning the graveyard in Roscrea, and you mentioned Derrymore. I am not related to the Mahers of Upper Derrymore, Templemore Road, Roscrea, County Tipperary but a Patrick Maher died there a few years ago. I actually live in Lower Derrymore now, not far from Upper Derrymore, but I only moved here a few years ago.
My mother was a Maher from Cooleshill, Kings (Offaly).
