MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Mabel G. Mahler, 87, of Muscatine, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at Unity Hospital in Muscatine.

Services will be at the Geo M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home in Muscatine. The Rev. Leif Pohl will officiate. Pallbearers were Steve LaRue, Ed Downey, Ivan Day, Bill Stalkfleet, Mike Dillion and Lawrence Bednender. Honorary pallbearers were Vernon LaRue, Bill Downey, Edgar West, Richard Hidlebaugh and John Briggs. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Muscatine.

Mrs. Mahler was born on April 18, 1913, in Muscatine the daughter of George A. and Clara Schmitt Mentink. She married Arthur 'Ottie' Mahler Jan. 13, 1940, in Muscatine.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed fishing, playing cards and traveling. She worked at Rose's Style Shop.

Survivors include her sister, Hazel Gaidies of Muscatine; and special friends, Vernon and Merry Ann LaRue and their family, Melody, Steve, Tammy, Dawn, Shelley and Rylee; Bill and Lois Downey and their family, Ed, Sarah, Susy, Mike, Eric and Kierra; and two step-sisters, Lois Hines of Coralville and Mary Wagner of Muscatine.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, three sisters, two step-sisters, and her step-mother.

Rozena Mahler is my 3x gr-grandmother. She married Frederick Miller sometime before 1860, possibly in Illinois or Iowa. They had a daughter, Caroline Catherine, b. Sept. 5, 1860, who married John Theodore Rater Jr. abt. 1900 in Wapello Co., IA. I have nothing on Rozena or her husband Frederick and would love to find out any info possible.

Just came across your reply to my earlier posting. Many events intervened since then including the death of my wife of 53 years, also I'm a slow learner.

So I'm back on the hunt. Can't seem to find any connections on the Israeli web sites, although we have located cousins from my father's side.

I visited Dembica in November of 2007. Hardly anything left of the town my parents knew.

My maternal grand parents names were Israel Mahler and Rivke Grabschrift. My father's people were Jacob Taub and Miriam Schecter. Probably born about 1865.

I am doing research on Anna Mahler born Jan. 3,1868 in St. Louis MO to William Mahler and Sabina Behr for my niece who is her great-great grandaughter. I only have census reports and death certificates. Some of the family is buried at Bethania/Bethany Cemetery in St. Louis.

Do you have any information on Anna Mahler (my great grandmother)? I have been searching a number of databases, but haven't come up with much. I believe that she was born in Arad (now Romania) and came into Ellis Island as a small child in 1905. Her family (I don't know their names) settled in Chicago and are supposedly in close relation to Johnny (Janos) Weismueller

Sounds like your Mahlers are in line with mine. My great grandfather was Peter Mahler who had son John Francis, as well as others. Peter moved to Mass. and married Mary. John F. is my grandfather. If this sounds in line with your records let me know and we can exchange some records. John Henry
is listed in the family history I have collected.

(My) John Mahler arrived in Indiana app. 1832 and died in the 1840's...he was married to Maria G. They immigrated from Wuerttemberg via New London, Conn. That branch remains in north-central Indiana until this day.

Wonder if (your) John is related...I am in fairly early stages of research but will send you whatever I have if it will help.

Do you have any connection with a JOHN HENRY MAHLER, German immigrant, who arrived in US in 1842 under the age of 18 years? To the best of my knowledge he had sons, John Henry, William, Peter, Thomas Charles and a daughter, Mary, who married a Coleman. Son John Henry was born in 1861 and eventually ended up in New Orleans, LA.

Seltz was in Alsace and today is in Bas-Rhin region. About 30 miles north of Strasbourg.

Friedrich Mahler (Fred) was born November 30,1869/1870 census records are confusing at this point died 1947 in upstate NY.I believe,from family input, Hanover,Germany is the place of birth.He came over in 1893 married Erna Wendland 1879-1956 had children Henry1891-1982, and Emily 1896-1918 while in NYC. Then along the way they had Walter 1905-1981;George (still alive living in VA), Ray (still alive living in FLA), Matilda 1907-1993.

Thanks. I will have a look at this. The details of my ancestors are in Australia (I am in Tonga) so I will get them have a look at this website. I know that my ancestors came from Hanover, but not whether they came from the Lesum area but will try to find out and let you know.

I'm looking for relatives of Marie Mahler, born Marie Larkin in 1919 in Port Washington NY and who later lived in Woodmere, NY. She handled the final affairs of her uncle William Larkin when he died in 1957. I'm a relative of William Larkins wife Nellie who predeceased him in 1954. I too am working my Mahler tree in Alsace. I have traced back 10 generations in Schillersdorf (back to 1630). Schillersdorf is close to Mietesheim. My ancestor George Mahler (b. 2 Feb, 1719) married a Anna Maria Mahler, daughter of Ulrich Mahler (b. 3 Jun, 1693 in Mietesheim). Ulrich's father was Johann Mahler (b. 1642 in Schillersdorf and m. 27 Nov, 1666 to Anna Maria Schearer in Mietesheim).

I'll be happy to give you all that I have about our Boehme and Korte ancestors but I only have the American generations - I have not been able to make the connection back into Germany yet, but I'm working on it. I've made lots of progress on the European Mahlers - I have that part of the family back into the 1600's!

My Rouses are from Germany to Culpeper, Virginia (originally Essex>Spotsylvania>Orange>Culpeper>Madison). Johannes Rausch/Rouse arrived about 1710-1711.

John George Maier and Roscina "Rosa" Höpfner/Hoepfner came from Bavaria and Wurttemburg, respectively, to Saginaw, Michigan.

Actually, I believe we do have Mahlers from Alsace. My grandfather, Harry Alphonse Mahler was adopted by Herman Charles Westendorf when he married our great grandmother, Marie Madeline Braendly.

We know that Marie was from Alsace and we think she was first married to Hans Mahler - our grandfather's father. Does this maek any sense to you?

He was a sailor and they lived at various addresses in New York City during the period between 1805-1819. I know he died before 1821 when Eliza married Caleb Dana in the Mobile Alabama area. I am looking for any information on John Henry Mahler married to Eliza Sally Taylor at Trinity Church in New York April 6, 1805. He died sometime before 1821. He was a seaman. Eliza Sally Taylor moved to the Point Clear, AL area with their 3 boys and remarried Caleb Dana.The only other information I have is that they lived at several addresses in New York between 1805 and 1815, but they were not listed on the 1810 or 1820 census. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Henry C Mahler - looking for descendants

Henry Mahler was my great-great grandfather, originally from Germany (area unknown), arrived in Philadelphia in the mid 1880's. He was born circa 1862. He married Anna Fleischer, born circa 1871, and also originally from Germany. Looking for descendants from any of their 12 children: Anna, Louisa, Henry, Otto, Edna, Albert, Frank, Elmer, Ethel, Joseph, and Florence - I already know of the lineage through their son Carl- my great grandfather. I believe that a majority of them stayed in or near Philadelphia. Just trying to find extended family and see if they have any photos or stories to share. Thank you

Bill thanks for the information. I received the obit, and it gives all the children's names, confirming that Verena did marry George Beyer, and that Eleanor married a James Sullivan. At the time of Frank's death Ruth and Latonia were evidently unmarried. It also gives Frank's wife's maiden name as Sullivan, and that he is buried at Lakewood Park Cemetery. So I was able to fill many blanks. The search continues.
