Surnames: Mahoney, Leary, Herlehy
Is anyone researching the line of Jeremiah Mahoney and Mary Leary of Inchigeelagh Parish, Co. Cork? They were married in 1835 in Turnaspidogy, according to Inchigeeagh parish records, witnessed by James Mahoney and Cornelius Leary.
Jeremiah and Mary had children names James, Jude (Julia) and Cornelius, in parish records.
My Mahoney line is James Mahoney, who married Catherine Herlehy two years later in 1837, at Dirrineanig.
Since James is a relatively rare name for a Mahoney in Inchigeelagh Parish,(and Jeremiah is the most common name) I suspect that Jeremiah and James might be brothers. They both had children born in the same locations, and they both moved around a bit! (to the same places, but not at the same time!)
So, I am trying to find additional information that would prove or disprove my theory that they are brothers.
Baptismal witness surnames associated with Jeremiah Mahoney are: Leary, Cotter, Bradly, Murphy and Connor.
Baptismal witness surnames associated with my James Mahoney are: Herlehy, Lynch, Colman, Lehane and Lucey.
