In my ancestry research, this surname is the hardest for me to locate.
My grandmother (Mildred Mains) was born of a Cherokee Indian named Frank (or Arthur?) Mains and Grace D. Bayers. The family knows little else about Frank Mains. My grandmother was born in 1915 and was adopted by a Jobe family (my great-grandmother married a Jobe and my grandmother was raised as a Jobe). She spent her life in Indiana and Ohio. Other names she used: Mary Mildred Mains, Mildred Jobe, Mary Neukam.
If anything rings a bell with anyone about this Frank (or maybe Arthur?) Mains, a Cherokee, I'd be very interested.
