GEORGE MAKI
George Maki, 80, was born in Rock Lake, N.D., on June 28, 1928, to Wester and Hilma Maki. He passed away Dec. 13, 2008, in Victorville, Calif. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
George left North Dakota in 1947 to join the Army Air Corps and served during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a 28-year veteran of the Air Force, retiring in 1975 from George Air Force Base. He continued working as a truck driver for the next 25 years.
He was a 40-year resident of Victorville and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Victorville Elks Lodge 1877.
George is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Ann Maki , of Victorville ; daughters Suzanne Maki and Joanne Rand of Victorville; son Steve Maki of Topeka, Kan.; grandsons Stephen Rand and Michael Maki and granddaughter Jennifer Rand. He is also survived by sisters Thelma Johnson, Mavis Schmitz, Verna Mattson, Mary Ann Lusti and Helen Mattson, and brothers Elmer Koski, Harold Koski and Robert Koski, all of Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and five brothers.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at Victor Valley Mortuary Chapel, 15609 11th St. in Victorville.
