I am looking for my grandmother's brother John Maki, formerly Jaakko Mäkitalo and/ or his family. He was born in Kortesjärvi, Finland 1889 and emigrated to U.S. in 1907. He went to Providence, Rhode Island to a family called Siniluoto. Later, he lived in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1917, he was single at that time. After 1917, he had a wife and two daughters, their names are not known. He had a sister called Lempi (married Mattson), also living in Worcester,MA. They went to Soviet Union in 1920-1930's. As I haven't found any evidence about that they were killed there, it is possible that they returned to U.S. before WWII. Unfortunately, this is a very common name in U.S., but if you know something about these people, please send e-mail to marisme@netti.fi.

Matt J Maki, wife Lempi Maki, Hibbing, Minnesota (Finland)

Hello,
regards from Finland !

I'm looking for my late father's uncle Matti/Mattias Pikkumaki, he's from Kauhajoki in (Western) Finland, moved to USA in 1912-1913. Finnish Immigration Institute has many files for passports and passengers but none match fully with "our" Matti. Church records show he got passport in April-1912, hence I'm open for 1912-1913. It could have been a trip directly to US or via Canada at that time.

I haven't been too lucky in 1920 cencus. Matt was one of the most typical men names in Finland at that time, also Maki as Maki and shortened version. But I'm hoping 1930 census could be the right one like this:
- Minnesota, Saint Louis Co, Lavel Township:
- Matt Maki, head, 37 yrs (married at 25), immigr. 1913 (age ? immigr. year ?)
- Lembi Maki, wife, 31 yrs (married at 19), immigr. 1916 (could be Lempi ?)
- Florence, dau, 10 yrs, born in MN
- Beatrice, dau, 9 yrs, born in MN
- Herald, son, 5 yrs, born in MN (could be Harold ?)

- Death certificate from MN Dep of Health for Matt Maki shows:
-- Matt J. Maki (his father listed as Jacob Maki; matches, his father in Finland was Jaakko so he could have used Jacobson as Matt J.)
-- born Sep 25, 1891 matches ok
-- died July 31, 1967 in Hibbing, MN
-- spouse/informant Mrs Lempi Maki from Hibbing MN matches with Cencus
-- they lived in 1409 1/2 13th Ave. East, Hibbing
-- Burial: ZIM Cemetery
-- Funeral: Mesaba Funeral Chapel. Seems like that's nowadays Range Funeral Home

Always appreciate even tiny pcs of infrmation - genealogy is - after all - like an ever-ending puzzle.

br,
Paivi Luomaniemi
Salo, Finland
I'm looking for relatives of Otto and Emma Maki who lived in Wisconsin (Necedah, Juneau)atleast untill 1940 or so. They both come from Finland originally and immigrated in the beginning of 1900.

Emma had four children; John 1912, Hilda 1914, George 1915 and Robert 1918. I'm not sure if Otto was their father but in the 1930's cencus the childrens' last name was Maki too.

Emma was born 1884 in Finland as a daughter of Timo and Amanda Nuutilainen and Otto was born 1888 in Finland.

I believe Otto worked in the railroads but I'm not sure.

If you have information about these people, please contact me.

My great aunt Emma (Nuutilainen) was born in 1884 in Finland and moved to the States in 1902/1903. She got married once to a man whose last name was something like "Fri" and I think they had 4 children. I don't know what happened to the first huspand but she got married again to a man named "Maki" (Mäki).

I think she lived in Wisconsin or Michigan. She might have had more children with the second huspand...

If anyone knows anything about her or her relatives, please don't hesitate to reply.
