I saw your message from 7 years ago. I don't know if you are still looking. My father's family comes from the same area, and immigrated about the same time (several uncles together). Do you have any other information -- did he keep his Polish name and surname? In our family tree, there is an Edward Malakoff, who arrived in the US about 1921 and had a son, David, born around 1938. He was the son of David Malachowski.I don't know anything else. I don't know if this fits.

Mark, the parents of Franciszek,Anton, Anna, Michael (he is a new sibling....hadn't heard of him before), and Franciszka were Jan Franciszek Malachowski, listed as a cobbler in one of the baptismal records I saw, and Francis Gorski. The family was from the Pelplin area of Poland, south of present-day Gdansk. Other towns mentioned in their records are Rosental (just south of Pelplin) and Nowa Cerkiew (south west of Pelplin). My husband and I leave Sunday for a two week trip to Poland and plan to drive through the villages our ancestors came from in the 1870's. Hope to hear from you soon.
Hi Judith,
i was just reading through old posts , and found this one of yours. I was wondering if you have any info. on your GGF Franciszek Malachowski's siblings. I believe my GGF Anton Malachowski is your GGF Franciszek's brother, but i can't find any positive info to be sure. My GGF Anton had a sister Anna L. Krajnik -(Anna married Joseph Krajnik) and a brother Michael, Anna and Michael stayed in Buffalo. Anton moved with his wife Frances to Cleveland about 1891 with thier first child Felix. they had 10 children, my GF Henry was their youngest. Just wondering if you have a family connection with or info on Michael Malachowski and Anna Krajnik (that these may be your GGF's siblings)?.
thanks, from Cleveland
Mark M.

Thanks for the information, Joe. Pelplin, Poznan seems to come up in the Malachowski records and Nowa Cerkiew, south of present-day Gdansk, in the Krajnik records as ancestral villages. Have you done anything with DNA yet? It is easy to submit a sample through Family Tree DNA....costs about $100 for the basic test. As more and more folks send in their samples for analysis, I think we are going to get some really interesting and definitive connections. I will be in Buffalo June 9-13 for an Elderhostel program on Buffalo architecture and plan to huddle with some of my cousins there to see where we are in finding the answers to some of our family tree puzzles.
I would also be interested in comparing data. I was told some time ago that I didn't have any Malachowski relatives in the Buffalo area, but I am beginning to suspect that. I was recently reviewing the film for St Stans. and came across an entry for a baptismal of Stephen Malachowski (1881) who's parents were Wojciech and Maria (Gruczynski) Malachowski. The 1910 Census says they also had another son Jon (1887) and Eva (1893).

I have been able to trace my Malachowski line back to Slawno Parish in Poznan. I actually visited the parish in 2005. While indexing the marriage records, I came across a marriage between a Wojciech Malachowski and Marianna Kruczynski in 1879. I need to go back to see if I made a transciption error, but that is very close.

Joe Malachowski

I am going to the Buffalo Library to look up the film on St. Adalbert's Church and look at the city directories soon. I am finding a Frank M.in the Buffalo census. My connection is through my maternal grandmother's side. Katarzyna Malachowski-Polakiewicz who is buried in the St. Adalbert's cemetery here in Cheektowaga,NY.Her husband Stanley is there too. They both have a Rozewicz connection as well. Katarzyna's parents are listed on her death certificate as Martin and Kate, both born in Germany.

I would love to compare our data. I think we are related to half of the Polish population of Buffalo through our Malachowski-Krajnik ancestors! My husband is taking me to Poland for my 60th birthday gift this year and I am trying to learn as much as I can about the origins of the family. We have even had my uncle, Jim Malachowski (name changed to Mack about 1950) submit his DNA for testing and it was fascinating to find out the haplogroup goes back to the Kurgan culture, north of the Caspian and Black Seas in central Asia. Let's see how we can help each other! Warmly, Judi Marks

Update on email address is lca2112@adelphia.net. Still searching for Malachowski name from Buffalo, NY. Apparently Katarzyna's father's name was Martin Malachowski and Her mother's name was Kate, both born in Germany. Katarzyna died in 1910 of Gastritis(this runs in our family)She was 32 years old. Her husband Stanley Polakiewicz, went on to marry again(I believe) a lady named Laura and there were lots of kids but some could have been from Katarzyna. 7 kids to be exact, one was my grampa Joe Polakiewicz.

I was born Judith Lynn Malachowski in Buffalo in 1947. We have always heard that my great grandfather, Franiscek (Frank) Malachowski came from Poznan, Poland. He was born in 1860 in Poznan. Married Joanna Krajnik. They had ten children and one of those was my grandfather Maximillanus Malachowski (born 1888 in Buffalo, NY). Hope this helps.

Hello again Lisa:

I checked our Malakowsky family information, and we have an Albert Malakowsky who is a mystery, not Alfred. Sorry to give you false hope: however, we can trace our family back to a John (Johann) Malakowsky in Germany. In looking at your original posting, I see you refer to Alfred's father as John. The time is about right, as is the location of Alfred's birth. I am not sure how to prove this, but I believe your Alfred must be related to the rest of the Malakowskys in the United States. I'll let you know if I find any connections.

Malakowski-Malachowski

I am seeking connections back to Poland or Prussia between the Malakowski (Malakowsky) and Malachowski families. All of the Malakowski's in the United States are descended from a Carl Malakowski, born about 1817 near Breslau (now Wroclaw). Carl's widow came to the United States in 1878 with her children, who were all born in Prussia. I believe the Malachowski name was anglicized to Malakowski when the family came to the United States. I know it's a long shot, but somewhere in the past, I believe these families are connected. I have very complete information of Malakowskis in the United States, but very little of it connecting back to Europe.

Christine,
Here is what I know so far. My G-G Grandparents were Frank Malachowski and Veronica Dombrowski. Both born in Poland. I haven't gotten further back than that. Their children were: Mary Veronica (my grandmother, who married Alfred Parent), Francis, wife named Anne with kids Francis Jr., Debbie; Edmond, wife named Doris, no kids (Both still living in MA); Catherine husband (putnicki?); Alice married Ziegfried Pilch (still living in MA); and Henry. I don't know any of the children of Henry. I am also not sure if I got all of Francis's children. My father couldn't remember all his relatives! Some of these cousins could be part of your family. Aunt Alice said her Uncles were named Walter and Joe and two Aunts Mary(anne?) and Pauline. Maybe something connects! Any information is appreciated!
Thanks,
Michelle

Malachowski Name

Tammy, My grandfather's name was Joseph Polakiewicz and was from Buffalo. His mother's name was Katarzna Malachowski-Polakiewicz. She died in 1910 and I just found her marker. Her husband's name was Stanley and I know where he's buried also. It's possible that your father was a cousin to my grandfather. That would make your father a son to Katarzyna's brother, as your father carried the Malachowski name.

I found that there are very few Malachowski people to begin with and have been seaching the name at least 6 or 7 years now. My email is LCA2112@aol.com. The sisters and the brothers are the hardest to find records on, but we may have some similar information to share. Do you have other information on the name? Let's talk. Linda

My family is also from Buffalo. I recently found my GGF Andrzej's birth records (1869) in Poland. He was from Slawno (Gniezno), Poznan, Poland. I have been able to find a brother Joseph (1866) but unfortunately the film I have only goes back to 1866. I plan on pulling the next film over the next few weeks. His fathers name was Frank (Francisczek).

Was your GGF married in Buffalo or Poland? Mine was married at St Adelberts (Buffalo) in 1894.

Looking for a Texas connection. My GGF Andrzej came to Buffalo in 1893 and married Anna Drzewiecki. From the marriage record, it looks like he came from Slawno, Poland. Recently my father remembered that he occasionally visited a sister somewhere in Texas.
There are some Malachowskis(also spelled Malachowska) buried here in NY: John, Francis, Anna,Helen and a family in the census with Michael being the head of household. There are Malachowskis at Ellis Island and you might try looking for the nearest Catholic-Polish Church in the area. As immigrants, they stuck together. Mine were at St. Adalbert's. Search old Polish Cemeteries in the area they lived. Hope this helps. My Polish Ancestors also worked on the railroads. They also belonged to clubs. Good luck on your search.

My grandparents also settled in Springfield, Massachusetts. They were Antony and Marianna Malachowski. They had six children - Anna - Stanley (my father), Edward, Peter, Frances, and Barbara. Of these six, Peter, Frances and Barbara remain.

Do you know of a direct connection with my people? If so I have some information and perhaps we can put this together and both gain from it.

Either way, good luck in finding more about your family.
