Violet is not recorded as one of my Codicote Kinghams but did you know that there was a Kingham family living in Berkhampstead? I have had a quick look on Ancestry and wonder if this could be your Violet? Violet Jane Kingham Birth about Sept 1895 registered Berkhampstead She is the only Violet I can find on 1901 Census born about that time Violet J Kingham Birth:abt 1896 living Great Berkhampstead, Hertfordshire, England.

i am looking for any imformation on Violet Kinghan born about 1896 possibly in Ireland, she married unknown Stewart
and lived in Balleymena, Antrim area in the 1925/30s.
there were children born 1929 Frank and Stanley born 1936,
do these have any connection to your Kinghans?

Yes you are a very distant cousin. Actually many of the MALES families in Hertfordshire and Australia link back to John MAILES and Mary DEARMAN. It is not that unusual. I am not in Australia though. I am in the UK. One of my brothers lives in Australia though but he is not that interested in Family History.

Hi Gloria, Nice to hear from you. Yes, I guess we would be very distant cousins. Since Ann Males was the granddaughter of John Underwood and she is my 3rd great grandmother, John Underwood and Mary Dearman would be my 4th great grandparents as well. I made a mistake in my last posting in the number of greats. It is hard to keep track sometimes. I am descended from the Ilott side of the family and apparently most Ilotts came from Hertfordshire. It's great to know that I have relatives in New Zealand...it looks like a lovely part of the world. Dellas

Males/Larman or Lawman family in Pirton

I am trying to trace the family of Rachel Males who married James Lawman (could be Larman) who married in Pirton, Hertfordshire. The later went to India with the British Army. When James died Rachel and her two younger daughters Elizabeth and Clara returned to Pirton. The eldest daughter Sarah Ann married John Baines of Thorney, Peterborough (also British army)in India. I am looking for any descendents of this family or anyone who is related to either the Males or Lawman/Larman families.

My name is Gloria Schultz and I live in New Zealand. I have just looked at your tree and I think I am your cousin.
I am a direct descendant of John Males and Mary Dearman. Then through their son George who married Mary Dawson. Their son Samuel who married Sarah Hill. They had a son Charles who married Rhoda Weedon. These are my 3rd gt grandparents. From your website, I assume that you are in Australia, I would dearly love to hear from you as I am trying to trace current day relatives with a view to meeting them.

James was born in Codicote in 1875/6 and died in Borehamwood 1948, his father was Amos Males & mother Eliza Kingham. James & Fanny Elizabeth were married 6th Feb 1899 and their children were Ernest, Albert, William, Frank, Violet, Freddy?, Dorothy and Reuben. Would be interested in any more information on this Males and Kinghan line.

James Males birth was registered Dec 1875 Hitchin parents were Amos & Eliza Kingham who were married Hitchin Sept quarter 1873.

My wife is descended from Frederick Mahl's son Charles. We know F.M. was born in 1757, died 1838, buried on his farm, served in the Revolutionary War, was a sgt and scout. Also served on the Fair American. We do not know his parents. Do you happen to know Charles' wife Elizabeth's maiden name? Also, when and where Charles died?

Ann Males is my great great grandmother. Wiliam Ilott and Ann Males youngest child, Jacob Jesse Ilot (1822 - 1914) was my great grandfather. He and his wife Rose Was immigrated to Canada, first to Montreal than to British Columbia. My grandfather, Edward Thomas Ilott (1903 -1979) married Ida Ball and they had four children: Kenneth, Edward, Rosemary and Glenna. Rosemary is my mother. I am the oldest of three girls.

We must be cousins. How are you related to Ann and William? Do you live in Canada?

My great grandfather was Amos Males the son of John Males and Martha Gray, he was born 1833 in Welwyn Hertfordshire England, he migrated to Australia in 1851 at the age of 18. I am looking for any information on his family also it is said within the family that he migrated with two of his brothers but I have not found anything about them, any help would be great

you do not say which part of england your line comes from.

i have several "males" line , they seem to originate from the area called Surrey, but then my line goes into London and the surname disappaears through marriage.

what i have is Thomas Males b. about 1800 (believed in Surrey though could also be traced back to Mile End,London) marries Lydia about 1820, have two daughters - Mary Ann Males b.1826 in Surrey - then married in 1847 in london, and Lydia Males b. about 1828

this is slightly before the dates you have given but could there be a link ?

Depending on what geological areas you are researching, the guy most likely to help you would be Phil Males. He has been the man who has helped me with excerpts from his own research that has melded with my own.
The Males Family is quite extensive, so be prepared for a long journey!

The earliest Underwood Dearman I have found was baptised in Weston Colville, Cambs 1730-MAY-02, son of William and ?Elizabeth? I suspect that Mary Dearman Males' father Underwood was a brother to William, but I cannot prove it or go further till I get hold of the parish registers. Cheers, Thom

The name "Underwood" was taken on firstly by Underwood MALES born Cottered, Herts., 1748. It is suspected that he may have been named after Underwood DEARMAN born Weston Colville, Cambs., 1730. Underwood's MALES's mother was a DEARMAN. The "Underwood" could have been a surname taken on as a Christian name. There is precedent for this in the DEARMAN family. See Hertfordshire People No 34 Summer 1988 for more details in the short article by Alan DEARMAN on page 4.

Most of my data and family trees relate to the MALES surname in Hertfordshire although I do have some records relating to London and Overseas. Unfortunately the only information I can find relating to your query is about the birth of Mary Ann to Thomas and Lidia in 1826 in Mile End, Middlesex. This was in the 1984 IGI. But you already know this.There is also a Michael MALES in the 1881 census aged about 50 with birth place given as Mile End. Possibly could be a relation of Thomas's family but hard to tell with so many years in between.
