Just began searching family geneology, but I do not have a lot to go with on my fathers side. His name was Roger Benton Mangrum born from what I know in the 1950's in Harland County Kentucky. I also believe his parents names were Zelma Estes and Louis Mangrum. Louis left when my father was born. So I know very little about him and have been unable to track him down. My best guess is he probrably would have been born in the 1920's or 30's. I have a picture if that would help.

I have a great grand-uncle Willie Thomas Mangum/Mangrum, born 1845 in TN. (He is brother to my great grandfather James George 'Jim' Mangum, married to Rebecca Catherine Riddle)

Willie Thomas married #1 Sarah R Haynes 25 July 1864 in Coffee Co., TN. They had two children - William F Mangum, born about 1865 in Franklin Co TN and Mary Elizbeth 'Molly' Mangum born 4/9/1867 in Williamson Co TN.

I think the W. F. Mangum in the following 1891 Voters list is the William F born to Willie Thomas Mangum and Sarah R Haynes (same area and same age)
Tennessee Census, 1810-91 about W. F. Mangum
Name: W. F. Mangum (Age 27)
State: TN
County: Franklin County
Township: Dist. 7 -Male Voters-
Page: 027
Database: TN 1891 Voters List

Willie Thomas married #2 Melinda 'Milly' Riddle 23 Jan 1869 in Lincoln Co TN. They had John Henry Mangum, born 1/16/1870. John Henry married Eliza Ann Crick, daughter of
James Knox Polk Crick and America L Lamb.

Sarah Haynes is the daughter of Samuel W. Haynes, b. NC, and Elizabeth Riddle, B. TN. They lived in Lincoln Co TN prior to 1850. On 1850 Census, they were living in Franklin Co TN

Malinda Riddle is my great grand-aunt - sister to Rebecca Catherine Riddle and to Elizabeth Riddle

Another twist- my Grandmother Sarah Lucinda Mangum (daughter of James George and Rebecca Catherine Mangum) married George Frank Haynes, son of George Alex Haynes and grandson of Samuel W. Haynes and Elizabeth Riddle.

I would like to receive and share any information about any of the above individuals and their ancestry, siblings, and descendants. I thought this post would show paragraphs - if not, it will be hard to read.

LaVerne

I found evidence that shows that my Allen Mangum/Mangrum was the brother of Pleasant Mangum/Mangrum. According to what I've found, Allen Mangum's parents were James Mangrum and Susannah Harris. They had several children: Rhese E. Mangrum b. abt 1795, Pleasant Mangrum b. 1796 in Warren Co., NC, Joseph Mangrum b. 1797, Henry Mangrum b.1799, Allen Mangrum b. between 1800 and 1810, and Plummer T. Mangrum b. 1805 in Warren Co., NC.
I am still researching this information, however. What I do know for certain is that an Allen Mangum/Mangrum married Winnefred Thomas in 1835 in Granville, NC. They had several children: A. Tennessee Mangum/Mangrum b. in TN, Mary S. (believed to be Soloman) b. in TN, Margrett Mangrum b. TN, and Julia V. Mangum/Mangrum b. 1851 in TX.
Julia Vincent Mangum/Mangrum married William Coleman KELLY. They had several children: Benjamin McGregor (Bud) Kelly b. 23 Feb 1870 in TX, William Allen Kelly b. 1877 in TX, John Oliver Kelly b. 25 July 1883 in TX, Maggie Kelly b. 6 Feb 1885 in TX,Floyd Durham Kelly b. 5 Sep 1890 in TX (my line), Mary Kelly b. 1892 in TX, Bid Kelly b. 1894 in TX, Winnifred Kelly b. 1896 in TX, and Wylie Kelly b. in TX year unknown.
I am descended from Floyd D. Kelly and Sebra Leoria Pearl Brummett.

Linda Davis (Tazmnangl@aol.com)

Della Mangrum is giving me fits. According to the Choctaw marriage rolls there was a marriage of Della Mangrum in 1900 to Millard Johnson (my grandfather). 6 Miles down the road in 1902 a Della Mangrum marries Thomas Florence. Given both Dellas had a handful of kids it seems unlikely that one woman was married to both men.

I've linked some public trees to mine that contain Della Mangrum but at this point I have no clue if its the right Mangrum. Most everything has her death in Muskogee in 1968. I can't find burial or obituary information to determine the last name at death so yet another dead end. No pun intended.

Any ideas?

Do you have any information on Sarah Mangrum. born c1808 in Tenn.? She married John York around 1825. They live in Illinois and had five children while there. They moved to Arkansas and had five more children. They then moved to Navarro, Texas and died there. She was my ggggrandmother. I wonder if her father might be a Henry Mangrum. She and John named their first child William Henry York and we know his father was William York. I am not sure of the spelling of Mangrum. My greatgrandmother told me her name was Sarah Mangrum. I didn't think to ask how it was spelled. I am the last of my generation so there is no family member to ask. I will appreciate any help you can give.

Kathleen
kcovhornb@cs.com

She married John York, had five children while living in Ilinois. They moved to Hempstead Co., Ark and had five more children. Then they moved to Navarro Co., Tx. I don't have a clue as to who her parents were. They named their first son William Henry York.

Hello, Kathleen,
Wish I could be of assistance, but it sounds like we are two different family lines. Our branch used the Mangrem spelling---although Mangrum is much more common, and some of our Tennessee cousins keep that spelling.
My ggrandfather George Mangrem, along with his brother William, came to central Texas about 1875. He made his living with a wagun loaded with grocery-store items, which he moved from town to town. He married 3 times and had 9 or 10 children, 5 of whom outlived him.
George's second daughter (by his second wife, Annie D. Covington) was my maternal grandmother, Frances Emma Mangrem, born in Mullen, Texas. She and her elder brother Ernest, went to live with George's brother William and his wife LuLu (known as Uncle Billy and Aunt Lu) after George died, and the 3rd wife could not take care of them. Emma was in William's home at Copperas Cove, Texas until approximately 1906, when she started studying at Howard Payne College in Brownwood, Texas, eventually becoming a school teacher.
Wish I could tell you more about your Mangrum history. Always, Elizabeth

Re: G.B. Mangum - 1860 Census - AKA: Green B Mangrum - 1850, Greenbery Mangrum - 1870

Sorry - I don't know how or if your Green Anderson Mangrum is related to my Green Berry Mangrum, however, if your Green A is son of James and Anna Mangum then it is possible that James and Green B could be brothers since they are about the same age. You don't mention finding Green A in any census but 1900, where he indicates born in TN abt 1848, father born in TN, mother born in TN and wife Tobitha, however I think I found him in following census records:

1880 census he appears as Green A Mangum, husband of Tobitha J Mangum. He was born in TN abt 1851, his father born in TN, his mother born in NC

In 1870 census he appears as Green Mangrum, son of James and Anna Mangrum. Green born in TN abt 1849, James born in TN abt 1815, Anna born in TN abt 1820

In 1860 census he appears as Anderson Mangrum, son of James Mangrum and Anna Mangrum. He is only 8 yrs old born in TN about 1851. James born in TN abt 1807, Anna born in NC abt 1814.

The pattern here - no one overly concerned about age or place of birth.

Per 1860 census, he would not and did not appear in 1850 census with parents and other siblings under father Jas Mangrum born in TN abt 1809 and Anna born in NC abt 1816.

Hope this is helpful

I believe that I have talked to your dad on the telephone before? If he is the same Jim MANGRUM for McCool MS? I am also working on my family genealogy and for some reason my Uncle Lawrence and Aunt Rosie MANGRUM new your dad and mom. So, I called my Uncle Lawrence and got his phone number. We must have talked for 2 or 3 hours. My grandfather was Charlie Wyman MANGRUM. He was born in Center MS. His father was James(Jim) Monroe MANGRUM. James(Jim) had brothers name Perry and Bunk. I would love to see the bible that your dad was talking about that belong to James (Jim) MANGRUM. I have been told that he was a very smart business man. My Great Uncle Sidney Greene MANGRUM, kepted a notebook on the MANGRUMS. I do not have a copy of it yet, but I have been in contact with his daughter and she is trying to locate it for me. I have been told by a lot of elders from Caraway AR, that he carried that notebook everywhere he went. I have a fantastic article about him that was in our local newspaper back in the 70's. If you think this is the same line of MANGRUMS, please contact me and I will send you what I have. I also have an obituary for Otis Samuel MANGRUM that was married to a Dora. I believe they lived around Corning AR. I have heard my mom talk about "Uncle Bunk". I am in search of some one that might have known or has heard about James Harmon MANGRUM. Harmon ws the son of James (Jim) Monroe MANGRUM. He was married to Katie or Kat ELDER. They lived in Caraway, Craighead County, Arkansas, for some time and then moved. I cannot find anything on him. Do you know anything about him?

Why do you believe James Mangum and Susanna Harris are parents of Allen Mangrum who married in Granville County? I am quite interested in the Warren family as it may relate to the origin of my Pleasant Mangum, who also married in Granville County. James and Susanna married in Warren Co., N.C. and he (James) is likely son of Joseph Mangum of Warren (who witnessed the bond). The entire family in Warren moved west after 1822. A James appears in Iredell Co., N.C. in 1810 and I have always suspected ths was the James who married Susanna Harris in Warren, perhaps a forerunner to the westward migration of the family who went on to Tennessee as Mangrums.

I am a great,great-granddaughter of John Joseph Mangrum and Laura Jane Page.
My great-grandmother was Buna Mariah Mangrum, one of their older daughters. They did indeed settle in Texas coming from Ok and some into Ark. I do have some info on them. According to some entries in a family Bible, which I do not have, (my grandmother saw this and recorded it for us) John Joseph Jr's father and grandfather were Native American... I believe the elder being full blood and John Joseph Sr being 3/4. I do not have proof of this....other than these Bible recordings. They were originally from Indiana. I am unsure of the tribe...not all on the Trail Of Tears were Cherokee.
I do have a list of their children and a picture of John Joseph Jr. in a Shelby County history book. He later remarried after Laura's death and had 4 more children. I have this info as well.
I cannot seem to get back any farther on the Mangrums and very little on the mothers of this line...but would love to share with any of you that may have any info.
Please conatact me at dyoung71@hotmail.com.
Thanks,
Debbie
