Hi Munleys, Manleys, Monnellys, Munnellys, Monleys, and all other similar names,
There is a new Surname Project for those of you with an interest in having your DNA tested, and for those of you who have already done so.
The Munley/Manley Surname Project will be exploring the origins of all variations of Munnelly, Manley, Munley, Monley, Manly, Mannelly, Monnelly, O' Maonaile, O'Manlie, O'Maonghaile, etc. with origins in both Ireland and England, and elsewhere.
Some of the key benefits of this new surname project will be:
more timely analysis of your results and matches,
better communication with you about the project, your results and matches, and the other members, and
clear explanations of what your results mean to you.
I also plan to do some additional analysis on all the Group's y-DNA and mtDNA results as soon as more of the Manley Surname Project members join the new project. I think we can now split several of the Groups into sub-groups. The members in each sub-group will be more closely related to each other than to the previous group as a whole.
If you are already a member of the Manley Surname Project, you may join this Surname Project as well, and I encourage you to do so. See below for directions on how to do this.
One of the exciting things that's new is that females and those of you who are not straight-line males of the surname, can now also benefit from having your own DNA tested.
Family Tree DNA ( www.familytreedna.com
) now has a new test called "Family Finder" that can test short segments or blocks of both y-DNA and/or mtDNA (autosomal DNA) and compare those segments with others who have the same short segments or blocks. Both men and women will find matches with relatives using these autosomal DNA tests. This allows you to find relatives up to fifth cousins whether they are male or female. You will be able to make connections with those who are descended from all 16 of your great-grandparents. More information is available here for the technically inclined: https://www.familytreedna.com/faq/answers/default.aspx?faqid...
For those of you that have been putting off getting tested for whatever reason, traditional y-DNA and mtDNA testing is still available, with discounted pricing for joining the new project.
The 37-marker y-DNA test is $149.00 when you join the Munley/Manley Surname Project. This test is still the best way for straight-line males of the surname to find their closest ancestors. I do not recommend testing less than 37-markers, as you may have thousands of matches with people to whom you may not necessarily be related.
The 67-marker y-DNA test is $239.00 when you join the Munley/Manley Surname Project. As you know, the more markers tested, the better chance of determining a close match.
You may also order upgrades to previous tests. If you have not tested for at least 37-markers, this is strongly recommended.
Family Tree DNA is dedicated to supporting this effort.
From July 8th through July 19th, we will reduce all our Y-DNA upgrade prices.

You have to login to your profile page at www.familytreedna.com
. Your kit number is your user id.
Look at the top left hand side where it says "Join Projects".
Click on the "Join Projects" box.
One of the projects displayed should say "Munley/Manley". Click on that and then click on the "Join" button on the bottom of the page displayed.
