I fear you're no longer with ancestry, but just in case you are.....Your Lebbeus Manley goes back through his mother, Azuba Hurd's line to Stephen Hopkins and Thomas Rogers who arrived in this country on the Mayflower.

Hope you get this!

Munley / Manley Surname Project

Family Tree DNA has announced their Holiday Sale on several DNA tests. I am recommending that any Manly male who wants to help all Munleys, Munnellys, Manleys, etc. find their Irish relatives and make connections to specific locations, take the y-DNA 37 marker test. It is on sale for $119.00 US or about 94 euros starting now and ending at midnight CST on December 31, 2012. See
http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Munley

These tests are designed strictly for genealogy. They cannot be used in court to determine paternity or for most other purposes.

All you have to do is scrape the inside of your cheek for several seconds and return the kit to the lab. We would, of course, like to have information that you know about your own ancestry to use in comparing your test results to other Munleys, Munnellys, Manleys, etc. whose results match yours (indicating you share a common ancestor).

You might also consider giving someone a test kit for a holiday gift ;-)

The Munley / Manley Surname Project is here:
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Munley/

Contact me if you want more information.

Marianne Manley Granoff

Volunteer Project Administrator
Munley/Manley Surname Project
granoff@zianet.com

My grandmother's parents were Henrietta and John Manley from Colbert County, AL. My great grandmother was a Rogers before she married John Manley. She had a sister named Lena. My grandmother married Thomas Cornelison and my father was their only son and his name was Thomas Allen. My aunts names from their marriage were Almedia, Mary, Margarette and Lottie. Names seem similiar, what do you think?

New Munley/Manley Surname DNA Project

Hi Munleys, Manleys, Monnellys, Munnellys, Monleys, and all other similar names,

There is a new Surname Project for those of you with an interest in having your DNA tested, and for those of you who have already done so.

The Munley/Manley Surname Project will be exploring the origins of all variations of Munnelly, Manley, Munley, Monley, Manly, Mannelly, Monnelly, O' Maonaile, O'Manlie, O'Maonghaile, etc. with origins in both Ireland and England, and elsewhere.

Some of the key benefits of this new surname project will be:
more timely analysis of your results and matches,
better communication with you about the project, your results and matches, and the other members, and
clear explanations of what your results mean to you.

I also plan to do some additional analysis on all the Group's y-DNA and mtDNA results as soon as more of the Manley Surname Project members join the new project. I think we can now split several of the Groups into sub-groups. The members in each sub-group will be more closely related to each other than to the previous group as a whole.

If you are already a member of the Manley Surname Project, you may join this Surname Project as well, and I encourage you to do so. See below for directions on how to do this.

One of the exciting things that's new is that females and those of you who are not straight-line males of the surname, can now also benefit from having your own DNA tested.

Family Tree DNA ( www.familytreedna.com) now has a new test called "Family Finder" that can test short segments or blocks of both y-DNA and/or mtDNA (autosomal DNA) and compare those segments with others who have the same short segments or blocks. Both men and women will find matches with relatives using these autosomal DNA tests. This allows you to find relatives up to fifth cousins whether they are male or female. You will be able to make connections with those who are descended from all 16 of your great-grandparents. More information is available here for the technically inclined: https://www.familytreedna.com/faq/answers/default.aspx?faqid...

For those of you that have been putting off getting tested for whatever reason, traditional y-DNA and mtDNA testing is still available, with discounted pricing for joining the new project.

The 37-marker y-DNA test is $149.00 when you join the Munley/Manley Surname Project. This test is still the best way for straight-line males of the surname to find their closest ancestors. I do not recommend testing less than 37-markers, as you may have thousands of matches with people to whom you may not necessarily be related.

The 67-marker y-DNA test is $239.00 when you join the Munley/Manley Surname Project. As you know, the more markers tested, the better chance of determining a close match.

You may also order upgrades to previous tests. If you have not tested for at least 37-markers, this is strongly recommended.

Family Tree DNA is dedicated to supporting this effort.

From July 8th through July 19th, we will reduce all our Y-DNA upgrade prices.

From - To Normal SALE
# markers Rates Prices
Y12-25 $ 49.00 $ 35.00
Y12-37 $ 99.00 $ 69.00
Y12-67 $189.00 $149.00
Y25-37 $ 49.00 $ 35.00
Y25-67 $148.00 $109.00
Y37-67 $ 99.00 $ 79.00

To order this special offer, you must log in to your personal profile page and click on the special offers link in the left hand navigation bar. A link to the login page is provided below. ALL ORDERS MUST BE PLACED AND PAID FOR BY MIDNIGHT JULY 19th TO RECEIVE THE SALE PRICE.

www.familytreedna.com/login.aspx

If you are already a member of the Manley Surname Project, you may join the Munley/Manley Surname Project as well. This will not affect your membership in the Manley Surname project. You will just be a member of both projects.

To join the Munley/Manley Surname Project:
******************************************

You have to login to your profile page at www.familytreedna.com . Your kit number is your user id.

Look at the top left hand side where it says "Join Projects".

Click on the "Join Projects" box.

One of the projects displayed should say "Munley/Manley". Click on that and then click on the "Join" button on the bottom of the page displayed.

******************************************

Again, this will not affect your membership in the Manley Surname project. You will just be a member of both projects.

Thank you for your help and support.

Warm regards,

Marianne Manley Granoff
Project Administrator Munley/Munley Surname Project
Albuquerque, NM
granoff@zianet.com

LaDonna,

Your grandmother was also my grandmother. Her name was Ruth Agnes Manley (sp?) and I adored her. My mom was your dad's sister, given name of Ruth Jeanne Hamblin, but always went by Jeanne. Grandmother's siblings included Leonard Manley, from Portland, OR, and Elsie Irwin. Elsie lived in Boise, ID when she passed away. I can't remember her husband's name just now but will be able to find it.

I was sorry to hear about your dad. Is your mom still living? What about Dennis? What was your other brothers name? Was it Dale?

Would love to hear from you. I have a little bit of info on the family but not too much. I have a darling picture of you at a family reunion at my folks house in Nampa. You were very young, maybe just in school.

Beverly Hayes Howard

I am researching that line: William Perry Manly > Garlington Manly > William Manly > John Manly, I am descended from William's bro John Manly (as you no doubt know, it was around the time of William Perry that the 'e' was introduced > Manley). I'm not sure I'd be much help with the photo, but will take you up on your offer for a copy if it still stands. For more info on this line, see the posted family trees named WilliamManly and Lorne's Family. Regards, MEM

I'm looking for the parents of David Pencey Manley and Letha (Candacy) Manley from Big Shanty,Cobb Co,GA. (census of 1850 and 1860) I believe DP served in the Army of the Confederacy. Their children were Frances, Martha, Burnetta, Clark, Georgetha, (W H, & Malissa twins), Nancy, Joseph, James. Some of the children later moved to Missouri and Oklahoma. Letha Candacy may have been of Native American descent. Both DP and Letha disappear after 1862 so if anyone has information on their deaths, burial that would also be appreciated.
William Perry MANLY, Vermillion Co. IN

In May 2004, I posted the following message: "William Perry MANLY was born 15 Jan 1844, Vermillion Co. IN, d. 8 Jan 1921, San Jose, CA. I have a picture of him (I think) with his 3rd wife, Luella Marie (NOBLE) PETERSON, who he married Sep 1897, Fresno Co. CA. I want to contact someone researching the family who would like to see this picture (by email) and confirm the identification. My husband descends from Luella and her 1st husband, Reuben Henry PETERSON."
Soon after, I moved 3 times and had a serious auto accident, so I failed to get the responses. If anyone still wants an email of the picture and a Sept. 1897 Fresno newspaper clipping about the wedding, please contact me. This would include Paul Manly, Eddie Manly and Sara (Manly) Taylor.
Kay Pacheco
ppacheco@tx.rr.com
Miss Georgia Manly (married 1880) Mr A S Barbour

Married

October 14, 1880, at the residence of the bride’s aunt, Mrs. Mary beard, of Hutchinson, by Rev. E. B. Tucker, Mr. A. S. Barbour, of Grant township, and Miss Georgia Manly, of this city. Both bride and groom are among the best esteemed of our young people, and are fit companions one to the other in all those qualities which should render a union happy and prosperous. While the ceremony was not attended by but few they have many friends who congratulate them upon this important event. The very elements appeared to give good omen for it was one of the most beautiful of our splendid Kansas evenings, where the whole face of nature is enlivened by the fresh springing verdure succeeding a recent refreshing shower. We bid them good speed in there journey of life and may the richest blessings, both spiritual and temporal, be vouchsafed to them, and may they know as little as may be of the trials, sorrows and tribulations which beset the human pathway.

The Nickerson Argosy
Nickerson, Reno County, Kansas
Wednesday, October 20, 1880
page – 3 *** column – 4
I am the ggggson of James Manly (b.1783 USA, d.1858 USA) and Charity Wolf thru John Eliot Manly> Hinton Benjamin Manly> Josephine Pauline Manly Myatt> and Leon Lewis Myatt. I am told that my James Manly came from Isle of Wight, VA. but I have no proof of that. His son, John Eliot Manly, was born 15 Jan 1818 in North Carolina and died 12 Dec 1896 in Texas which leads me to believe that your James and Charity are the same as mine. I have a significant amount of data on my Manly ancestors from James forward but have very little information on him. Do you have any additional information and, if so, would you be willing to share it. I will be more than happy to share anything in my family tree and would sincerely appreciate any information I can get.
With warmest personal regards,
Ron Myatt

W. E. Manley & Zane Crunk of Alabama

I am looking for more information on William E. MANDLEY(also spelled MANDLY, MANLEY, and MANLY) who born about 1839 in Alabama. He may have been the same William E. MANDLEY (various spellings again) who served as a 2nd Lt with the 27th Regiment, Alabama Infantry, Company D, during the Civil War.

In 1880, W. E. MANLEY (he'd dropped the 'd' at this point) was living in Florence, Alabama and working as a watchman at a mill because he'd lost an arm during the war. His parents birthplaces are both listed as Virginia.

He married Zane (also Zona and Jane) CRUNK, and they had 5 children, John (b. 1869), Mark (b. 1874), Minnie (b. 1877), Maud (b. 1879), and Margaret (1884-1946).

Any help tracking down information about the MANDLEY/MANLEY family, greatly appreciated.

Lewis Hamblin was my mother's uncle, I have the obituary of Ruth, give me an e-mail address and I will try and send you a copy. Do you know where Alsen Haynes Hamblin is buried, we thought Santa Clara, but have spent the past week in St. George, Beaver and etc. and couldn't find his grave. We find Isaiah's and Ann Richards but not Alsen's.
Patsy Bybee, Malad, Idaho
patsy@atcnet.net

Paul
If you have received a pic, I too would like one. I just answered Sara and Kay .. had not looked at the threads that you all had already written. There is a long paper in the library in Wichita about William Perry, written by one of his children. Garlington died in Meriden KS, so there is a lot of research to be accomplished in KS. Lots of mistakes and I have written a 'supplement' to it, to correct the author's mistakes and add to that paper.
I've lost contact with Charles and Gary Manly ... Garlingtons descends ... do you have any contact with them?
Eddie

Kay ...
William Perry Manly (1844-1921) ... his parents are Garlington [1814-1890] & Rachel (Carmack) Manly and my GGrandfather was Garlington's brother [Edmund - 1818 to 1899] . We have had contact with a couple of cousins who descend from this line (Garlington), but I do not have contact with them at this time [they have moved and not left me a forwarding address]. Another cousin, Paul Manly, descends from a third brother, [William, Jr - 1822-1888]. I do have contact with Paul and his family.
All of this family descends from William (Sr) [1790-1842] and Elizabeth Nickels of Newport [Vermillion] IN.
Let me know if you need further. Thanks
Eddie Manley

Re: William C Manley or Manly

Hi.
Did you ever find William C Manley? I've just come across this surname today in my family tree. Did he have a daughter named Delphia Emmiline? I think she is the Mother of my William Bell, but her death date and the census' dont add up. I have found where Delphia and Anderson Bell have married, but Anderson has a different wife in the 1860 census where William is 1 yr old. I have more ideas on "what could be" but it doesn't quite add up. Please contact me if you have these names. Thanks, Melanie

Re: Children of George Manly in Hummelstown, Pa

I did a search in the 1850's census in Penn for this family and found them. George, who would have been aged 7, was not there. The age i have for our George was from a birth record in Hummelstown as well as his baptism record.
That he isn't in the census record in 1850 makes me wonder if he died in childhood. Unfortunately i know his mother died between 1850 and 1851, so no way of finding out how many of her children lived or died. She was born in Penn as well.
I can find the the siblings and rest of the family in Iowa by 1860.
Thinking we don't have a connection. Sorry.
