Re: Swedish Manson/Månsson

I am not sure if we are connected at all, but I thought I would see if the limited information I have connects at all.

My branch of the Manson family was brought to the US from Sweden in 1884 by Olaf "Ola" Christian Manson "MÅNSSON b.15 Feb 1852, Jämshög (Blekinge) Gurnsey, Sweden. He was married to Christina Håkansdotter b.19 Apr 1859,
Almundsryd, Kronoberg, Gurnsey, Sweden

Olaf's parents were Måns Nilsson b.6 Nov 1809, Jämshög (Blekinge) Sweden and Eva Johansdotter b.7 May 1815, Almundsryd.

Unfortunately this is the last information I have connecting my family to Sweden. Older living members of my family claim that the family has connection to Norway, but I have not found any information to support this. Any ideas?

Thank you,

Mike

Hello,

I am not sure if your Thomas is the same as my Tom, but it is possible, he is the only Tom/Thomas linked to my Tree, but I have very little information at this time. I do have some research provided to me by members of my extended family that I have not been through yet, but there may be something there on your line of the family.

The only information I have on Tom Manson loaded so far is that his parents were: Kenneth and Betty Manson, Kenneth b. 1928. Kenneth's parents were: Elmer Manson and Emina Swanson.

If this matches the information you have, I have a large amount of information on the family here in the states, but have only begun to recieve information about the family's origins in Europe.

Let me know if this helps.

Mike

I have Jane Manson b 19 Feb 1798 to William Manson and wife Mary Ann.....(Jane's dates are from a bible page submitted for a Rev War Widows pension file from NARA). I have very little more about her or any of the other daughters of this family.

William came to US from Scotland in 1775 on ship Marlborough into Savannah with wife Elizabeth (who died shortly after arriving). He immediatly joined the South Carolina Militia and moved to several postings as a private. His letter indicates he lived in North Carolina, Kentucky, south Carolina and Alabama before settling in Jefferson County Tennessee.

I am a descendent of William's and am very interested in sharing any information about this family.

Manson, John: Edinburgh,Leith; <1790-1825?

Looking for a MANSON family of South Leith from about 1814 to 1896. John and Margaret Manson's son John (b.1803 Edinburgh) married Mary GARROT in South Leith in 1826 (Relief Church). John (Jr.) was a ship's blockmaker who has been found on the 1861 census living at Sheriff Brae. The General Index of Deaths in Scotland was searched between 1861 and up to 1905 with no success in locating a death certificate (probably died 'without' Scotland).

John's son Robert (b.c. 1835) was found living at Sheriff Brae on the 1881 and 1891 census. Robert died in 1896 at the same address.

Robert's sister Margaret (b.1831 So. Leith) married first to a John Morrison, and then (2) to George RAMSAY in So. Leith in 1874. She and her family were found on the 1881, 1891, and 1901 census living at 11 Cables Wynd in South Leith.

Any help with finding information re John (Jr.) Manson's death would be greatly appreciated. As well, any information about Sheriff Brae or Cables Wynd would also be welcome. Thank you.
My great grandmother was Barbara Manson who was born St.Andrews. Orkney Scotland around 1862. Her husband was David Manson. She had three brothers, James Manson 1863 Kirkwall Orkney
David G Manson 1873 Kirkwall Okney (my grandfather)
John F Manson 1875 Kikwall Orkney
Elizabeth C Manson 1867 Kirkwall Orkney.
My mother was also Barbara Corigall Manson. She was born in Dundee as I was.
Apparently the family moved to Dundee when the children were very young. I knew Elizabeth, but I have no idea what happened to the other two boys.
Thanks for the info Lyall. Could you tell me your source for this please? Are you from the Mansonville area? How might you be related to Rev.Charles? With so many children, I count 27, between the three brothers, William, James and Robert, there must be a lot of Mansons out there. Do you have any other information you are willing to share or compare? I am particularily interested in why the Manson family moved from NY to Canada. Was it just more land available or were they Loyalists during/after the Revolutionary War? Do you know what port they entered North America from? Was there family left behind in Scotland? I know too many questions. Thanks again, Marsha

Re: Mansons of Kirkcudbrightshire Scotland and Ontario Canada

David,
I am interested in any information that you may have come across on William Manson. I came across another post that lists William and James as brothers to the David that you are descended. In addition, there was another post that indicated that James and William migrated to Wisconsin after leaving Huron Co.

William Manson is my GG grandfather I and have been told by relatives (now long deceased) that he was originally from Scotland, whereabouts unknown.

Based on the records and posts that I've come across, he was married in 1850 in Malone, New York to Lucinda Dickey, migrated to Dane County, Wisconsin and was killed in the Civil War Battle of the Carolinas (Bentonville) in 1865. Based on the muster records, he was 42 years old when he was killed. He would have been born in 1821 or 1822. His gravestone is located in a cemetery in Oregon, Wisconsin. The same cemetery includes a James and Eliza Manson (husband and wife) close by. I suspect that they are brothers or close relatives.

Other than the marriage in Malone and the military records, I haven't been able to find any other information. Perhaps there is a Scotland to Canada link that I'm missing. Anything that you could share would be appreciated.

Manson family in Washington County, Pennsylvania

I am trying to prove that my ancestor Joseph Wayt (1775-1845) was married to Sarah Manson. Joseph was born and grew up on a farm in Pike Run Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania. By the 1800 census he was married (no children yet). The 1800 census of Washington County reflects 3 Manson families. Joseph and Sarah eventually had two grandsons given the middle name Manson, which leads me to suspect Manson as Sarah's maiden name. Does anyone have marriage record, will, estate settlement or deed that reflects a Sarah Wayt? Have been searching for years, many thanks.

Marriage of James Wilson Sanders to Miss Gertrude Manson

Appears in "The Ravia Herald" 16 May 1908, Ravia, Johnston County, Oklahoma

M,ARRIED IN A CAB

San Antonio, Texas, May 19 - Matrimony is keeping with his swiftly moving age was accomplished in this city today by James Wilson Sanders and Miss Gertrude Manson of Kervill, who were married by Justice Umshoid while making a thrilling drive from the court house to the train. These lovers were to meet by appointment in San Antonio but by some mistake missed each other until by mental telepathy each one reached the conclusion that the other would probably be at the courthouse. Here they met just fifteen minutes before the train left that was to take the groom to an important business engagement. They rushed madly to the clerk's office, snatched a license before he had it hardly filled out, unceremoniously hustled the justice of the peace into a hack. The groom ordered the cabby to drive at a gallop and the justice to get buys with the marriage ceremony. They were married in time, made their train also and it is presumed will live happy ever after.
