William Manthei/Manthai family

Classification: Query
Surnames: manthei, manthai, montine, fausch
Looking for info on the origins of the following family

William Manthei b.circa 1836, Posen?
Amalia (Fausch) Manthei b. circa 1840, Posen?
Gottleib Manthei b. circ 1865, Posen?
Hulda Manthei b. circ 1868, Posen?

The above family came from Hamburg to NY aboard the Germania on July 29, 1869. The family appears in two separate sections of the passenger list. At the begining of the list are William Manthai [sic], Emilie [sic] and Huldah. At the end of the passenger list is Gotlieb Manthei [sic} age 4, immediately following an entry for a Wilhelmina Fausch age 58. This all becomes clear having known the family in the 1880 census prior to finding the ship thay came over on.

In the 1880 census, the family name is Montine, as it is in 1893 when Hulda was married, and in 1904 in Amalia's obit, and in 1912 in William's obit. With a Minnie Fausch as "mother in law" also in the 1880 Montine household, it just about seals the connection between the mutated forms of the Manthai/Manthei/Montine surname.

If anyone is tracking this Manthei line, I have some US side info on them, however my purpose in tracing them is to follow the Fausch side which my gut tells me are related to my own Fausches from the Battrow/Zlotow area before 1850.
