Both born in Germany around 1862 and seem to have lived in Minnesota though I have no record of their deaths nor siblings or other family etc. Does anyone have information about this line? Thanks

I am looking for information about Anton or Anthony Manthey as well. He was married to Matilda and one of their sons, Herbert was my grandfather. Is this the same line? I don't see much on here for the German line of Manthey.

I would like to share information with you! I have information on August Manthey (Manthei) in ref to the St. John Luth Church. I have a electronic copy of the deed to the property he donated to St. John church. I contacted the church and the historian was able to recall a massive amount of information. He is also able to provide the German certificates that the family came to the US with. I think that this may be a match in our research as 4 of your names are also in my gedcom. shawnn@mantheys.net

So far I can't find a connection, because I can't get back any further than the name of my great grandfather's parents who lived in the Chicago area at the time he was born in 1881.

I've been having a bit of trouble (understatement) with "my" Mante's - since I have little info on where they came from before they showed up in Niagara County, NY. My grandmother, Emelie Mante, married into the Moll clan - and the Moll's were from the Rothenklempenow area of Prussia....but I don't think that's where the Mante's were living. Maybe my problem has been that the "Mante" spelling is a mangled something-else?

He said he came to America with his brothers looking for his father. He said his brothers were jewelers in New York. Noone has a record of his father's name.

Other families stories - he came to America the second time to avoid service in the Prussian army. He pretended to be death mute to get on the boat for America. He used to say that the family name in Prussia was man-teufel sp? He was a bit of a joker and the translation in "one devil".

If any of these family yarns sound familier, please post your response.

I have been trying to trace the lineage of my great Grandfather Adolph Manthey. We think he was born in 1858 or 1864 in Gdanskiego (Danzig), Poland. After coming to the US, he moved to Morris, Illinois and then Montana where he died in 1920. the family story is that he came to America looking for his father who had disappeared in America. My mother mentioned that she had heard that he had to brothers in New York who were jewelers.

(More, Manthey) Mrs. Donald McLeod - obit

June 20, 1926
Blue Earth Post
Faribault Co., MN, USA

A Beloved Mother Completes Life's Journey

Mrs. Donald MCLEOD passed to her blessed home Friday evening, July 16th, 1926, after a few days illness, although she had been in failing health for a considerable time.

The deceased came to this country from Glasgow, Scotland, in 1850 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. R. MORE who have long since passed on. Besides the parents she was accompanied by two brothers Robert and Andrew R., and a sister, Mrs. Annette SILLIMAN, now residing at Medford, Oregon. The family settled and lived until 1858 in Jefferson county, Wisconsin until the spring of 1858, when all members of the family came to this county and settled in Pilot Grove, where she continued to reside until the infirmities of years compelled her and the surviving husband to retire from life's activities and move into Blue Earth.

Christina McLeod was a beloved character in all that goes to make a rich Christian soul. Of a genial and genreous heart she was loved by the young people, and a loveable Christian mind she was ever ready for duty in the homes of the ill or the unfortunate and her ministrations to these were ever complete. It is indeed a benediction to many of us to have known this kindly spirit more than half a century. She was the mother of seven children, four sons and three daughters, to whom she gave the best years of her life. In her church affiliations she early in life became identified with the Presbyterian organization, and in the early days when church services were held in the old log school house near her home, Mrs. MCLEOD was ever to be found present and helpful in both church and Sunday school work. Her passing out was at the ripe age of 83 years, 3 months, and 26 days.

Funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian Church yesterday forenoon by a former pastor, the Rev. J. H. FRAREY, now of Worthington.

Today I came across a marriage certificate for Henry J. Porter and Louse Manthey in an Antique Mall. They were married in Portage County Wisconsin on December 29th 1908. It is signed by an Evangilacal Lutheran Pastor and also by the witnesses. Please get in touch with me immediately if this is your family and you want this certificate. It is framed and looks great!
Michael Manthey born 8-22-1846 in West Prussia, died 3-02-1923 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, married Anna Schultz in Sheboygan on 10-28-1875. Anna Schultz was born in West Prussia on 6-27-1856 and died in Sheboygan on 8-15-1940. They had 14 children. Would like to know the cities or villages Michael and Anna came from in West Prussia and would like contact from any relatives of this family. These were my maternal great-grandparents.
