Hello,
I'm trying to find any info on a Richard Manwaring, born 1803 in Horsmoden, Kent and was married to Maria (maiden name unknown as yet). I believe him to be the Father of my great (x4) Grandfather, Thomas (Strange) Manwaring (1830-1889, Brenchley, Kent). He was married to Mary Ann and they had 8 children:

Philadelphia (1829)
Thomas (1830-1889)
Margaret (1838)
Sarah (1843)
Elizabeth (1841)
Rebeccah (1846)
Susannah (1848)
Anne P (1850)

If anyone has any info on any of those listed or any connections, it would be great to hear from you.
Thanks!
Lisa
I know my genology traces back to the same time frame 1700's but in Westport.. I would venture to guess they are related. Back in the arly 1900's there was a building in Westport called the Manwaring building. If you google you can find info. That is all I know I am new to this.

New info on Stephen Manwaring/Mainwaring of Westmoreland VA, Perquimans Co NC d 1699 Richmond co VA

New information & records that I have found recently shed some light on STEPHEN MANWARING/MAINWARING b abt 1630 England, who lived Westmoreland Co VA and Perquimans Co NC, and died 1699 Richmond Co VA.

To begin with, the Thigpen Tribe book by Alice Whitley Smith indicates that STEPHEN married HANNAH VOSE JONES, who was a widow with a small son JOHN JONES who was mentioned in STEPHEN's 1699 Richmond Co VA will.

I now believe this assumption is incorrect.

STEPHEN did marry HANNAH VOSE, but she was not previously married to a JONES, and was not the mother of grandson JOHN JONES mentioned in the will.

According to Robert K Headley in the book, "Married Well & Often," STEPHEN MANWARING's daughter (first name unknown) married JOHN JONES I b abt 1660s Northumberland Co VA, died 1695 Westmoreland Co VA. He was married at least twice, his last wife being named Mary, and she possibly and ASHTON. The unknown MAINWARING/MANWARING was his first wife, and bore him two sons, JOHN JONES II and MAiNWARING/MANWARING JONES. Here is an abstract of JOHN JONES I Westmoreland Co VA will:

"Will of JOHN JONES written Jan 1695, probated March 25, 1695: Son ASHTON JONES when 18 years of age; daughter ELIZABETH JONES; sons MAINWARING JONES & JOHN JONES to live with their mother in law (stepmother) MARY JONES and she all the personal estate and plate until they are 20 years old. Wife to be executrix."

Here is what I have gleaned so far:

STEPHEN MAINWARING/MANWARING b abt 1630 England, lived Westmoreland Co VA & Perquimans Co NC, died 1699 Richmond Co VA
|
children by wife ELIZABETH UNKNOWN who died before 1688:
Elizabeth MANWARING b abt 1671 Westmoreland Co VA m James THIGPEN II
Susannah MANWARING b abt 1670s m Stephen TRAMISON (sp?)
Unknown MANWARING b abt 1670s m JOHN JONES I

|
children by wife HANNAH VOSE, who died before 1697:
John MANWARING b abt 1688 Perquimans Co NC
Hannah MANWARING b abt 1690s Perquimans Co NC m Robert MOORE

Third Wife JANE indicated from 1699 Richmond Co VA will (one transcription shows her as Joan). Robert K Headley in his book "Married Well & Often" indicates this JANE/JOAN was a HEATH (not a VOSE or WILKINSON as some sources have indicated) and was executrix for a Joseph HEATH, but I have not been able to verify this.

Comments appreciated, more research to come.

Betty T

PS I would like to find the source that shows this STEPHEN MANWARING/MAINWARING of VA & NC as a son of Rev JOHN MAINWARING, Rector of Stoke on Trent, England & SUSANNAH PIGGOT. Lots of folks have posted this information, but I personally haven't been able to verify it.

I am researching the Missouri Manwarings. From the 1830 census for Union Township, Washington County, MO I find
C H Manwaring 55 years old born in Delaware. His wife Elizabeth E Branham was born in Kentucky. I have him for the same town on the 1840 and 1850 censuses. His children are found in Washington and Jefferson counties, Missouri and in Fulton and Lawrence county, Arkansas. His sons Andrew J Manwaring and Orville C Manwaring both served in the Confedrate Army from Missouri. His grandson James R Manwaring served in the Confederate Army from Arkansas.

I have many generations of this family charted, and am interested in sharing information.

I have not yet found any other records placing them in Delaware besides the 1830 census.

Hello Alex

I posted by message in response to Heathers as I have struck a brick wall with my Henry Martin Manwaring.

He was born abt 1794, and died 29 July 1875 at St Nicholas, Worcester, aged 81. His father may have been called James and his grandfather Samuel and they may have been born in the Great Pagehurst region.

He married a Sarah Garland in May 1822 at St Brides Fleet Street London.

I have found Henry and Sarah on the 1851 census and they are living at 13 Corn Market, Saint Martin, Worcester.

In my research I cam across a death entry and purchased a death cert for a Samuel Martin Manwaring who died 1868. I thought with the same middle name and reasonable closeness in age that they may be related

Here is an extract from that entry:
Samuel Manwaring abt 1809 Hythe, Kent, England Head St Pancras Middlesex.

Anyway to cut a long story short if you have any info on this man I would love to know
thanks

Samuel Manwaring abt 1809 Hythe, Kent, England Head St Pancras Middlesex
Hello Heather, I cannot help with your query but I am trying to trace my Manwaring line. I also have a Henry Manwaring b abt 1794 and died in 1875 at St Nicholas , Worcester. He married Sarah Garland in 1822. Henry I beleive was born Bennington (Benenden)??, Kent. It is possible that Henry has a brother called Samuel. Cheers

I'm looking for information on the family of Henry Manwaring, born 1827 in Sandbach, Cheshire, England. He married Sarah Barber in 1853. The parents I have listed for him are John Mainwaring and Eleanor Bratt. There has been some confusion on this line with the generations getting mixed up and I'd like to straighten it out.
