David and Eliza

This is especially for Julie Manwarren, but I would appreciate help from anyone. Several months, or a couple of years ago, we corresponded concerning David Manwarren (Oct. 23, 1810--Jul 7, 18--Dec. 29, 1893) and Eliza Valie (Jan. 4, 1813--28 Oct. 1898) . I have visited David and Eliza's graves in Michigan in Monroe County. There is also a James B. Manwarren buried there along with his wife. He was born in 1821. Pretty close to David's birth. James was born in Mexico, Oswego, New York. Giles b. Jan. 27, 1786 in Lyme, New London, Connecticut, at various times was also in Bethany, Genesee, New York; Philadelphia Dock Ward, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Oxford, Chenango, New York; Portage, Kalamazoo, etc.

I am pretty sure that Giles had two wives and two separate families. It's my feeling that David and James B were half brothers but possibly full brothers. I suppose they could have been cousins, but it doesn't seem to me that James would have followed David to Lulu or Ida, Monroe, Michigan if they were no closer than that. There are still Manwarrens/Manwarrings/ living in the area.

Do you think that my theories might possibly be correct? If so, how in the world am I going to prove it?

I appreciate all the help you've given me looking for David and Eliza. I surely hope we come up with the answer soon.

Thank you.

Verl L. Manwarren
410 North Broadway Avenue
Sterling, Kansas 67579
lee386@embarqmail.com
Jim,

You have absolutely no idea how much I have been waiting and hoping for someone like you to come along. I have been looking for information on David and Eliza for more than forty years. They are as far back as I can go. I have their kids listed and places of birth but not birth dates. Although I am working of several lines at once, my main interest is David and Eliza. I have been to their graves in the Lulu Cemetery in Lulu, Monroe County, Michigan. So I know when they were born and when they died. However, I don't know where they were born for sure--David was probably born in New York but I have records that claim he was born in Pennsylvania and Connecticut. I doubt it. My best bet is near or in Mexico, Chenango County, New York.

There is a James B. Manwarren and his wife, daughter, and son-in-law buried in the same cemetery as David and Eliza. David is, I believe, eleven years older than James. Were they half brothers, both sons of Giles (the younger one, not his father) or were they related in some other way. Why did they both go to Lulu? Was David the offspring of Gile's first wife and James the offspring of Gile's second wife? So many questions, so few answers.

I would greatly, greatly appreciate any answers to my questions that you can give me. I would also be extremely glad if you would share your information with me. I have a great many of David's son's (George's) descendents. I would be more than happy to share what I have with you, including photos.

Thanks so much for writing. I will anxiously await your next email.

David, by the way, was my great-great grandfather.

Thanks again for getting in touch with me. I'll send you a picture (files) or David and Eliza, (also) originally tintypes, soon.

Verl Manwarren
410 North Broadway
Sterling, Kansas 67579
(620) 278- 3530
lee386@embarqmail.com

Cindy, this is the first time I have seen any mention of the name Manwarren in the message boards. By any chance is the Manwarren you are researching related to Emmett Manwarren of Oxford, NY? I'd love to hear from you as my Manwarren research is going nowhere. I was actually able to come up with a lot of information on Ida by researching my grandfathers brother Claude. Please contact me at RoseLeeRN@aol.com and we can share family information. I would like to see references back to Jabez Manwarring - I haven't been able to follow the Manwarren line back further than Emmett.

Manwarren DNA project

This is for all of you who have reached the same dead end with George Manwarren/Manwaring and Temperance Chapel and how and if they are connected to Oliver Manwaring. (possibly through Richard?) Perhaps you are struggling too, with finding proof that your ancestor is the desendant of the Manwarings of New London, CT. DNA is the answer. We have contacted Relative Genetics Labs in Utah, and they are willing to send us kits to collect DNA. If you are interested in helping us with this project through a little financial help or if you are a male and a direct decsendant of George and are willing to provide a sample of your DNA and you are interested in having access to this data, please email me at manwarren@epix.net
Thanks!
Hello! I have information on your line. I was so excited to read your message posting. Emmett (who married Ida Padgett) had 4 sons. Claude, E. Ross, Jay, and Ray. Ray had a son named Howard and Howard had a son named Harris. Harris Manwarren lives in Chenango County and I have been in contact with him. He gave me information on his line back to the 1700's. I am tracing my husband's line through Emmett's brother, William. The line is as follows:
George Manwaring (name wasn't changed to Manwarren until later), born 1767 in New London, CT; died May 2, 1848 in Chenango County, NY. he was married to a Lucy (last name unknown) and had seven children, George Jr., Giles, John, Samuel, Hannah, Nancy, and Temperance. Samuel had a son named James F. Manwarren who married a Mary Ann Clark. James was born on 1832 in Chenango County, NY and died on Dec. 3, 1884. James had four sons, Samuel, William (my husbands line) Charles, and Emmett (your line). I am working with Harris Manwarren and would be willing to work together with you as well to piece to gether more information on this line and see if we can locate the ancestors of George. Please email me at manwarren@epix.net if you would like to correspond. Good luck in your research!
sincerely,
Julie A.
Heather, I was pleased to receive your detailed information on Mary Manwarren. Thank you very much. Mary and John Wellington eventually had quite a large family (see below). Sadly, Mary died at a fairly young age (45), leaving several small children for John to finish raising. Within a few years, he married a young woman named Kitty Hickok, who was a widow w/no children. John and Kitty had no children. Both lived very long lives and, according to newspaper accounts, both were well liked and respected members of the New London, IA community.

According to the 1870 Census for Iowa, Henry Cty., Baltimore, the children of Mary Manwarren and John Wellington were:
Ellie, 13, born in Indiana
Minor, 11, born in Michigan
Hattie, 8, born in Michigan
George, 6, born in Michigan
William, 1, born in Iowa.
The 1880 Census (same location) lists 4 additional children, all born in Iowa:
Sarah, 8
John, 6
Emma, 4
Fred, 1

Mary's grave is in the Lowell, IA cemetery. The gravestone also lists John's name and I believe he may be buried there, altho I haven't confirmed that yet. Thank you again for sharing your information about Mary Manwarren, my great-grandmother. Her child, Minor, was my ancestor. I will be happy to share further information with you if you have interest. J. Skog

I have information on each of these and their children. Many are buried in the Riverview cemetery in Oxford, NY. This past summer I visited the cemetery. However, I can find no information concerning Emmett. My mother and her sisters do not remeber. If there is any additional inofmration, I would be intersted also.

I don't know much about the Manwarrens of Oxford except for the ones who married into my husband's family. However, they may go back to George Manwarren, who appears on the 1830 census for Oxford. He was in his 60's then, and is probably the same George Manwarren who died on May 2, 1848, age 81. (This is from Oxford Vital Records -- I believe I found it at the Chenango County webiste.)

There was also a Giles Manwarren in Oxford on the 1830 census. He was in his 20's, so he could have been George's son, but I don't know for sure. And the Oxford Vitals show a Lucretia Manwarren of Oxford who married Benjamin Potter on 5 Apr 1849.

I don't know how all these people were related, and I don't know how (or even if) they were connected to the various Manwaring and Manwarring families who also lived in Chenango County -- although it does seem likely that they all originated in Connecticut.

Good luck with your search.

Laurel was married to my grandfather James Richard Heathcock. Together they had 5 children:
James Richard jr., Edwin, Kennith Donavan, Charles Robert, and Velma Jean. No one seems to know anything else. I dont have any dates, I know that Laurel and James both died in Ithica, Mi but I think they may have come out of the St.Louis area. Not positive though. Viola may have been Laurels middle name or even her mothers name. If anyone has any information on her, or something that might tie into it, please email me. jill_heathcock@hotmail.com Thank you!:)

Linda -
Are you by any chance referring to Emmett Manwarren (1858-1937) who married Ida B. Padgett on 4 Feb 1885 in Oxford, NY? I am doing research on the Padgetts of Oxford (my husband's mother's family), so if this is the same Emmett, I'd like to compare notes with you. Ida's mother was also a Manwarren, so I've been curious about this family and have been looking around for information on them -- I suspect they are descended from Jabez Manwarring who settled in Coventry in 1806.
Cory

Hello,

I have a little info on your mary Manwarren. I have Mary Manwarren dob 3-12-1836 in New York, the daughter of David Manwarren dob 10-23-1810 NY and Eliza Valie dob 1-4-1813 PA. The Manwarren line migrated accross the us as follows..NY/OH/Indiana/MI/KS. I have Mary married to John Wellington and they are living next door to Mary's parents David and Eliza in the 1860 Noble, Branch, Michigan Census. My family comes from Mary's brother George Manwarren who married Isadora West. Mary's siblings are as follows

Martha Ester 4-12-1833
Scemilous Lord 3-4-1840
Elizabeth 10-31-1842
George O. 10-30-1845
Andrew Bebe 3-26-1851
Julia Melissa 3-1-1855

Hope we can get together and share some info. I did notice on the Census that john and mary's children, the 1st child was born in indiana and the 2nd in michigan. they only had the 2 kids in the 1860 census.

Heather

Gary, I'm not sure where they would be buried. I think it would be in or around Oxford, though. I will email you what I have and we can keep each other posted on our findings. We did find a connection for George though. We now have good evidence that suggests he was the son of George Manwaring and Temperance Chapel. Also, it is my belief that he is some how desended from Richard Manwaring and Eleanor Jennings. Have you come across these names at all? - Julie

I have been searching and searching for a George Manwarren born 1767 and died 1848. he was possibly married to a Lucy? and was most likely from Connecticut. If you can help at all I would appreciate it!
(the line I am researching originated in CT and ended up in chenango county, NY. My husbands GGrandfather is Ward Manwarren, son of William Manwarren, son of James F. Manwarren, son of Samuel Manwarren, son of George (where I reached a dead end).
Hi Mark! I thought I would post the information here so that others who are searching can view it as well. Your grandfather's (Kenneth) father was Ward Manwarren (birth and death dates unknown by me at this time) he was born in NY and he was married to Rose May Gardner. (her dates and parentage unknown). Ward's father was William Manwarren. William was born in 1856 in Chenango County, NY. William's wife was Fannie Hackett. Fannie was born about 1862 in New York. I have information on her ancestors if you want it. William's father was James F. Manwarren/Manwaring (unsure when name changed to Manwarren, but have seen James' last name spelled as Manwaring) James was born 1832 in Chenango County, NY and he died Dec. 3, 1884 in New York. He was married to Mary Ann Clark from Oxford, New York (dates unknown). James' father was Samuel Manwaring. I have no dates on Samuel or info on his wife. Samuel died young - before James was 16. Samuel's father was George Manwaring. George was born in 1767 in New London, CT. He married Lucy (last name unknown) and they moved to Chenango County, NY around 1806 with George's brothers, Jabez and Peter. George died May 2, 1848 in Chenango County, NY. His wife Lucy died in Chenango County in 1845. George's parents were George Manwaring & Temperance Chapel of New London, NY. I have the line traced back from George to the year 1200. There are one or two glitches in the line where I couldn't find proveable evidence. But I feel it is the most accurate I could get it at this time. every thing i have posted here has been sourced. hope it helps!
