Joe,
I have done a little bit of checking on Ernie Mapes and Gertrude Roseboom using the information you provided. It appears that there may have been 2 Gilbert Roseboom in updtate New York, our born in Feb. of 1849 and another one born in Oct. of the same year. Nice source for confusion there.

Our Gilbert seems to have moved to Allegany Co., NY before 1880 and had three children (according to the 1900 census), but I can only find names for two of them: Herbert (b.1879) and Gertrude (b. Nov. 1882). The third one is reported to be alive in 1900, but not listed with the rest of the family.

The 1900 census indicates that Gertrude's full name may have been Myrtle Gertrude. And the 1900 census seems to really try to confuse by having what appears to be as a double listing for Gertrude (or Myrtle Gertrude). One with her parents (Gilbert and Minnie) with no other children (ED 30, p. 9A) and apparently with her brother, Herbert, and living in a household with Selina Finch (ED 30, p. 5A). I am not going to persue that one.

Harry Seachrist's parents were Ross Seachrist and Mary Ritz.

I will have other MAPES queries in due course.

After a several year interruption to work on my own family, I am back to my wife's family and seeking information on the MORRIS, MAPES, POLEN, and SIKES families among other. Specifically I am now seeking information on an Ernie P. Mapes (1887-1912), son of Phinando Philando Mapes and Hattie Elizabeth Brooks. Ernie was born in Portville, Cattaraugus Co., NY in 1887 and in the 1900 census is living with his family in Bradford, McKean Co., PA (right across the NY/PA border).

I have no source for his marriage, but he is alleged to have married a Gertrude Roseboom in 1907, but I am unable to find the couple in the 1910 census.

Ernie Mapes died in 1912 and is buried in the Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Portville, Cattaraugus Co., NY.

Questions: Who is Gertrude Roseboom? When and where was she born and who were her parents?

Did Ernie and Gertrude ever have children?

Did Gertrude remarry after Ernie died?

Jacob McClain... found in the Thomas Family Tree under rcmcclain... Jacob is John McClain son and married to Lydia Worth. John his father had married Elizabeth Maple and her line is from the Jacob Maple, had a brother named William Maple who had a daughter Clarissa that married a John McClain...
The McClain of Ohio, Maryland and the Maples of Maryland, and Ohio lines are connected several times down the tree. That is why you see all these common names repeating over and over again. Alot of the MClain moved to the West Coast,alot of them setteled in Calif, Oregon, Washington.

I don;t have a birthdate on John Mapes so it's impossible to tell if he is in the database and connected back to Thomas Mapes. I'm not sure what that marriage date refers to. I have several birth dates for Benjamin and the earliest would make him 18 at the time of his marriage to Elizabeth White. So until there is more definite information, such as Bible or church records I will leave things as they are.

I'm not sure that she would know of anyone beyond our grandparents but you can give it a try.

Connie should have some of the information. I doubt Butch would know much.

Other than Sher or Connie, I can't think of anyone else up there that would have any information.

I do recall someone mentioning Orville. Sher would know that, I think. :)

I am just beginning my search into the Mapes Family. To the best of my knowledge the following is correct. Medora Stoddard (b. Feb. 1908- Jul 1982)married Ronalde Mapes (b. 1911 MI). Rolande was the son of Frank Monroe Mapes (b. 1876 MI)and Ellen D. (?)born 1880. Medora and Ronalde divorced in Kent County around 1940. They had one son Howard Monroe Mapes (b. 1932).

We communicated a while back. Since then I am convinced because of the 1860 censes that Sophia Mapes Father is Robert C Mapes, From the dates, her mother would have to be Jane Van Note.

What can you tell me about Robert and Jane?

I have Robert as married to Susannah Oxberger on March 30, 1834 in Shelby County, Ohio, But I can not find any children from this marriage. Though a Reuben Mapes living in the same town in the 1860 at the age of 25 may be his son.

I have Robert as married to Jane Van Note in 1840 and having the following children:

1870 Robert and Mariah in MI
1880 Robert and son William in MI

I do believe, in the 1850 Censes, that is this Robert in prision. The reason being is that I can find some his children that were born by then but they are with other families.

I have also found where someone claims that Benjamin Mapes and Elizabeth White were Roberts parents, but the dates do not seem to fit correctly

Can you add to / correct any of this information?

For Benjamin Mapes and Elizabeth White to be Robert's parents does not fit. If the marriage date is corret, May 1, 1758, then it is more likely Benjamin is Robert's brother. In additon, considering the fact that Robert and Benjamin were born in Ohio, and at that time there were not a lot of Mapes in Ohio, again I say it is most likely they were brothers.

We agree on most information except for a few dates and the parents of Abraham. I will paste in below the information I have on Robert C. I am unsure of his parents from information from another researcher but I am sure he is descended from Thomas Mapes, born 1628. I published a 3 volume set of books on Thomas and his descendants and issue an annual CD that updates all the information in the database. If you are interested in these publications let me know and I will send more information.

I cannot identify Abraham and Louisa Mapes in the Mapes Family database or in the 1870 census. I have a Mary Mapes, in the Mapes database born 1869 in IL but her parents are Rufus and Susan Mapes.

This family is in the Mapes Family Database and is connected directly to Thomas Mapes, born 1628. Arthur John Mapes is the 8th great grandson of Thomas Mapes and Sarah Purrier, his wife. Let me know if you are interested in the publications that connect these individuals.

I'm afraid I can't help much since I have nothing beyound the names of the children of Jeanetta and Philip Hoover. I presume the Ruth Leone Hoover you mention is the Leona Hoover in the FGS that I posted.
As I mentiuoned in a previous reply I can only trace the Mapes line back 4-5 generations. If you would like to contribute any info to the Mapes Family Association database it would be greatly appreciated.

Delilah A. MAPES

Delilah A. Mapes born 4/16/1842 died 11/25/1912. She married Joseph Rudolf Hutchisson in 1862. Unknown if she was born in Hawkins Co.,TN where her husband was from or in Ostrander, OH where he moved to, they lived and are buried.

Any info would be greatly appreciated, based on my DNA testing she could be of indian heritage.

Sorry this is all I know about her. I have more info on her Husband Joseph Rudolf Hutchisson born 9/1/1841 in Hawkins co TN.

I also sowh that they were married in 1862 don't know where. This info was from a distant cousin.
