Dear Jamie,
I am a grandson of John Jameson Mapel, to whom the book "The Maple/Mapel Family in America" is dedicated. I have recently established contact with a seventh cousin (also named John Mapel)who would very much like to get a copy of the book or the CD. Would you know any way he could do that? I would really appreciate any help you could give us.
Sincerely,
John Mapel

She lived in Ravenswood, WV (actually Wilding, WV) with Solomen in 1880.
I'm not sure if I can help, but let's give it a try. I'm a great grandson of Jerome Watrous, known among other things for the fact that he served faithfully as a Union soldier from 1861 through 1865. He played an important role at the Battle of Gettysburg and many other engagements.

Jerome was born in New York state, and spent most of his life in Wisconsin.

If this sounds like a tie-in with your family, please feel free to e-mail me.

I am also a descendent of A.B. Maple. My grandmother was Ethel Maple. You had the brothers names correct but there was no sister named Jean. Mae and Dorothy died of typhoid fever. Ethel had 2 daughters Dorothy Mae and Rosemary Jean (Called Jean). I am Jean's daughter and she is now 82 years old and very healthy. She also has first hand knowledge of your Grandmother, my Aunt Blanche. If you would like to learn more let me know. I think that my mom is one of the last of her family and she would love to share her memories.

Margaret,

Thanks so much for searching for this. I imagine it might be hard to find once getting back to that time period. All the transportation record said he was from Ipswich, so I imagine he must have been born there or close by anyways. I hope you can find something, of all the people that had researched my Benjamin Maple, they can't seem to find anything regarding his parents, or least that is what they said. I know there were Maple's that went to Virginia about the same time period as my Benjamin came to New Jersey, I am just wondering if they might be related somehow.....have done a little research on them, but its like they vanished. Looking forward to hearing back from ya.

jamie

Hello,

I descend from a Benjamin Maple, when he was transported from Ipswich, Suffolk county, England, his name was Maplin, which that could be an error on the writer at that time....also when Benjamin was married in New Jersey in 1695, his marriage certificate had the name of Maplin on it.....the name is now Maple and sometimes its also spelled Mapel...which my grandfather spelled it Maple and his own brother spelled is Mapel..so this happens even today. I am just wondering on the Maplin name, they must of dropped the "in" and inserted an "e".

jamie

Hello again,

Guess I should have read all the replys to the message, it seems that Louisa is related to this Jerome Watrous. I would be interested in the Watrous genealogy. My mother is a Maple (maiden name) she comes from the Maple's that started out in Coshocton and Guernsey County, Ohio, Abraham was born in Guernsey County, Ohio and is a 2nd cousin 3 times removed to my mother.

jamie

I am new to this, and I am looking for information on my grandmother's family. She was Florence Blanche Maple from Logansport, IN and was married to Joseph E. Lusher also of Logansport in Cass County. I don't remember her father's given name, but her mother was Jennie or Jenny Friend. I don't remember the names of all her siblings, but she had brothers Guy, Ray and Roy Maple. Sisters were Ethel who married Curtis Kennel (moved to Indianapolis) and Dorothy, Mae, and Jean who died rather young. If you have any information on them, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Thanks. Dianne

I am a Maple born and my GGGrandfather John James Mapledoram chose to drop the Doram. Nobody knows why but it may be that it was easier to write if he had poor literacy skills. He was a farm labourer and then a butcher on the boats from England. I know another side who went to Australia dropped the Male and kept the Doram.

I live in England. My GGgrandfather was John James Mapledoram who left the west country and settled in Wales. He dropped the Doram. I cannot say that all Maples are from this. I think that we may have come from the village of Mapledurham in Reading near London. I have a copy of an extract from Early Holborn showing an exchange of land between Isabel De Spreirone and Adam de Basing that is between land of Hereward le Megucer and Richard de Mapledoreham (pre 1250). With having large families (my ggrandfather had 13 all serviving)the sons would have to move further away to get land.

My family were farmers in Devon and it is possible they gradualy moved there.

Hi Jamie

I have heard from Ipswitch Records and they have given me the following information plus the Will of Benjamin Maple SR. Born 1663 Ipswitch, Suffolk, England, 0n May 8 1684 signed with his mark a plantation indenture to John Smith, for 4 years of service. He then was to be transported on the ship "Friendship" to America. Left England at the age of 21 to go to Barbados to serve as an indentured servant for four years to pay for his travel expences to America. After his term in Barbados he endtered the Colonies at New Jersey. May have worked to finish paying his passage debt or was trying to make a home to start a family. No Maple from this line ever owened slaves. This may have been due to the experiences Benjamin had in Barbados. A weaver, who lived in New Brunswick. Married 6/4/1694. Died 5/13/1727.

He had a wife Elizabeth and son Benjamin an older daughter Ruth Ashley, youngest daughter Catherine Mello and stepson David Lee. He had a plantation of 100 acres of land and meadow with house and barn, cattle and horses.
When I get some time I will try and get to the Church Records to find his parents.

Margaret

I have been to the Ipswich records office and was able to look at an early church register for Ipswich. It was not very clear due to having an old microfiche. There are several old churches and I did not have long to search. I will go again soon and make a day of it and book a better machine. As we do not know if he was born in Ipswich or the surounding villages it may take quite a while. I will let you know how I get on.

Margaret
My great grandmother was Laura Roberts Maples, her husband was named James B., or J.B. or James Buckhanon, he was born in GA, cannot locate any info on him except for when he married in Texas, his first wife Margaret "Maggie" Acheson died in childbirth, than he married Laura one year later. Do you have any sibling info that I may trace back to his parents name?
     T. Grant was very gracious to me and Ruth Maple. She answered a query I had, and gave me her lineage, with a reference to a man in Wichita, Kansas who was researchin
the Maple family. He gave me T.Grant's address. Immediately, I received a reply, with T. Grant sending me the entire chapter that pertained to my family, also Ruth's, so I sent a copy to her, which lead to her also writing T. Grant. The upshot was that he had several questions to ask each of us to clear up some questions he had about several of our ancestors. We were both able to help him resolve this and extend his information. He
gave us credit in the forward, and we all have new relatives to share..........
and more Christmas cards to receive.............He will be missed................
Children Abducted by Marvin & Sandra Maple

Posting this to widen visibility of case.

Robert and Katharine Baskin abducted March 1, 1989 by their grandparents Marvin and Sandra Maple.

Circumstances: The children were abducted by their non-custodial maternal grandparents, Marvin and Sandra Maple. Photos and vital statistics for them are posted below. At the time, the children were in the temporary custody of them after allegations that the children's parents sexually abused them. The allegations were determined to be baseless and police fear harm may come to the children as the Maples stated they would kill the children before they were turned over to their parents. The Maples were living with the children in Santa Clara, California, from March 10, 1989 to August 1989. Police say the couple may be driving a tan, customized van with license plates from a southern state. A FBI Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution Warrant was issued for the abductors on April 6, 1989.

See Link:
http://www.childquest.org/viewcase.php?casenum=1077&pers...
