Hallo Barbara
Sorry I haven't been in touch. Since I last contacted you so much has happened. Unfortunately my Mum died at the end of June after a long illness. as you can imagine there was a lot for me to do for my Dad. He is OK though and getting on really well..
We also at about the same time had problems with a newly born Grandson, so I was also in London quite a lot. I am afraid geneology has taken quite a back seat at the moment.
Please keep in touch.
Hi,

I have further information since I posted that. Cyril's mother was called Minnie Marley, but her mother's surname was Betts. Minnie Marley's father was also called Marley and his wife was Elizabeth Betts. Minnie's father was Irish and her mother was half Irish. I think perhaps Minnie got onfused when she gave the mothers surname, giving HER mother's surname which was Betts.

Hi

I'm not sure that "my" George is your one but perhaps. George William Marchant died in WW1 in 1917, rank Rifleman and married to a "Minnie". I have no info suggesting he was a corporal in 1916 but it is possible. George was definitely English not Irish. The info I have read states that George married a Minnie Marley not Betts against her parents wishes. Perhaps she remarried a man called Betts?

Hi,
William Marchant was my Mum's Grandfather. He was born in 1897 Hereford. In the 1901 Census he was listed as living with Minnie as a visitor. His birth certificate states father is unknown.

After Minnie died in 1909 Jacob Schuck remarried, and William went to live with Alfred and Alice Jakeaway (listed as adopted in 1911 Census). I think he went to live with Minnie as a visitor after Susan (his Grandmother married to John) died.

William married in June 1925 to Eva May Morgan in Stoke-Upon-Trent, Staffordshire.

In 1926 they had a son (mum's father) (still living) and another son Charles H Marchant b.Sept 1927 died in a matter of days from infantile convulsions.

In April 1928 William was killed while working in a mine at Markham Colliery, South Wales. His death record is listed April 1928, Bedwellty. He was crushed while removing a tram along a track.

Eva moved back to Hereford and remarried James William Innes (known as Will) in 1930. They had another 2 children.

Please get in touch.
Lindsey

I am trying to find a George William Marchant who was a Corporal in 1916. He had a son named Cyril Percy Marchant, born in Chatham, Kent in 1916, with a Minnie Betts although I'm not completely sure that they were married. Cyril's birth certificate names both Minnie and George, but on his marriage certificate there is no father's name. George is rumoured to be Irish but this may be gossip

Is any one looking for Nathan Nelson Marchant?
Name: Nathan N Marchant
Spouse: Frances J
Birth: abt 1853 - Georgia
Residence: 1910 - Thigpen, Colquitt, Georgia

I saw some graves in a wooded area and I wanted to know who it was, so I went to see and it was thier grave. I would want to know this if it was my family. I feel that someone has been looking after it because it look very nice. It had a iron fence around it so I couldnt get in but theres 2 or 3 babies there too. I took a few pictures I can send to any one that would like to have them. I could go back later and better ones. Who knows maybe he is related to me. I have a Henry Marchant in my tree but they changed thier name to Mershon. Let me know if you want them.

This is a long shot, has anyone come across a John Charles Marchant also known as Joe Marchant also known as John Charles Denley. He was 41 years of age in 1939 and in South Africa. He was supposedly in the Merchant Navy UK and came from Bath. I have been searching for years, and have found nothing. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.
Lesley

Hi Marcus
You have the same Marchants from Eastbourne .
I got stuck too at exactly the same spot as you have got to until I got lucky . I have the same parents/grandparents at alfriston but before that the Marchants come through Preston which is a Brighton area . Ive been lucky and got the break through so can pass on what I have to you.
Not sure about the Huguenot part though but can now get back to 1400rds in the UK
Hope you get to see this message as your post was a while ago .
