This is a long time after your search, hopefully you still require the info. Pia is actually my Grandfathers Aunty. Pia's brother Giovanni married Maria (don't know maiden name) they had 4 sons Luigi, Pietro, Guiseppe and Sebastiano (my grandfather). The info that I have on Pia, she had another brother Attillio not sure of any other sibilings. She came to Australia in 1 Feb 1928. Port of embarkment - Genoa, Ship name Regina D'Italia,Port of Disembarkment Fremantle. She married Pio Masini in 1929. Pio passed away at age 23 in 1931. In 1933 Pia married Domenico Marchetti. Pia died on 10 September 1978 aged 83 (Manjimup Western Australia). Domenico Marchetti died 5 May 1972 aged 77.I have the same children Pia and Pio had Lena and Reno. Pia and Domenico had Leo. Hope this helps. If you have any more information about the Ghilarducci side of the family if you could pass that on it would be great. Thanks

Marchetti, D'Andrea Families in PA & NY

I am researching Vincenzo & Giuseppina Marchetti who emigrated to the U.S. between 1902 and 1907, coming from L'Aquila, Abruzzo, Italy. Upon arrival at Ellis Island, the passenger list indicates they planned to stay with his sister and brother-in-law, Jenny and G. D'Andrea who lived on 109th Street East (no area of city was mentioned). This family had 9 children, but only 4 lived to adulthood. At some point, they moved to Pittsburgh, PA area. Vincenzo was a mason/bricklayer. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

From what my mother told me, we are related to Gino Marchetti, the football player. What that relationship is, I can't say at this point, since I have only just begun to trace my Marchetti family from Pennsylvania, back to New York, then back to Italy. Some of the other names you have listed may also prove to be "cousins".
J. Simmons

(I apologize for the lack of details but am away from home as I write this). I am not sure if there is a connection with Giacomo Piero Marchetti whom Susanne writes about.

Marchetto to Marchetti surname change

One of our family names has always been spelled Marchetti in the US, but in searching in Italian church records I found a great grandmother's birth listed as Marchetto rather than Marchetti. Does anyone have any knowledge if this 'o' to 'i' was a common change? They came from Arzignano, Vicenza area of northern Italy. Thanks so much for any insights.

Re: Brazil's Marchetti

Hello,

My grandmother Angelina Marchetti was either born in Brazil or went from Italy to Brazil and then to Rhode Island, USA as a child as she was born in 1902 and immigration date on the census says 1913.

She had an older half sister Parma Migliorelli who married an Antonio Marchetti. Parma's mother's second husband Girardo Antonio Marchetti was my great-grandfather.

How he relates to the Marchetti Parma married, I do not know.

Best guess is that Antonio died c. 1919 because on the 1920 census Parma is listed with her children with her mother's second family and Parma is sisted as "W" for marital status. There is a Louis born about 1914-15. In 1920 they were living in Cranston, RI. Might this Louis be yours?

Cynthia Carnevale Montgomery -- now residing in Florida
thiaanne@hotmail.com

My family is a Chicago, Marchetti family. My ancestors are from Lucca, Italy. I am currently attempting a family tree, but i am having trouble tracing back to Italy. My great grandfather was Carlo Marchetti, who was born in Lucca around 1875, he married Isola Mangentini who was from Lopatto, Lucca in Chicago in 1906. They had 3 children, Paul, 1909, Lilliana, 1911, and Peter 1920. Paul Married Frances Mcgrath and had 6 children, among them my father Michael. Lilliana and Peter never married. Paul died in 1991, peter died in 1997, and Lilliana is alive today, but due to age is not much help in my search. Any help you can give would be appreciated.

She married Luigi Vajeretti from Ponte in Valtellina. Their son: Stefano Gerolamo Vajeretti (1866).
I will be glad receiving mails. Best Regards, Mara.-

Marion & Lynn,
We have a tapestry signed by Marchetti. The scene is a victorian ball room. This tapestry has "Made in France" lettered on the back of the frame. This tapestry has been in our family for at least seventy years. We assume my mother in law purchased it in the late 20's or early 30's. We are very interested in knowing more about the artist.

Dear Lynn-at this point I'm beginning to think it was a name made up by the company where the tapestries were manufactured. They are machine made and I believe in a factory in the Eastern part of the USA. Can you give me any information about anyone in your family who would have worked in making tapestries at a factory here or in Europe? On one of the tapestries there is a first name that might be Ignacio-ring a bell?E-mail me and sent any info you might have. Maybe we'll findout he was a great artist!Good luck Marion

Greetings All:

My sister recently bought a condo in North Providence, Rhode Island that belonged to the now deceased, "Connie" and Bill PAOLISSI. The place came with the couple's family photos and memorabilia - which no relative claimed.

My sister does not wish to toss these items out and asked me to help find someone who may want these photos and memorabilia. - William Paolissi seems to have been a musician and may have worked with Frank Sinatra and other well-known entertainers. Little is known about his wife, Concetta (Marchetti) Paolissi.

If anyone recognizes this couple, or has an interest, please contact me ASAP. Also, if you have suggestions as to where else to post, - or to whom to donate this memorabilia, please, pass it along. - Many thanks!

I am seeking any and all information regarding my grandfather, Renato Marchetti, supposed to have come to America in 1911 and lived, eventually, in San Francisco. Possibly a Winter in Philadelphia, I think he came through New York though since I could not find any records of ships originating from Italy and arriving in Piladelphia, they all seem to have gone to NY.

Any help is appreciated...

Jim
villadrive@hotmail.com

You are right about the Smith part! The Marchetti were founding families of Rome--and prolific. My husband's family is from Piedmont. Gugielmo (5/28/1887-8/9/1955) from Melle or Maile (province of Cuneo, state of Piedmont), son of Giovanni Batista Marchetti and Caterina Guisiano, he married Caterina Lucia Astesano, daughter of Giacomo Astesano and Anna Maria Perotto Giacomo's siblings were Guglielmo, Frederico, Guisepe, Bernardo, (Antonio?) and two sisters, names unknown. His father was either Bernardo or Antonio, as near as I can find.

Re: in search of marchetti's

Sorry to say that you have embarkied on a hard quest: the Marchetti were one of the foundering families of Rome, and have grown to such numbers that the name is at least as common in Italian society as Smith is in America. So anything you can add, such as dates, places they may have visited, brothers, sisters and cousins will help. Also complicating the issue is the fact that the custom in the old country and among first generation immigrants was to name the first son and daughter after the fathers' parents and the second after the mothers'. (If a child died, the next was given the same name.) This made for multiple persons with the same name in each generation, either siblings or cousins. Add that to the propensity for using common Christian names such as William (Guiliermo), Mary (Maria), John (Giovanni)...and you can see why dates and sets of names are so important to your search!

Happy hunting!
Ruth Marchetti
