Roots of the Marcos surname in Germany

My father emigrated from Poland (Kracow) to Shanghi, China and then to the US in the 1940's because of WWII (and Hitler). Surname is Marcos, which sounds Spanish, but there is no indication of this connection. Any ideas would be helpful
