Re: Marek family - Bohemia to Iowa

I'm doing a geneology report for a class and my great great great great grandfather was John Kolosiek, born in Bohemia in 1822, married to a Mary Marek, also born in Bohemia in 1818. So most likely they're the same people. After John, the surname was changed to Kolosick. John and Mary had a son named Albert Kolosick, who immigrated to Iowa in 1856. It looks like Albert married his half sister, Margaret, and they had Joseph Albert Kolosick. Hope this helped somehow.

I was unable to open your attachment. Although I have a Ruth Marek in my family tree and she was born about the same time as your Beverly Ruth Marek, her parents were Frank Marek and Hattie Reinke. Frank Marek's father was Joseph Marek who immigrated from Bohemia in about 1880 to Oconto, WI. Frank and Hattie married in WI abt 1917 and moved to Chicago. Apparently, Joseph was Czech. I am not sure if that would be true for your family. Best of luck, Karla

Marek in Chicago

Hello, I am looking for information on a Ruth J. Marek who was born in Chicago around 1906. She lived in Chicago, too. She was 21 when she put up her baby girl for adoption. Before giving her up, she named her daughter Beverly Ruth Marek.

Beverly was born on April 14, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois. The birth certificate says the father's information was legally omitted and the child was not legitimate. It also says that Ruth was a General Office Worker.

Beverly was my grandmother. She has been dead for more than 20 year. I am researching to know from what country our heritage comes from.

Can you help me?

Hi, Where is your MAREK family located in the USA and Poland?
My MAREK family line arrived in the USA between 1902 and 1908. Settled first in Mammoth, PA then to Michigan in approximately 1911 to 1913.
Great grandfather, Jan MAREK, spouse Helen nee' GARGASH (shortened to GARGAS).
Helen's sister, Katarzyna married Jakub GRABOWSKY/GRABOWSKI.
Jakub was Jan's half-brother.
All traveled together, following the same migration path in the USA and spent the balance of their lives in the Bay City, Bay County, Michigan area.

I am Emma's Grandaughter. I never got to know Frank. My father was Robert Borkovetz Jr. who just passed away a year ago in May, 2007. As a child we would go to Oconto to visit my Aunt Carrie, and even attended her military funeral. I don't believe the family was able to reach their family when my father passed away. I would love to exchange more about the family. I am sure that my Grandmother kept wonderful records and photos. She has the history well documented. Please let me know how we could help.

They arrived from Bohemia after 1876. By 1882, I believe the family was in the Oconto area. I am trying to identify their place of arrival in WI and their children's names. I know they had a son Joseph (b. 1853/1860 married 1889 barbara RABAS) and perhaps John, James, Filomena, Anna, Peter. Wife Anna nee JICHA died in 1891 and I believe John remarried. Because of the common first names, am having some problems distinguishing family members as their are other Mareks.

Thanks for any help or direction.
Karla

I have a Texas Marek, or some of them I guess, depending on how you look at it, in my family. My great grandmothers grandfather was John Marek, b.4/1844, d. 12/2/1912. He was married to Anna Vojtek and they came over about 1877 through Galveston. They had several children, but I can't think of their names at the moment. Unfortunately I know nothing of his Marek family before coming to the US, and I have only partial names for her. Good luck in your searches.

Re: Tammy Jane Baker

I see a couple of problems with Rosamond Josephine Marek being the daughter of Raymond Joe Marek and Vlasta Louise Marek. Vlasta would have been 47 when Rosemond was born and Raymond would have been dead for almost 9 years. If it is just a typo with the numbers, ... But if not, then Rosamond would have been only 14 when Tammy was born - perhaps they were not yet married and the child was listed under her mother's maiden name at that time. I am not sure as to how young you can be to marry in Texas. They either may have been out of state to marry - or to deliver the child. Just some thoughts

Could she legally have gotten married in Texas at age 13 or 14? I think in Wisconsin in the late 70's you had to be at least 16, though the states vary as to their statutes. Some states only requre a 3 day residency to get married. If not, perhaps the eloped or the baby was listed with her maiden name until they were married. Does the book list a marriage date for the couple?

Obviously, so did I. Have you considered whether she may have been born in a different state - if they lived near a border - or if they may have adopted. Sometimes those records not being available at birth are indexed differently. Just ideas. Best of Luck.
