Loretta Reid is looking for information on Mike Marin who was reportedly born 15 August 1884 in Pennsylvania. He was registered for the WWI draft in Los Angeles, California. He married Elsie Mae Vanallen and had a son, Marcus F. Marin. In the 1930 census Elsie is listed as widowed. She died later and Marcus was put up for adoption. She is trying to find out any information on this family of Mike Marin's. We realize Mike was probably a nickname. If you know anything about him, or his parents, etc, please respond here.

If your ancestor ggrandfathers name was Charles Marin,you may be better directed to Quebec (Lower Canada 1772-1867) and to the Rimouski area (Gaspe). That is where my Marin line originated on this continent.
The Ontario reference could be a branch that emmigrated to the Timmins or Ganaraska Area as loggers and lumberjacks.

Funeral Service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Columbus Junction. The Rev. Mark Anderson will officiate. Casket bearers are her grandchildren. Burial will be at the Conesville Cemetery.

Mrs. Marin was born June 30, 1941, in Del Rio, Texas, the daughter of Melchor A. and Delfina G. Garcia Ramos. She married Humberto B. Marin on Sept. 22, 1961, in Muscatine.

She had worked at Louis Rich Foods turkey processing facility in West Liberty for 10 years.

She was a Muscatine County resident since 1961 and had attended the Church of the Living Water, Muscatine. She enjoyed taking care of her family.

Survivors include four children, Maria G. Marin and Juan Moreno of Columbus Junction, Socorro M. Roman Romero and husband Hector of Conesville, Pat R. Marin and wife Theresa of Fredonia and Humberto R. 'Max' Marin Jr. and Sylvia of San Antonio, Texas; four brothers, Melchor Ramos and wife Kathy of Columbus Junction, Raul Ramos and wife Lourdes, Ernest Ramos and Adrian Ramos and wife Amalia, all of Del Rio; and 11 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her ex-husband, Humberto, in July 2002.

My mother is a Marin and she told me that She had family in France and their last name was Dumas. When they were on the boat comming to Canada they were called Dumas du Marin and when they reached Canada they changed their name to Marin. I have no idea when this would have taken place. Peter Brendy Marin, age 21, of Fairview Township, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, December 18, 2008. He was born March 29, 1987, in Erie, son of Dennis R. and Cathy B. Marin. He graduated in 2005 from Cathedral Preparatory School, and attended Mercyhurst College and Gannon University. Since the age of sixteen, his life was a profile in courage battling osteosarcoma.
After numerous surgeries and chemotherapies, rarely did he complain. He was deeply thankful for his close, supportive classmates from Prep, and those high school friends from Fairview; he wishes all of them many years of happiness. He was deeply thankful for the support and encouragement of the many employees and members of Lake Shore Country Club, where he worked for several summers, and was deeply thankful for the medical personnel and caseworkers at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, and also other local physicians. Peter is predeceased by grandparents, John C. and Rose Mary Marin, and Joseph T. and Margaret Helen Ruckman Brendy.
In addition to his parents,
he is survived by his brother, Andrew J. Marin of University Heights, Ohio; his uncles, John R. Marin of Charlotte, North Carolina, and William Okel of Woodbridge, Illinois; his aunt, Marcia Mercer of Coshocton, Ohio;
and several cousins.
Friends may call Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brugger Home for Funerals, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard. Services will be held there Tuesday at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Jude the Apostle Church at 10 o’clock. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Regarding Merton Field Marin. I recently found some information about him that made the connection with my Newton family. His father was Randolph Cornell Newton who was married to Olive Merton. They soon divorced, and she remarried to George (Gaston) Marin. I don't know if an official adoption took place, but none-the-less, the children of the Newton-Merton union took the Marin last
name.

I have further information on the Mertons, a little on Marin, and some more on Randolph Newton. He's been a bit of a black sheep, and had disappeared from the family 'telegraph'. Rumors of him and his family were out there, somewhere, but it seems everyone had it wrong!

I'd love to share info on this branch, and catch up with some long lost kin.

My grandfhater José Marín was from Michoacan but he lived in Santa Lucia, Durango...he was married with Visitación Albarran....this small town is 2 hours away from Santiago Papasquiaro...

Most names in Latin America are generally Adaluz Castillian. This is do to the fact that the Spanish Government during colonial times regulated shipping to and from the colonies through Cadiz. This is were most of the colonial sailors and soldiers came from. Hence the popualrity of surnames like Perez, Gomez, Garcia, etc... Surnames like Marin, Corretjer, Reus, Caas, Bentencourt, Gaudi are Catalonian (and also found in Southern France)

It's has it's Latin roots, most recently in history it's been a Franco-Iberian (more French than Spanish) surname, meaning "Sailor".

Hello Samantha. My great grandmother was Charlotta Marin (b. 1836) who was the daughter of Jon Johnson Marin (b. 1805) and Pigan Stina Jonsdotter (b. 1804). All were born in Agunnaryd, Kronoberg, Smaland, Sweden. I have more generations but only direct ones. Charlotta's brothers & sisters were John (Johannes), Peter Ellman, Ingrid, Ulrika, Carl, Johan, Otto, Magadelena. They were all born in Sweden. Charlotta Marin married A. Peter Jacobsson Wedin in 1857 in Agunnaryd. They all came to Illinois in about 1870.

I am researching Margaret Martin and sibling William. They migrated from TN to TX. Margaret married F. LaFon in Henry County TN. I believe the family may have migrated from NC to TN prior to 1840. William was listed as a house builder on the 1880 census in TX. I have not found William on another census poll. I would be interested in any Martin's in Weakley or Henry County TN or adjoining counties in 1850 especially those who may have migrated to TX.

No direct connections from Missouri that I have found, but my grandfather Earnest Auntied Marin was born in Frenchville, Pa in 1881. His father - Daniel and grandfather - Lawrence were from Alsace also. A town named Saar-Warden in western France in 1850. The name does not seem to be common in France so there may be connections back in that time. Do you have any further information on the Alsace Marins or are you interested in exchanging information to see if a connection exists here in USA? I have other marin names from the Frenchville area but have no idea where this may lead.

David, I don't know if this is of any help but our line of Marin's came from the Counties of Wicklow & Kildare, Ireland to Canada about 1836. I have also found other Marin's in both England & Ireland.

My great-grandfather was born in Sarego, Vicenza, Italy, at 1/Oct/1882. His parents were Giuliano Marin (son of Tomaso and Lucia Sinic(c)o) and Angela Manfrin (Lonigo, 8/Oct/1849). Had two brothers: Emilio 22/May/1880 and Michelangelo 29/Apr/1885.

Felix Reyes Marin died in Woodland Sunday, Oct. 10 at age 46.

Mr. Marin was born Nov. 20, 1957 in Esparto and had been a Yolo County resident all his life. He was a 1975 graduate of Esparto High School and worked in the automotive repair field as a mechanic.

Survivors include Mr. Marin's mother, Guadalupe Marin of Esparto; his son, Michael Benitez of Woodland; his sisters, Epimenia Galvan and Sara Stotts, both of Esparto, Josephine Garcia of Madison and Trinidad Matta of Marysville; his brothers, Robert Marin and his wife Julia and Ben Marin and his wife Sophie, all of Woodland, Don Marin and his wife Lorrie and Richard Marin, all of Esparto; his aunts, Pascuala Fernandez, Berna Plarisan, and Lorenza Umbay, all of Madison; his niece, Rebecca Quijano of Woodland as well as numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Guadalupe Marin.

Memorials in Mr. Marin's name may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Services: A celebration of life is scheduled for noon Wednesday, Oct. 13 at his mother's home, 26333 Grafton St., Esparto. Evergreen Funeral Services of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.

My great-grandmother was Isabel Marin Rivera- born around 1908 in Jayuya, P.R. Her mother was Julia Rivera, who married Emilio Marin about 1905. Isabel had 4 sisters, Maria "Gia", Celia, Carmen, Florentina (known as Quinta) and Felicita.

Hey there Glenda! I think we may have a whole family in common!! After reading your message about the Marins of French descent it made alot of loose ends come together for me. I believe I am possibly the Grandson of your Grandfathers Brother Joseph who would be my Dad's Dad.
I have only begun to do this so you must forgive my enthusiasm but when you wrote of the two spinster sisters in Florida I became quite excited because my Dad told me of them also when I was little and it was so long ago that my brother and I had forgotten their names until you mentioned the nick name of "Chico" that I do remember! What I have found out going back in time is that Joseph H.(Helard)Marin lived in St. Agatha,Aroostook,Maine and was born May 22nd, 1892. His Father was Helard Marin and his Mothers name was Rachel according to his IGI (international geneology index) record or it possibly may be Rebecca. I am only that far at this point. Joseph had a son, Percy Ralph, who was my Dad. My name is Kim Ralph and my Brothers name is Kevin Bruce. Now, if this isn't enough to tantalize your curiosity. I may have other leads as to my Grand Mothers name because somehow it might be Rebecca. My Dad told me that My Great Aunts lived in Plant city Florida, does that ring any bells, and I wonder if you might know of anything more concerning them. So, as I understand then, your Dad's Father was my Great Uncle as for you Joseph H. would be. They had the two sisters that were in Chicago then went to Florida where they had an orange grove.
