Now Markle researchers (all spelling variations) can quickly and easily prove through y-DNA testing whether their family lines link to 1710 Palatine immigrant Friederich Merckel of Ulster Co., NY. Test results have recently been recorded to establish a benchmark profile that will be matched by all direct male descendants in Friederich's line. Tests for descendants of other Merckel patriarchs are now in process with results to be announced as additional samples are received.

Men who carry the Markle surname are urged to participate in at least a 37-marker y-DNA test. Women who have Markles in their family history can prove the link by locating a male Markle relative (brother, uncle, or even a distant cousin) to test.
