They discussed the fact that Elizabeth Hawkins is not Mordecai's wife - Eliza J. Lines published in 1902 that his wife was Elizabeth Hawkins but upon further research it was determined it was an error.

Elizabeth Voxien (or Voxieu) appears as a witness to a land deed in which the name was spelled out very carefully as the recorder probably had never written the name before.

The article then goes on to discuss Elizabeth in what little detail that is know about her.

William Edward Marks B: 1833 in Virginia or Tennessee. He married Matilda Shaddock in 1858 and died in Camden, Arkansas in 1869. The 1860 cencus (Arkansas)has Him listed as W. E. Marks (28) with his wife and son Joseph(2). Also a Thos S Marks(26)amd a S Kepser (40). Does anyone have information on Him or his parents?

Supposedly, Stephen Preble (b. 1778?) had a father who was a ship's captain,and who died at sea when Steve was a boy. His mother then married into the Marks family (maybe William Marks b. 1744 Warren Mass.?) and his name was changed to Stephen Marks. One of Stephen's many "Marks" children, Galen O. (b. 1810?), changed his name back to Preble when he grew up. He became known as Preston Preble. He married Hannah Gott.
Can anyone one confirm this story, or add missing details?

I'm leaving for Ireland in Sept '09--going to County Antrim (Faranacushog)to seek further information on James Mark b. 12 Oct 1812. Also going to County Armagh (Armagh) to find any further info on Ann Grayson b.29 Apr 1827. They married in Farancushog on 12 Oct 1843. Any helps/hints/etc. on this quest would certainly be appreciated as I've never been there before. Also, James was a Presbyterian--where would these records be found since the Roman Catholic Church held most of the information? I know that he and some of his siblings immigrated to East Hawksbury, Canada.I have the genealogical information down to my generation but nothing previously back from James Mark.

DoD Identifies Army Casualties

The Department of Defense announced today the death of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. They died Aug. 28 in Rashid, Iraq, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked their vehicle with an explosively formed penetrator. Both Soldiers were assigned to the 41st Special Troops Battalion, 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the Oregon Army National Guard in Portland.

C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.

In accordance with his wishes, his body has been donated to the University of Iowa Medical School.

The Rev. Tim Leathers will officiate.

Following the services, there will be a gathering at the Muscatine American Legion.

Mr. Marks was born Sept. 29, 1941, in Muscatine, the son of Leslie and Dorothy (Everett) Marks.

He married LaRue Reimers on Oct. 14, 1967, in Muscatine.

He enjoyed going to the casino, fishing, camping and hunting, but above all, he loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed the time he spent with them.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by two daughters, Gina Haughney and Patty Marks of Wilton; five grandchildren, Shannon Tigrett of Branson, Mo., Kimberly Tigrett of West Branch, Jessica Tigrett of Wilton, Brittney Montagna of Wilton and Shawn Haughney of Atlanta, Ga.; two great-granddaughters, Brooklyn and Kylie Wade of Branson, Mo.; four sisters, JoAnne Askam and her husband, Leo, of Muscatine, Frances Duggan and her husband, Dick, of Muscatine, Patricia Johnston and Dean Bohlen of Danville, Iowa, and Theresa Marks-Turkington and her husband, Breck Turkington, of Norman, Okla.; three brothers, Lyle Marks and his wife, Susie, of Springfield, Mo., Steve Marks and Pam Ramer of Muscatine and Gene Marks and his wife, Marsha, of Farmington, Mo.; and his former wife and lifetime friend, LaRue Cole of Wilton.

Mrs. Marks was born April 5, 1926, in Marion, the daughter of John F. and Pearl McCalla Bailey.

She attended Nelson Street Wesleyan Church and was very active in various functions at the Martin Boots Apartments.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Davis and husband Jack of Lafontaine; a son, Phillip A. Marks and wife Sheila of Muscatine; four grandchildren, Regina Miller of Wabash, Jack Davis of Lafontaine and Elizabeth and Cameron Marks, both of Muscatine; and three great-grandchildren, Morgan and Zach Miller and Makenzie Davis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, June Korporal and Shelby Bailey.

Survivors include a nephew, Richard Andersen and his wife, Sondra, of Muscatine; one niece-in-law, Janice Andersen, of Batavia, Ill.; two great-nephews, Barry Andersen of Roscoe, Ill. and Randall Anderson; and two great-nieces Brenda Stineman of Homer, Ill. and Jennifer Andersen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and a brother.

I have been contacted by someone else as they also have a William Marks in the mid 1800's in Charleville but not my William, just wondering if maybe it could be someone of yours. My great, great grandfather Thomas Spurway Marks was born in Clayhidon, Devon, abt 1846, his wife was Elizabeth & their children were Sarah born abt 1873, Harry (or Henry) born abt 1874, William born abt 1875, John born abt 1879 (married Evelina), Fred born abt 1881, Minnie born abt 1882, James Clifford born abt 1884, Tom (my Grandfather) born abt 1885 & Samuel born abt 1887. All the children were born in North Petherton. I believe my ggg grandfathers name was also Thomas born abt 1810 in Clayhidon, but have not been able to track him.

Sarah Frances Marks was nicknamed Fanny. Silas real name is Ernest McCue Marks and he married Ella Francis Gallihugh. Silas's youngest son Fred Marks died July 27, 2009 at the age of 60. Sarah is my great great aunt.

Do anyone have more info about this person…Lillian H marks, born 1911 in Wisconsin, USA. She was married about 1927, and her surname after she was married was Hitchcock. I don’t know her husband first name. She got at least two sons, Donald H Hitchcock and Harold L Hitchcock. In 1930 she lived in Rockford, Winnebago, Illinois. Her parents name was Henry Marks and Lena S Marks.

I am afraid I am not going to be much help here. Most records appear to agree with Voixen or Voisen. The interesting thing is that one of the children married a Hawkins. I always thought that there may have been a mixup at that point.

He married Jane Hilliar abt !830,Somerset England.They had 12 children, 5 of them came to Australia about 1860. One of these Augustus Marks born 1840 was my grandfather. I would like to find the ancestors of John and Jane. I have info on the family in Australia.

I am trying to find the Ancectors of John Marks born1808 Langford Somerset, Died5 March 1853 Somerset. He married Jane Hilliar abt 1830 Somerset. They had 12 children between1831-1853, 5 of them coming to Australia abt 1850-1860. Most of the others stayed in Somerset. I have most of the decendants but can get no further back than John who was my GGfather

Hi All.

I would really appreciate your help.

I am looking for William John Marks who was born in 1851 in Bath, Somerset. He was alledged to have been at his sons wedding in Fort William in 1913 however i would love to have some confirmation that he did travel to Canada. I wonder if anybody could possibly look at the passenger lists and see if he did go to Canada. His wife was Eliza.

Also i am looking for his son John marks b. 1876 who also immigrated to Canada, supposedly with his brother George William Marks. George William Marks travelled on the 04/10/1911 to Nova Scotia on a ship named Canada. Oral history has told us that George and John were on the same boat, would somebody be so kind as to look this up for me.

Hi, my Great Aunt Sarah Marks was born in Bridgwater, Somerset in 1853. I haven't yet been able to trace who she married. She worked as a General Domestic Servant for Mr & Mrs. Francis James Merson (farmer) on the Boomer Farm House in North Petherton in Somersetshire when she was 18. Her father was Thomas, mother was Elizabeth. Brothers Harry, william, John, Fred, James, Tom & Samuel. Sister Minnie. That's all I have found so far. Hope this helps some.

According to the marriage registration for George (he married Ida Eleanor Chandler), one of the witnesses was William John Marks of Fort William. George's mother is listed as Elizabeth Towers.

In 1985, my mother, Anita Sue MARKS Reeves, visited her brother James Nicholas MARKS and her mother Adeline Wytona Berry MARKS in Kodiak, Alaska. James had previously recieved a letter there from a woman who claimed that Thomas Vasco MARKS may have been her biological father. James did not respond to her quickly, and over time, the letter was lost. This unknown woman indicated that she would understand if she received no response, but even this many years later, we would still like to make contact with her. I find it interesting that the 1900 city listing for Bristol, CT, shows a Polly (nickname for Mary) Marks, widow of a Seneca. Also 1880 census for Sharon, CT, shows a Seneca Marks, age 42; Mary Marks, age 43; daughter Hattie Marks, age 10; and a stepson George Bard, age 21. This same Seneca, age 23, was in 1860 census in North East, Dutchess, NY with a family of Odell. Included among them was a Seneca Odell. 1910 census shows the younger Seneca Marks living in North East, Dutchess, NY. (perhaps inherited family land?)

I have been working on the family of Peter A. Walradt who resided in Cherry Valley in the early 1800's and have wondered if his spouse, Elizabeth, may have been a Marks. Their first child born ca. 1808 was named Mark. During that time period the given name Mark was quite uncommon, however naming a child the mother's maiden name seemed quite common. In your searches have you come across any probate records, etc. from those families with a daughter Elizabeth who may be a possibility? Thank you, so much, for your time and interest. Did you ever find more information about Wolf? He is my great great grandfather. Today we had the unveiling for the stone for my grandfathers' grave and our cousins came over. One of them had a printout of the ancestry of Wolf Marks. I don't have it on the computer yet, but I am going to start updating it and once I get it online I would be happy to send you what I have.

My ancestor was August Gustav MARKS born 1858 and he died in 1924. He came from Port Augusta South Australia. I do not know when he came to South Australia but if it is the same August I would like to know more about him if you have any info.
