Adolwando M. Marques

Looking for family of Adolwando M. Marques (born August 7, 1930s in Brazil). He has a brother named Edmilson (sp?), another named Hilton, another brother and two sisters. In the States, he went by "Marques." He married Carolyn Hale in West Virginia. They had two sons - Hilton Gregory Marques and Rodney Marques. Adolwando passed away about 1975 while on a work trip in the Ivory Coast, Africa; Rodney Marques passed away about 1986; and Carolyn Hale passed away about 1997.

Hilton Marques now lives in Texas, is married, and has 2 sons. With all his immediate family gone, we're having trouble tracing his family back to Brazil. We currently have no contacts whatsoever on that side of the family.

If anyone can help, please contact me at pamms4@gmail.com.

Thank you!

Pam and Hilton Marques

Hi Lucille,

I can give you lots of information on the Chenette/Comeau family. Which child of Bertha is your husband related to? As I said earlier, I know Bertha had 11 children. I only met a couple of them and only know the names of two or three. Eventhough they are my first cousin's I am at the younger end of the family so we are a couple of generations apart. They were adults when I was still a very little kid. If you like contact me at cshenette@lycos.com, and I'll give you my home e-mail address from there. I don't like to give it out on rootsweb because I'm afraid of ending up on yet another junk e-mail list.

Nice to hear from you.

Cindy

Thank you for answering. Yes, Bertha was my husband's grandmother. I only met her once, back in 1988. I am trying to find out about the family. I am interested in finding out whatever I can. I have a copy of her social security application, so I know her parents were Frank Chenette and her mother was Marie Comeau (Corneau?). Any thing that you could help with would be very much appreciated.

Sorry it's taken so long for me to respond to your inquiry. I work on genealogy on an irregular basis and just noticed your message.

Bertha Marques/Marquis from Warwick, RI was my father's older sister. She died in 1991 and her husband died in the 1970s, so I guess she is the one you are looking for. I met her a number of times but didn't know her well. Did you say she was your husband's grandmother? I'd be happy to share what I know.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Cindy

She was sister to your Annette, whom I met many years ago when I was very, very young.
You are the first contact I've been able to make with the Marques part of my family. Thank you so much for your reponse. I am unable to find the names of Scott's parents. Do you have that info.? Also, would like to verify dates I've gathered here and there. Also, have some verbal history that my Mom shared with me if you are interested in that. I tried to email you at the address shown on the board @msn.com; but for some reason, it kept bouncing back. Maybe you can email me direct. I must be doing something wrong????
Thanks again, Janet

Thanks a lot for that info. I don't have any other info on the Marques name. I'm searching my roots and this info will surely help. I had a hunch that the name originated in Portugal from looking at the message board. By the way, what is your name and where are you from? I'm from a small town in South Texas. Another question, did the name originaly end with a Z?

Joseph Marques (father of Maria Marques) had a brother named Manuel Marques plus 4 other brothers, Freddie, Edward, Anthony (Tony) & Moses. The dates are correct and the departure & eventual arrival point. All this info has to be connected. Could Manuel Marques the oldest, have come to Hawaii with his brothers? or sent for them later. I feel that Honokaa is the key. With both of them in the same city, working for the same company, coming from Maderia, Portugal about the same time there must be a connection. Nora's Mother Marie Marques father is Joseph Marques. It is all in one large circle. Sorry I soud confused.

Last year for our 36th anniversary Dennis & I visited Honokaa. My mother in law still has cousins living there. She too us to the house Nora was born in in 1912. Then she took us to the little store that Nora & all the kids used to visit. There we met with several Marques, Jacintho, and Gonsalves. (The Gonsalves relatives are related to my mothers family, this is odd. Could be that Dennis & I have cousins that are married, too! Since they all lived in this little town in Hawaii at one point. We plan to go back to Honokaa and do some more research. Could not do so then since we were short on time and were just meeting new people. Very few computers in that area. No email... I am composing a question letter to try to get more info. Are you in Hawaii?

Could your Manuel Marques be related to Joseph Marques from Madera, Portugal. Joseph was married to Mary Sipriano and had a daughter Marie Marques. She married Manuel Jacinth-Rezentez (later changed to Jacintho). The dates seem about right and Manuel Jacinto worked for the Sugar Plantation in Honokaa. The information seems to be to close not to be related.

Re: Joaquin Marques of RI

I am also an ever-seaching Marques detective. My grandfather, Manuel Marques, was reportedly born in Villa Franca, Portugal. No records exist to prove his exact birthdate -they were lost to a fire in the old country-but ,for legal purposes ,he claimed birth in the early months of 1894. When he came to the states, he lived and for a short time in Newport,RI where he worked as a fisherman of some sort. He spent the rest of his life in Massachusetts.Family knowledge places him into a family of six siblings, one of whom was Joseph. This uncle attended, in 1947, the wedding of Manuel's son, and I've just noticed in the guest book that Joseph called himself "Joaquim" Marques. Could this man be the same one for whom you are searching? Secondly, Manuel Marques and his wife had a daughter, born in 1920, whom they named Mary Louisa Marques. Mary ,unfortunately, lost her life in infancy. If you think these name correlations are worth further discussion, contact me and I will share whatever is pertinent.

The family of Marquez were named as closest of kin on several of my mother's relatives. For sure my gggm who died in 1920 in RI had a Joaquin was listed as kin #2. My gm also had a Marques named Louisa as kin #2. This was in 1927. Louisa was married to Gilbert Marques, but I don't know her maiden name. At one point I though Marr was short for Marques, but I can trace Marr back farther and it is still Marr.
Louisa, Joaquin and harry Marques are also listed for other Marrs, but I am not usre they are related, but it would appear they might be with Joaquin and louisa as closest kin.
I have an ancestor Joachim Machado Marquez from Machico, Madeira, Portugal. He married Virginia de Oliveira Silva, and had two sons, Charles and Francisco Leonel Marquez b.1881. Francisco married Virginia Agatha Marques, daughter of Joseph and Mary Marques. It would be very interesting to obtain more information about them.
Thanks
MH
