seeking information as to the parents and ancestors and nationality of John Mars. b. 31 May 1831 or 1830.

He married Mary Medora Osborne, daughter of David S Osborne and Clarissa Murray They all settled in the counties just west of Terra Haute in Illinois

Census indicates that John Mars parents were born in Pennsyvania. I have reason to believe that his father was William Mars (Marrs?) an original founder of Terra Haute

Mary died and he married a Jane Kimber of England. All the family children to my knowledge were by Mary.

Seeking information on the family of Clarissa Murray (b. Utica NY) as well.

If anyone has any information on this family at all, please contact me.

Hello, I am the g.g.g.grandniece of Mary Slater-Greer, who married James Greer in Templemore, Londonderry, Ireland 5/22/1856. They came over with their four sons Thomas, John, Moses, and Robert. I have found John and Robert in New Brunswick, Canada with their families, and one of Robert's decendents has told me that she HEARD that Thomas went to Montana. (which is a surprise to me I assure you!)

His brother John supposedly went to Ontario, but I have not found any info on that at all! Interesting thing though....He died (not sure how) 9/30/1907, but his only daughter Lily Mae was born the following Feb. So his wife, Martha Lillian Oliver must have been pregnant when he died.

So I have Robert and John in Canada, but thought Thomas married Annie Saunders and had a whole couple of generations in Canada....but this info is similar, so similar! How many families from Ireland settle in Montana with brothers named Thomas and MOSES of all the names? Would love if you have more info that might link us. Will send you any info you need.

Oh, and there was a tenative link with Moses being married to a woman named Emma Young on 9/2/1890 in Elizabethtown Township, Ontario.

What do you make of all this? Can you find a connection to New Brunswick, Canada?

Cheers,
Joy
Boston,MA
Dear Susan,
The reason I ask is because the Lydia Mars I am looking for would be my Great Aunt. She was born in Finland and the year was approximately 1893. She came here with my Great-Grandma Hanna and it appears she was born out of wedlock. All I know of her is that she did not come to MN with my great grandma (who remarried in Fitchburg, MA in 1915.) Her existence was kept secret because of the fact she was out of wedlock. I have no luck finding where she was after if she ever left MA but I think I have seen some census' with her as a servant. It would be terrific if it was the same woman. Do you know when your grandma died and how old she was? I am crossing my fingers that we can help eachother.

I am trying to find more info on my Mars line. I know my great grandfather was Charles William Mars(B. May 1895) who married Gertrude Gussie Hagan(b.1898) I have been told he was born on an Indian reservation near or in Illinois. He lived most of his life in Township, IL, or in McHenry, IL.
Mars from Canada to Michigan ?

Anyone researching Mars family from Canada and Detroit,MI.
My gr-grand father William L.Mars b:March 22,1855 Detroit,MI
or may have been born in Canada ? He some times went by the name of Louis N.Mars (mainly in Oswego,NY)do not know why.
Parents were John Mars and Adda Wallett no dates or where they were born. A couple of census records list William as beening born in N.Dakota. He married Mary McNamara about 1887-88 in Utica,NY. He lived in Utica,NY for awhile then Buffalo,NY also for awhile in Oswego,NY then back to Buffalo,NY were he died on June 6,1940. They had 13 children
first one born Aug.9,1888. Ihave a picture from 1910 in Oswego,NY of the whole family. Except the first child had died by then. This is a very big brick wall.Hard name to trace.Anyone know of a researcher in the Detroit,MI area that is for hire. That may be the only to get through the brick wall.I don't have much info, but anyones welcome to it if there're interested. I could even scan the family photo and email it.

Norm Hamilton
Lancaster,NY

This article appeared in the MANASSAS JOURNAL MESSENGER of Manassas, Prince William County, Virginia, on 2 November 1939 (page 1):

DOUBLE WEDDING

A double wedding was performed in Manassas Saturday when two gentlemen from Merchantville, N. J., were married to two ladies from Camden, N. J. The ceremony was performed by Mr. Claude Hixson.

The couples were Mr. Edward Thomas Mars and Miss Agnes Rosalie Walter and Mr. Warren White Smith, and Miss Julia Victoria Bender.

They were charming couples and it is regrettable that they will make their homes so far away.
Gilbert Mars (Marrs) b. ca. 1805 N.C. , d. bef 1880, TX

I've hit a dead-end searching for information concerning Gilbert Mars (Marrs, etc., depending on handwriting) Born in N.C. abt. 1805, married Sarah ? . Moved to Alabama bef. 1840, (where Census shows a Gilbert Mars in Chambers Co.)He moved to Titus (now Morris) County, TX bef. 1860. Census show his father born in VA.
Children included: Nathan G., William, Dorsey, John H., Sarah, Thomas, and Alonzo (my gg grandfather). John H. and Alonzo married 2 sisters, Ann and Elizabeth Terrell.
Gilbert's children were all born in either NC or AL and moved to Texas with Gilbert and Sarah. Many of their descendents still reside in Northeast TX.
It's hard to say how Gilbert would've spelled his surname as it varies so widely, but my g-grandfather spelled our name "Mars"

Thanks,
Michael Mars

Desperately seeking Lydia Mars

I am looking for a Lydia Mars who is believed to be my Great Aunt, however she has never been known to our family. In tracing my family history I found that my g-grandma Hanna Mars came from Finland (Nov 3, 1903) and brought along a girl named Lydia Mars whom was 11 at the time. Long lost letters that were read by snooping children confirmed that she wrote my g-grandma. This is believed to be her daughter she may have had out of wedlock before leaving Finland. I am trying to figure out what ever happened to her and I want to be able to put her in my family tree. She was born about 1893 in Finland and where she went after moving to Fitchburg, MA is unknown. I don't know if she married or what. If there is any one with a Mars family connnected to Vimpeli, Finland or Fitchburg, MA and you could maybe help me, Please, Please do. My usual email is jnbsajdak@juno.com.
Thank you so much.

She came to Boston in 1903 with my Great-Grandmother Johanna Juhonsytar Mars. I know that she was a servant to a physician by the name of Cornelius Geary in 1930 and that she died in 1943. If there is anyone who knows anything about her I would love to find out more. JNBSAJDAK@JUNO.COM
