Classification: Query
Surnames: FRICKE, LEAS, LUECK, MARTH, SCHOLLE, SCHOLLIE, VON HOLTEN
Greetings and welcome to the MARTH message board and mailing list. I just took on the role of administrator for both, and wanted to introduce myself and hopefully generate some renewed interest in our MARTH research!
First of all, the "gateway" function has been enabled so that postings to the message board are automatically sent to the MARTH-L mailing list. See http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/surname/m/marth.html for more information about the mailing list.
To give you some background, my interest in the MARTH family has been very recent. My mother was adopted from an orphanage as a young girl, and knew nothing of her biological family for 65 years. We began doing some research a few years ago, and finally made several big breakthroughs last year. She was recently able to meet and spend time with an older brother and sister that she never knew existed. It was a wonderful experience!
We learned that we are descendants of Frank Herman MARTH (1857 - 1937), who was born in Germany and immigrated to the US, settled in Lafayette County, Missouri, and married Mathilde Auguste Caroline LUECK (1863 - 1930) in 1887. A good amount of information exists on this family, which includes descendants with the following surnames: FRICKE, LEAS, SCHOLLE / SCHOLLIE, and VON HOLTEN. I would definitely enjoy hearing from others with connections to this family.
Best wishes, and happy digging!
