Foster A. Marth, a retired City of Tonawanda police officer, died Tuesday in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda. He was 81.

Born in North Tonawanda, he was the son of Frederick Marth and Pauline Bushover. He served in the Navy during World War II and in the Marine Corps in the Korean War. He was awarded a Purple Heart.

Mr. Marth earned a degree in police science from Erie County Technical Institute and served as a police officer in the City of Tonawanda for 25 years. He retired as a lieutenant in 1979.

He retired from the Navy Reserve in 1985 as a master chief gunner's mate and served for several years with the state Division of Military and Naval Affairs with the rank of major.

He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ; Frontiersmen Post 7545, Veterans of Foreign Wars; the Chief Petty Officers Club in Buffalo; and the Fleet Reserve Association.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Marjory Ohman Marth, and a son, Foster A.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the John O. Roth Funeral Home, 25 William St., City of Tonawanda.
