I recently found that my great grandmother Maria was born in Mulchi, Bern, Switzerland on May 26, 1863. Her parents were Bendicht Marti and Elizabeth Aeschlimann. Godfather was Freidich Marti. Her siblings (at least christened) were: Godfried b 1855, Anna Maria b 1856, Rudolf b 1858, Jean Philippe b 1859, Albrecht b 1860, Albertine b 1861, Karl b 1865, and Adolf b 1867.

I didn’t find a Caroline Marti in the records I was searching.

Anybody have any information on this family. I notice there postings about the family in this area several years ago. Are any of you still around?

I have more information on Maria Marti. Her name is Maria Margaritha Marti born May 26, 1863, christened Sept. 9, 1863 in Muelchi, Bern, Switzerland. Parents Bendicht Marti and Elisabeth Aeschlimann.

Anybody have any information on this family?

Sorry mk1171, I've been away from this board for awhile. I can't be of specific help with your great grandmother, but can help generally. In fact, I took my family to Kienberg last summer for a visit. I had also been there in 1976. For starters, I can tell you that Kienberg is quite a small village so there is a high likelihood that you and I are related. The Hurbi family lived in Kienberg for about 300 years and there are several other long lived families, the Belsers and Martis among them. Other common surnames are Fricker, Rippstein, Frei, Gubler, and Schmidli.

Because Kienberg is so small these families intermarried for centuries. All of the names mentioned above are in my ancestry there. Some several times. That's why I say it is likely that we are related.

On my last visit I also bought a coffe table book that one of the Rippsteins wrote about the history of Kienberg. It is filled with history about the village and goes into everything from religion, to town officials, education, business, family names, etc. It's written in German, but I can get the drift with the help of translators. Don't know if that helps but it gives you some background anyway.

Dear Cathy, Fred Marti and Margaret Rudloff are the great-grandparents of my husband, through their daughter (that you do not list in your post), Helen or Helene Marti. She was born Feb. 20,1907 or 1906 and died Feb.2004. She married a Reilly whose first name escapes me now. Grandma Helen's siblings also included a full sister named Flo who was given to childless relatives to raise and eventually moved to California, "where she drank herself to death". As I heard it the "girls" Helen, Jo, Marie and Jeanette, always thought of Flo as a cousin and only found much later that things were otherwise. Many secrets in this family. Grandma Helen had three children. Robert who died at about 2 years (as she described his death to me I think he choked on something he found on the floor); my father-in-law, Richard Reilly born 8/16/31, and Eleanor (Baum) born 1929. Richard has one child Michael P. Reilly, 03-10-1954 and he has no children. Eleanor has three children and two grandsons. Of the other children of GGm Rudloff, we would like to know more of Letha Warner. Did she have issue before she was killed? We knew that she was "the washtub murder", but have been unable to find ANY info, till today. Grandma Helen had a newspaper clipping, but I never saw it and now it is probably lost. Of Grandma Helen's other sibs, we don't really know about Robert; Jeanette never married and died relatively young, ie in her 60's of mesothelioma; but the other two girls lived into their 90s and either Jo or Marie had a daughter, Margie, who still lives in Old Monroe, MO. Margie had two or three children and "gave them away" in the late 50s/early 60s. Mike's parents considered taking in one of the boys,but couldn't afford to take more children and didn't want the interference from the Old Monroe people. Does Luis Felipe Marti have any descendants or relations known as Sylvio or Silvio? Sylvio married Enriquetta Conde. They travelled frequently between Cuba, Veracruz and New York. Sylvio's grandson, Carlos, when in Cuba (not sure where) would always visit the theatre that his grandfather built (don't know name or location--what if it was really his great grandfather???). It is believed that this group of Marti's was related to Jose Marti, the Cuban revolutionary. I'm desperate for any information beyond Sylvio. I am married to his Great-grandson and trying to find his roots!

My wifes' grandfather, Vincente Marti, was born in Cuba in 1883 and came to the USA sometime after her father was bron in 1921. We believe Vincente was related to the Cuban patriot Jose Marti. He bears a close resemblence to Jose. We have been building a ancestor tree, but we know very little about Vincente's parents and the practice of adding the mother's last name after the surname is causing a lot of confusion. Thus far, we have been unable to find records of Vincente's parents and grandparents. In my research, I found several other Marti's and other Cubans who went to northern Europe.

My grandfather Christofer Marti came to the U.S. from Switzerland when he was 6 years old with his mother. His father died before they came to the U.S. His father had gone to Switzerland from South America or Cuba. He was a slate miner when he met my great grand mother. My grandfather was one of 16 children. My Mothers maiden name was Maria Estraleta Marti and she was born in Green County Wisconsin in 1901. Please contact me soon as we are going to Wisconsin on the 27th of August 2008 and I plan on doing some record checking while there in the court house.

Looking for Marti from Cuba and Spain

Looking for information on Vincnete Marti married to Maria Gallo. He was born in Havana in about 1883. We believe he is a nephew to the cuban patriot, Jose Marti de Perez. We are not sure of his mother or father.

I'm sure of it thats your great grandmother's name was Susana Arroyo MartiNEZ, Arroyo being her father's surname and Martinez being her mother's. I've found in my own research that SS records sometimes cut off the last few characters of some names.

Chances are Juan's last name was Arroyo y Marti and not Marte. It's always reading some of these census records. So from what i see, Juan was born in 1870. My Concepcion Marti was born in 1879 which, if related, would probably make them cousins. One problem with that is Cocepcion's father was born in Spain and Juan's mother was born in Puerto Rico. It might mean his mother was born after the family immigrated but a guess is still a guess.

I found a Concepción Marti y Calderón de Dávila in a 1910 census, born in 1876 in Rio Piedras with a sister name Mercedes, like my Cocepcion. I'm hesitating to link her to my tree because she's listed as a widow with a daughter named Maria of 16 year old, both of which I've never heard of. It's pretty tantalizing though.

What information do you have on Juan's Mother? Also, I don't know if you are, but I wouldn't put my eggs in the belief that Juan M Arroyo Fonseca in the 1910 census is your Juan, as much as you might think so.

Susana Arroyo Marti is my great grandmother. She was married to Dionisio Alicea Ortiz. Parents are Juan Arroyo y Marte and Elena Martinez y Martinez De Arroyo. Hope this helps you a little.

I will like to know more about Concepcion Marti because my mom remember to heard from her grandfather Francisco Marti the name of Concepcion Marti. My mother says that this Concepcion Marti lived in Naguabo, PR and she beleives that she was the aunt of her grandfather. My great grandfather name is Francisco Marti and he came to PR from Spain. I just want to know if this Concepcion Marti lived in Naguabo, PR.

We are looking at the possibility that your Martin and Johann may be from the line of our Josef and Anna. However our Josef was born in Oberhoff, Aargau Canton, Switzerland.
We do know that others were born in Bern and that they had come out of Germany. We are currently working with a gentleman in Switzerland to connect our dots. We still have a country full of Frickers still in Switzerland too.
My blood lines came from the Marti, Fricker in Switzerland to mix with Williams and Jones in the US. Seems all I missed out on in the commmon name department is Smith....

I have Martin Fricker as the father of Johann Fricker; no birthdate or other information. Also, no info on Johann's mother.

My paternal grandmother was Bertha Fricker (b. August 31, 1880, m. April 26, 1909 in Kienberg to Theophil Hurbi b. October 27, 1882) who was the youngest (I think) daughter of Johann Fricker and Anna Maria Marti. I remember seeing a picture of the family showing around seven or eight daughters. Are you descended from one of the other daughters? Do you have info as to the other daughters' names?

Minnie Marti Staab (Milwaukee, Wisconsin)

I am looking for any information about Minnie Marti Staab. She was born around 1880 in either Iowa or Minnesota. She married Alvin Staab Jr. According to the 1920 Federal Census (City of Milwaukee, Milwaukee Co.), she was 39 years old; Alvin was 41. She was living on Bartlett Ave. with Alvin and their children: William (18), Myron (16), Alvin (14), Gertrude (12), Marion (9), Harold (7) and Jerome (3). At the time, Alvin was working as a street car conductor and son William was a repairman for a typewriter company.

I am most interested in finding information about Minnie prior to this date, 1920, e.g., where she was born, her parents names, information about siblings, etc. Any information, however, is appreciated.

Looking for descendants of Fritz Marti and Margaret Rudloff of the St. Louis, Missouri area. Margaret had an out-of-wedlock daughter, Letha Warner, before marrying Fritz Marti in the early 1900s. Their known children are Robert, Jeanette, Marie and Josephine.

I am looking for any information on my g grandmother, Maria (Mary) Marti. I have very little information on her. I know she was born in Switzerland in 1865, she came to the US in c. 1881. She married Jacob Kummer in Columbus City, Platte County, Nebraska on December 31, 1884. On the marriage license she is listed as Marie Martin. The license didn't list her parents names. Some references have listed her as Marie Marti, so there is some confusion as to her actual name. Jacob and she had children: Paul b 1887, Louise b 1888 (my grandmother), Bertha b 1890, John b 1892, Oscar b 1896 and Walter b 1900. The family moved to Rock County, Nebraska between 1900 & 1910. Marie died in 1926 in Rock County, Nebraska.
I have found a Marie Marti on a passenger list arriving in New York on August 19, 1881. I am unsure if this is my Marie.
Listed with her was a Caroline Marti age 15, so I am looking for anyone with any information on Caroline.

Elizabeth Marti-Mueller

I am seeking information about the family of my Grandmother who was born in what looks like Boginger, Bern, Switzerland. Her full name was Elizabeth Josephine Marti-Mueller and she was born 8 July 1883. Her death certificate lists her parents as John Marty (Marti) and Rosina Mueller. I have also seen her mother's name as Roseanna. She married my grandfather, Johann George Mohr (commonly called George) 16 May 1902. He was from Germany but I assume they married in Switzerland. They had one daughter, Rosa (or Rosanne) in Bern, Switzerland before they immigrated separately to the USA where they settled in Chicago. I found a mention of a Johannes Marti and an Anna Mueller marrying (16 Oct 1869), but do not know if these are the correct individuals.

The only other clue I had is from the Baptismal certificate of another Aunt, who was born in Chicago after her parents arrival. One of her sponsors was an Anthony Mueller. The above Johannes Marti and Anna Mueller are also listed as the parents of a child named Anthony.

I appreciate all help and suggestions.

My Great Grandmother, Concepcion Marti, may be of relation to your Valeriano Marti. She was born around 1879 in Puerto Rico. She married my Great Grandfather, Jose Mas y Nadal around 1912. From what I know, her father was from Galicia, Spain. Let me know if any of this rings a bell.

I discovered that Cocepcion Marti de Mas had a sister, Mercedes Marti de Lugo. I have yet to find her in any census though.
