Floyd Thomas Martini, son of William and Lullie E. (Houck) Martini, was born February 2, 1924 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He attended country school near Emmetsburg and Emmetsburg High School. Floyd was a carpenter for a local contractor and later farmed with his brothers. He had a dairy herd for several years.
On January 12, 1963 Floyd “Bud” married Margaret (Black) Smith. Bud and Margaret made their home in Cylinder and Emmetsburg for many years. They enjoyed gardening. Bud was in charge of the potatoes and sweet corn and Margaret cared for the rest of the garden.
Bud enjoyed doing woodworking and making lawn ornaments. He also loved fishing.
Bud died Sunday, October 8, 2006 at the Emmetsburg Care Center at the age of 82. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret on August 8, 2006; four brothers, Francis, William, Richard and Lloyd Martini; and a sister, Luella Foreman.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Gary Smith and his wife, Monica of Denver COO, Verlyn Smith and his wife, Dixie of Waterville, MN, Terry Smith and his wife, Kris of St. James, MN, Karen Cook and her husband, Howard of Nickerson, NE, Charlene Schuller and her husband, Monte of Ruthven, IA and Beverly Jensen and her husband, Jim of Charles City, IA; twenty seven grandchildren; sixty two great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; a brother, Eldon Martini of Emmetsburg, IA; three sisters, Vivian Slaven of Des Moines, IA, Alice Gibson of Havelock, IA and Ilene Fandel of Emmetsburg, IA; as well as many other relatives and friends.
