I am looking for maiden name of Jenny D. Martinson I have a Magnus Martinson in Hennepin in 1920 with a Jenny and in 1930 with a Jenny D. I believe they are the same and I am trying to find out her maiden name. Also in 1920 they have a son Lawrnce (sic) Martinson, who may possibly have been adopted, so he may have retaken his birth name at some point.

Lost in transition Maria Martinson (Sweden to St Paul in 1881) Or perished?

I have a Maria (Nilsdotter Martinsson)born 7/18/1880 in Tolanga Malmohus, Sweden - emigrated 4/30/1881. Daughter of Ingar Jonsdotter (same house) Also have Maria w/ Swedish port police before leaving Sweden 5/5/1881, Ingar Jonsdotter head of house (not sure why not father - whose also listed..) Anyway, the printout has her as 3 there, but it looks to be the same girl (maybe a typo?) She's bound for St. Paul

But then I lose her. I have Nels and her mom with her older brother in St Paul for decades, but she dissapears between Sweden and St Paul.

I am a Martinson from Canada. Apparently we do have relatives in Minnesota. My grandpa was ironically named Roy Martinson. He passed away in 95 of cancer. I just looked up in a history book that my great grandpa and grandma were Nels Magnus and Anna Martinson. They immigrated to Minneapolis from Sweden in 1902. They then came to Canada in 1912.

The several US federal censuses will give more important info about "Andrew" and "Emma". For example in the 1900 census Andrew lists that he came to the US 20 years earlier, Emma came to the US 18 years earlier, and they both list that they've been married for 18 years. Therefore it is doubtful that they were married before they left Norway - they might not even be from the same area of Norway. That 1900 census even gives more information about their birth dates.

A Norwegian man calling himself "Andrew" in America would be expected to have been born as either Anders or Andreas in Norway. The 1865 Norwegian census shows a possible list of about 22 young boys called Anders or Andreas Martinsen.

http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/articles.html
Hello, I am searcing for information on Andrew and Emma Martinson and family. Andrew was born around 1860 in Norway and Emma was born around 1862 in Norway. They migrated to Wisconsin, and then Idaho, where they gave birth to most of their children. Andrew died in King County, WA in 1943. They had 10 children, including an Alma Martinson, but records are scarce on all of the children. Andrew's father is believed to be Martin Martinson or Martin Swenson. Any information that anyone can share on this family would be greatly appreciated!

He was originally from Wisconsin. He was on a construction job in Minnesota around Paynesville at the time? They were never married.

I am looking for the ancestry of Hannah Martinson, born about 1835 in Haydon Bridge, Northumberland. Her father was William Martinson (also appears Martison). Hannah married John Goodwin September 5, 1857 at Kirkharle, Northumberland. They eventually moved to Caton, Lancashire. Any information or leads appreciated. Thank you!

I know that you will think this is strange but my name was Christine Hansen and I marrierd a Martinson. I have relatives that live in Bemidji Minnesota and for 30 years I lived 10 miles from Norway Iowa,my daughter still lives there. I know it's all just a coincidence but I thought you might get a chuckle about how small the world really is. Chrisofiowa1948@yahoo.com

Also, if he did become a naturalised British citizen, there is a Deaths at Sea register, which is held at Southport I think.
Kate
Sorry I am so slow. Can't find my information right now so am going purely by memory - and sometimes it isn't so good. I believe my gggrandmother's brother's name was either Ole or Olaf Seversen. He had a son by the name of Charlie Seversen. Charlie later, about 1920's, moved to South Dakota. My gggrandmother was Eli Syversdatter, or Ellen Seversen when it was Anglisized. She married Christian Oleson Opsal while still in Norway. Their daughter, Gunda Maria Olson married Christian Martinson in Vermillion @1875 and they lived at Lime Creek, Ne., near what is present day Maskell. Hope this helps you and you can help me. Thanks so much. Mary Ann <cemat@amigo.net>

Martinsons in Minnesota

Looking for Martinsons living in Hennepin County, Minnesota in 1909-1910. My father was told his last name was Martinson at birth and he was given up for adoption because his mother died at childbirth. Hoping to find any information leading me to relatives. He was told he had older siblings.
I found a Roy Martinson (age 5months) in a home for Orphans(in Minneapolis) in the 1910 census. But don't know where to go from there. Do not know if this is the Roy Martinson I am looking for. Have been told adoption records were not kept by the state before 1915 so I have hit a brick wall.

My father whose name is Roy was adopted by (officially?) Oren and Sadie Haskins who at the time lived in Stevens County.

Are there any Martinsons out there who know anything about a child given up at birth? My father's adopted father died when he was six and his mother when he was in his eary twenties. He had no other adopted siblings and was never succesful in finding any other information. I need to find my relatives to fulfill a promise to my dad who died many years ago.
Any information greatfully appreciated... Sharon Haskins Noble

My name is David (Maxwell) Martinson. I was born in South Wales 1952 and have Scandinavian connections. My great-grandfather was a Carl Gustav MartinSSon, who was a ship's carpenter. My family believe he was from either Norway or Denmark. He married my great-grandmother Hilda Minnie Webber (though there is no record of this marriage) and is believed to have died of yellow fever, at sea some time in the mid 1890's.
Should any of the above ring any bells, I'd be very pleased to hear from you, as all attempts to determine who my great-grandfather was have failed to date.
Hi,
I am looking for info on the Martinsons who left Sweden c.1905 and came to the US (possibly Illinois). There were 10+ siblings (possibly all brothers), youngest Bertil Martinson who later became an opera singer of some fame in Eurpoe. The story is that the father died in the US and the family had to return to Gothenburg penniless. Reportedly some of the brothers stayed in the US. Has anyone out there heard this story before???
Thanks!

My grandfather, David Martinson, born 1873, was Esthonian. He came to the United States in 1906 on the British ship SS Clan Galbraith, from Antwerp, Belgium. He was a ship's carpenter. His wife (my grandmother) was a Flemish-speaking Belgian. They lived for several years in Belgium, then Wales and England. One son was born in Belgium, one daughter was born in Wales, and my father was born in London, England. He worked for Cunard Lines and the most famous ship on which he sailed was the SS Mauretania. The family emigrated to the United States in 1911. My father changed the family surname to Martin when he became naturalized.

I have checked the website http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ and looked up Joseph Hall Martinson born 1885. I found...Joseph Hall Martinson born September quarter 1885, Hexham District, Volume 10b, page 307. You can use these details to order the birth certificate of Joseph Hall Martinson from...http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ and thereby learn who exactly Joseph's parents were.
I have looked at the 1891 census and found a Martinson family in HEDLEY Northumberland with son Joseph aged 6. His parents are Robert Martinson (born ~1845 Humshaugh, Northumberland) and Ann Martinson (born ~1844 Slaley, Northumberland). There are several other children. I think this family is most likely to be the one of interest to you.
In the 1901 census, the same family is recorded as Martenson, still living in Hedley.
I also used the FreeBMD website to look for marriages of Robert Martinson, and found a Robert Martinson marrying in December quarter 1865 in Newcastle T. District, Volume 10b, page 134.
The only Joseph Hall Martinson I can find was born ~1894 in Capheaton, Northumberland.
Good Luck with your research,
David Martinson
PS You and I are unlikely to be related as my great grandfather was a Carl Gustav Martinsson, believed to be Norwegian.
