Thanks for your reply. Can you tell me which children belong to each mother? I show David mar. to Hattie about 1898..and having children David Milton Jr. b 1899 and Annieliza b. 1903. Was James also Hattie's child...and Thomas, too? It looks as if George was Ollie's son, and Robert Reynolds was Lillian's son. That family sure had a lot of tragedy! I found in Texas Death Records that Ollie died of a head injury from a car accident in 1929. My mother was very fond of her aunt Ollie. Ollie's sister, Myrtle Dougharty Carroll was my mother's mother. Myrtle and family moved to California in 1920 where she died in 1923. Mom never mentioned Ollie's death. Myrtle and Ollie's youngest sister, Ella, was close to my mom and Ella didn't die until 1993 in Calif. at age 93, but she would never talk about family because it was "too sad".

David M. was my Grandfather, My Father was Thomas Sr. his mother was Hattie who died as the result of his birth(within 6 or 8 months). He was born 2/09/1912 and died 5/20/1985. The next time out in Uvalde I can look at the family plot to see what the stones say. I know George was killed in the military(accident)in his 20's. Robert(Bobby)shot himself(accident)at home as a teenager. David Jr. and James died in Corpus Christi and Annieliza(Bunker)died in San Antonio.

Re: Massie of Wellington Co. Ontario from Scotland

MASSIE, Fr. Brian (Buzz), S.J.

On Sunday, May 03, 2009 at the Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg,

Manitoba, Fr. Brian Massie, in the company of his Jesuit brothers, slowly took his last

breaths and died peacefully after a long series of struggles with pneumonia. He was 66

years old, in his 49th year as a Jesuit, and his 37th year as a priest.

He was born on March 21, 1943 in Toronto, the son of James C. Massie and

Helen Turner. He had five brothers, Robert, James, Malcolm, Turner (dec.) and Anthony

(dec.).

In his ministry as a Jesuit priest, he was the founding director of Camp Ekon in

Muskoka, a teacher at Brebeuf College School in Willowdale, Ontario, a pastor at St.

Andrew's Church in Thunder Bay, a pastor at St. Peter Claver Church in Kingston,

Jamaica, where he was also chaplain to prisoners on death row, a pastor at Our Lady of

Lourdes Church in Toronto, and the pastor at St. Ignatius Church in Winnipeg, where he

was also the religious superior for all the Jesuits in Winnipeg.

His eloquent preaching attracted many, especially the young, the hurting and

the alienated. Highly regarded for his common sense and for his skills in leadership and

administration, he was often sought out for the compassion and wisdom that came from

his lived experience.

Friends are invited for prayers and visitation at St. Ignatius Church, 255

Stafford Street, in Winnipeg on Thursday, May 7th (7-9:30pm) and on Friday morning. The

Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 1:30 pm on Friday, May 8, 2009 at St.

Ignatius Church, followed by a reception in the St. Ignatius School Gym. Burial will be in

St. Mary's Cemetery in Winnipeg.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 26th at 7:30 pm at Our Lady of

Lourdes Church in Toronto.

Cropo Funeral Chapel at 1442 Main St., Wpg. MB, (204) 582-4150, is taking care of

arrangements.

I wonder if anyone could perhaps help me? Im searching for information about an Elsie robertson cooper massie and Alexander bissett who were my grandparents. Elsie was born in methlick to a margaret massie, who's parents were from auchterless. She ? married but definately got together with an alexander johnston or joseph bisset, ?had a son alexander around aberdeen in 1928 then moved to dumfries and galloway between 1928 and 1932. I have found elsie's family but am trying to trace alexander, and them as a couple. There seems to have been some covering up of life history going on, its all rather mysterious, if anyone can help Id be most grateful, val.
Re: Massie of Wellington Co. Ontario from Scotland

My grandfather recently died his name was James C. Massie. I am trying to trace back my family line. I come from a dark African American family but, my grandfather and his siblings where very light although their parents where dark. We believe that our descendants were Caucasian. I have found that Massie is not a very popular name especially with the "ie" spelling. I am hoping there is some kind of connection between those with the Massie name.

Does your line every own slaves at any point?

Hi,

My direct line, from Ontario, doesn't have any slave or African connections. My line starts in Aberdeenshire, Scotland in about 1780. All known branches of this line either remained in Scotland or emigrated to Ontario up to about 1900 (where I loose track of some branches)

Good luck with your search!

I've searched "Massie" with "ie" before and know there is at least one line that is extensive in the USA, I can't recall the state and haven't been able to connect my line to it.
Lucinda has living with her my great-great-grandmother, Georgia, another daughter, Hattie, and a son, Larkin who worked for the Massie family as a farm laborer.
Hermione Massie of Contrecouer, Quebec

I am looking for more information on my great-great grandmother Hermione (also spelled Hermon, Hermine and Herminie) from Contrecouer, Quebec. She was born in 1867 (I believe in a church named St. Brigide) and immigrated to the United States in 1885. She married Henry William King in Scituate, Rhode Island on Oct. 15, 1887. I have census listings for her in 1910 and 1930 but I'm more interested in her parents and her lineage in Canada which I know absolutely nothing about. Family records show her as having "Massie" as a last name but the census shows her as being named "Hermon C" - I am not sure if the C is indicative of her middle or former last name. I know that she was at least half Native American but I have no idea which tribe she is from. Any information would really be appreciated. Thanks!

A good start on this might be to indicate the location / country you're searching in.

That narrows it down somewhat.

James.

My g grandmother was Clara E. Massie. She was born in Polk Nodaway, Missouri. She died in 1925 in Custer county Nebraska. She married John Connor Spencer in 1885 and had 5 children. If you have any info on her or any other Massie's associated with her, I would very much hearing from you. Thanks so much!!!

Re: Squire Massie files Divorce Rebecca Massie

You Will find Armstrong Massie on the census in Cabell County WV in 1880 and 1900 with wife Harriet (Sampson) and in 1920 with wife Mary. On the 1920 census my step grandmother Rebecca is 35. I am searching for her place of burial.

Some of Armstrong's children are in the Biker Cemetery and the Fairview Cemetery both in Cabell County. There was an obituary for him in the Ironton Tribune but I don't have a copy.

Rebecca's married name was Bradley. If this information is helpful I hope you will share what you learn.

Let that one go, it is a trivial account of no importance. Just because certain names are mentioned does not mean they have any bearing on the history of my family.

I certainly recognise the parents - I have them in a tree back to George Massie and Isobel Wallace in the 18th century.
