Elizabeth Dewson Massingham

Elizabeth married Isaac Mann Vince in 1882 and had two children, Harold Isaac in 1886 amd Mabel Elizabeth in 1891. Elizabeth Dewson Vince died at Christchurch district in Bournemouth in 1896. After that, Isaac married Ann Elizabeth Morgan Marsh and the family moved to Canada about that same year. Although one source indicates 1908, there is no Isaac Vince in the 1901 census, nor Harold or Mabel. The only early record I have is Mabel Elizabeth Vince's marriage registration from 1910 in Vancouver, BC. She was married to Lawrence Will Davidson and witnesses were Isaac Mann Vince and Harold Isaac Vince, the father and brother of Mabel, respectively. Her mother is shown clearly as Elizabeth Dewson Massingham. The hard drive on my computer may be now toast as of this morning and so I'm posting this message from memory. Please respond to j099@webtv.net if you have any information. I'm mainly looking for the cause of death. Elizabeth was only 42, according to the record but the record from Greg Harper shows that she was born about 1850. This means she was actually 46, which is still young, though she was seven years older than Isaac. Someone said that in 1896 there were a lot of sanitariums in Hampshire. If anyone knows, please send me an e-mail.Jay

MASSINGHAM, marriage to Elliott (Garden Tram track)

Does anyone recall their family mentioning Massingham married to Elliott in south-east London.
Massingham and Burton families used to visit New Cross and Brockley. Memories may be jerked by the fact that Richard Elliott had a model tram track in his garden at New Cross and later at Abbey Wood, south-east London.
Does this ring any bells with anyone.
Please get in touch.
Regards
Tony Brown, Dartford, Kent

Hi Chris;
It was by pure chance that I came accross your letter on the Massingham Norfolk board I normally would search by family name and place. My families name is WEST but my Grandmothers Mothers name was ROSA LANCASTER nee MULLETT her Husbands name was FREDERICK LANCASTER and he was born 14/11/1857 in the town of IPSWICH SUFFOLK. His Fathers name was WILLIAM LANCASTER and his Mothers name ELIZABETH LANCASTER nee ASHMEAD.
I know that ELIZABETH was born at WELLS NEXT THE SEA NORFOLK and it seems likely that ELIZABETH having had a son FREDERICK in 1857 was probably born herself 20years earlier about 1836/7. I would be pleased to exchange any information with you. So until I hear from you all the best.
KENNETH.A.WEST

Bale Massingham

Has anyone come across Bale Massingham anywhere? I know the following:

he married a widow Elizabeth (married name Stebbing) in Great Cressingham, Norfolk in 1764.

Bale, Elizabeth and Elizabeth's daughter by her first marriage, also called Elizabeth, were granted a settlement certificate in 1765 by the parish of Watton, Norfolk, i.e. Watton was their original parish.

Bale and Elizabeth had a son Robert, baptised in Great Cressingham in 1765 (buried in 1848 in Watton): to have only one child is, perhaps, slightly surprising - are there others baptised in another parish?

Bale died in 1786 and was buried in Great Cressingham.

Elizabeth died in 1794 and was buried in Great Cressingham, although a parish removal order had been granted in 1793 to move her back to Watton.

Bale's unusual Christian name presumably reflects his mother's maiden name (Bale or Ball or Balls), rather than the Norfolk parish of Bale.

I would welcome any information about this family if you come across it.
Norfolk Massinghams

Good afternoon everyone and Season's Greetings.

I am a new user of this bulletin board, and live now in Norfolk (UK) although I came originally from Sussex and spent my working life at sea.

I am researching the ancesters of my Great Grandmother MARY ANNE LOWNE MASSINGMAM, born 23/05/1845 in Wells-next-Sea, Norfolk (U.K.) She married Willaim Robert Smith 23/08 1865 in Wells and went to live in King's Lynn where William was eventually Mayor twice. She died 30/3/1923.

Mary's mother was PLEASANCE (ASHMEAD) Massingham, born 8th June 1828 in Wells. She had two sisters, Mary Ann, and Elizebeth, and they were all babtised in Wells together on 8th. July 1836

Pleasance's father was JOHN MASSINGHAM, farm labourer, born in Wighton (near Wells) in 1796 and his wife was Ann ? of King's Lynn.

The records are very confusing in this area and any help would be much appreciated. You may contact me on this bulletin board or directly at cnmwds@netscapeonline.co.uk

Happy New Year to everyone,

Chris Woods

New MASSINGHAM genealogy web site operational

My new MASSINGHAM genealogy web site is now operational at
fp.gregharper.plus.com

This replaces the Massingham genealogy information previously available on my X-stream web site (now defunct), and that originally available on a Demon Internet web site (now also defunct). I have also updated and transferred the Massingham information from my Geocities web site, though this still exists for the time being. ALL my Massingham research is thus now available on a single site - at fp.gregharper.plus.com

My genealogy web site hub has also moved, to
www.wicken.freewire.co.uk

This site acts as a gateway to all of my web sites and provides genealogical tools, etc.

Have fun and please contact me if we share genealogical interests!

Greg Harper
