Hi -- I'm afraid I don't have the birth and death dates for Hannah, but I know that she was a child of John and Susannah Hoover Mast of Randolph County, NC, and that she died in St. Joseph, Indiana -- here is the source info: Davis, Eileen, & Ireton, Judith, Quaker Records of the Miami Valley of Ohio, (Cook-Mcdowell Publications, 1233 Sweeney St., Owensboro, Kentucky 42301; 1980), p.146. Hannah had three sisters, Mary "Molly", born 7 November 1779, Catherine Susanna, and Elizabeth, but I do not have dates for the others. I hope this helps.

we have 7 Mast's to the 1740's

Greetings:

My family tree has a lineage of 7 Mast members going back to about the 1740's, all in Germany. Might any of them fit into your Mast trees? I hope to extend my tree back before the 1700's. So, working back from the oldest:
* Johann Andreas Mast, born about 1740, Germany. Married Auguste Elisabeth Master 18 May 1760,Zorge, Osterode am Harz, Niedersachsen, Germany
* Johann's son was Carl Andreas Friedrich Mast who married Anna Margaretha Ungewitter 07 Nov 1790 in Liebenrode, Nordhausen, Thüringen, Germany.
* Carl's son was Johann Heinrich August Mast who married Katharina Justine Schmalz 19 Oct 1823 in Zorge, Osterode am Harz, Niedersachsen, Germany
* etc. etc., to our most recent Mast, Anna: born 10 Nov 1891 in Timmenrode, Wernigerode, Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany and married Karl Willi Renneckendorf on 25 Feb 1911, in Timmenrode, Wernigerode, Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany

Does this help anyone? And, thank you for any connections you might be able to provide. Cheers,
Bo

Samuel E. Mast

I am looking for information on my 2nd great grandfather, Samuel E. Mast. Samuel was born about 1856 and died 1896. He was married to Minerva Jane Fox. I show that he was born and died in Ohio around the Montgomery County area. In 1870 he lived in York, Morgan County, Ohio. In 1880 I have them living in Newberry, Miami County, Ohio. I have his death as being in Montgomery County and he and Minerva are buried in Polk Grove Cemetery, Montgomery County, Ohio. The only children I have for them is Mary Ellen (Mast) Brown-Wilhelm, my great grandmother, 1874-1941, and Elmer Ellsworth Mast, 1876-1938. If anyone help me locate who his parents were and his proper date and place of birth and any information on him, I would be so appreciative. Thank you in advance.

To all family members.
I need help! The Abraham Mast Cemetery On Rt 351 in Holmes co, Ohio. Just west of Berlin, Ohio, is in dire need of repair. It has been badly neglected by the Mast brothers that own it. Years ago they sold the farm to Lauren Agrisystem Research center. The path through the field has been so destoyed by trash, manure, and deep ruts. The cemetery is disappearing from tree's, bushes, tall grass and animal holes. I am trying to get help from anyone to help clean help. Pass the word and maybe together we can save our ancestors.
Thank You:
Sherry hofbauer.

My Grandfathers mother was Emma Mast whos father was Oliver Perry Mast and his parents were Frances and Hannah Mast. My family settled in Montgomery Co. Ohio. I'm missing a link between Frances Mast and Wesley J. Mast. Someone in my family, the daughter of Louis LaVake Mast and Ida Belle Lockard has a written document handed down the generations, but nobody has added to it. I know that my story starts with Johannes Mast who was from Switzerland and brought Jacob born 1738, and John born in 1740 with their 4 sisters. They sailed from Rotterdam on the ship Brotherhood. If anyone has information linking Wesley J Mast with Frances Mast you can email me direct at ms_mandi69@hotmail.com, Thank you.

I recently found this cemetery in Berlin, Holmes co, Oh. It is in horrible condition. It has been left unkept for many many years. There is so much brush you can not see most headstones. Many of the infant and childrens stones are thrown up against a wall. Large animals have dug down into graves. We found the two we ware looking for and cleaned around the area as much as we could. This cemetery is comprised of family members, there spouses, there children and in laws. There are Masts, Millers, Yoders, Sommers. Hochstetler, and many more there. I have a list of names. Please if you live in this area, (as I live 4 hours away,) make an effort to go and clear a grave or two. If we all pitch in maybe we can restore this resting place for our ancestors. This is where the earliest settlers of this area are resting. If they did not come here we would not be here!
Thanks
Sherry:

John Mast b. abt. Feb. 1854 Germany to Canada to Michigan?

Hi ... I'm looking for info on my great grandfather John Mast. I have him b. Feb. 1854 Germany.

In the Stephen, Ontario Canada Census of 1901 it says he imigrated in 1889. I have him in the Michigan, 1920 census living with his oldest daughter, my grandmother's sister Christina Mast Sackett. He is listed as a widower, 63yrs old, was naturalized in 1917. This census also shows him having imigrated to states in 1889 also. He is then shown in the 1930 census Oakland Co., Farmington Twp., Michigan living with his daughter Louisa Mast Manzel.

My grandmother was his 2nd daughter - Veronika Florence Mast Cole. I have Johns wife as Florence Wiles which is what is listed on my grandmother's marriage record. My grandmother was born 26 Sep 1888 in Berlin Stadt, Brandenburg, Preussen. She died 08 Aug 1967 in Celina, Mercer Co., Ohio.

I know at one time they lived in Creation, Ontario Canada. Any info would be helpful.

Rosemary

Jacob Mast

I recently (aka: last weekend) visited the Mast Cemetery in Nacogdoches, TX. The cemetery itself is less than .5 acre, but there was plenty of interest.

One of the headstones was marked:
Jacob Mast
born 2/22/1790
died 3/10/1878.

This Jacob Mast is the brother of Reuben Mast and son of Joseph and Eve (Bowers) Mast from NC. I'm wondering if anyone has information on his wife, or wives as the case appears to be.
His first wife was Mrs. Rebecca Robbins Fulcher, she had 3 or 4 children from her previous marriage, and 2 that I know of with Jacob - Milton and Leona.
After Rebecca's death, Jacob married a woman named Elizabeth (possibly) Baker. I am interested in any information anyone is willing to share.
Thanks! ~ Alli
The "falling out"

I've heard a lot about the alleged falling out between what I have come to term the original Mast brothers: John and Jacob.
I went to speak with my Great Uncle Jim Mast the other day and he told me a very interesting story that I was hoping someone else could back up: He said that one of the four sisters who had immigrated to the US with John and Jacob and settled in PA was taken hostage by Indians and that John left PA in search of her. It was never discovered if she was found or not, but John eventually settled in NC and married a Barabara (who I am guessing was Barbara Harmon).
I'm not sure if there is any truth to this tale (my uncle is getting older and his memory, along with all the family stories, is slowly becoming foggy).
Anyway... I'm also trying to untangle some of that history and was hoping someone could provide information on Reuben Mast (b. 1794, son of Joseph and Eve Bowers). I know that he married Jane Curtis and had 5 children, but he was married prior to that to a Nancy Webb. I'm positive children resulted from this union, but am unsure of their names.
I am a descendant of Nancy A. Mast (daughter of Reuben and Jane Curtis) who married her cousin Milton Mast. Their daughter Mary "Mollie" Mast married a James W Mast who is said to be the grandson of Adam Mast through Andrew J (however this is debatable). Their son Clifford Arp is my great grandfather.
Any information would be of great help. Thanks!
Allison Mansfield, College Station, TX

Sorry, I didn't get to you sooner. I have been extremly busy. Anyway my Masts are from Lancaster co, Pa. Jacob Mast was the first to move from the Conestoga valley in PA to Holmes co. in 1826, settleing in Hardy twp. It is possible they were menonite. I have no proof. I don,t even know how John Lint is related. Maybe a cousin or grandson, or nephew. The history of the cematery says only family members, descendants and marriage relatives are buried there. John married an Irish girl, whose father had the first sawmill in Holmes co. (Thomas McQuiston). Hope this helps.

Thank You:
Sherry Hofbauer.
sherrell@tds.net

Heoo, I'm tryiing to find descendants of the Mast family from Viken, Hoganas, Malmohous (Skane) Sweden. I have an Ola Johsson Mast, fisherman, labourer och drifter born around 1797 in Viken, died before 1852, Information about this man is not clear, the records indicate that he was the father of serveral children in the area. He married Hanna Andersdotter in 1830 she had the two first children (Kjers
ti and Gunner, Kjersti died age one and Gunner did not appear to have married. I'me trying to find an August or Augustus Matthewson born around 1846 in Sweden, ship's carpenter who moved to St. John's, New Brunswick and m. a Mary McLeod of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. On Augustus's death certificate he lists his fathers surname at Mats, but that may be an a clerical error. Augustus's daughter Katie Ann m. another Swedish sailer who moved to N.B., Canada, Janne Jonsson, who became a famous painer of Antlantic Tall Ships, some of his paintings are in the N.B. Museum. Janne Jonsson because John Johnson in Canada, and was my great maternal uncle. We believe that Janne/John may have come to N.B. has he already had relatives from Malmohous living in St. Johns, i.e. Augustus Matthewson or Mast. Any help is grealy appreciated, sincerely Denise

Hello. I'm researching the Mast family of Viken, Hoganas, Skane Sweden. I have an Ola Johnsson Mast, fisherman, laborer och drifter, born around 1797 in Viken, died before 1853, Information abou t this man is not clear, the records indicate that he was the father of several children in the area. He m. Hanna Andersdotter in 1830, she had two first children (Kjersti and Gunner before she m. Ola, though it is very likely that he as the father of these two as well). Kjersti Olsdotter Mast died age l, Gunner born 1833, died of old age in 1916, but didn't seem to have children. I'm trying to find an Augustus Matthewson, 1881 census for New Brunswick, Canada, ship's carpenter, born Sweden, his daughter Katie Ann married into my family Janne Jonsson who also moved to N.B., Janne became John Johnson in Canada. Augustus lists his father as having his father's last name as Mats on this death certificate in N.B.. perhaps Augustus was one of the illegitimate children by Ola, Augustus was born around 1846 in Sweden. Any help is appreciated, sincerely Denise

I recently found out my ancester, John Lint and his wife Matilda McQuisten Lint is buried in this cematery in the north west corner of Holmes county, Oh. In 1890 when John was buried the cematery was located on the Abraham Mast farm. This is an Amish cematery on an Amish farm. The Miller family cematery is just east of there. We did find this cematery but not the Mast cematery. There is a Mast home there though. It is possible it is behind the house. I know John has to be related somehow.
The children of Rueben and Jane Curtis are
David Crockett b 5/25/41
Nancy Anne b 8/5/43
Rueben T b 1846
Zachary Taylor b 6/4/47
Sarah Baxter b 11/30/58

He left Watauga County and then went down to Nacodoches TX along with some Whittingtons and some servants. The marriage to Jane Curtis was after the marriage to Nancy Webb. It's all in the Mast Family history book by CZ Mast.

It is not proven and probably incorrect that Barbara Harmon was John Mast's wife as the dates are wrong. However as the DAR had someone list that prior to needing documentation it's stuck.

Although I am descended from the Watauga Masts I did grow up in the Mennonite church somewhat accidentally. We had Mennonite history classes and never had it been expressed that anyone went looking for anyone after the Hochstetler massacre.

I started researching my family history after I married a Mennonite boy and he took me to live in a Mennonite area and everyone asked "who were you before you were married"? It was a given to them that I had to be relateed to all of them. I wanted to prove that I wasn't. Well, obviously that backfired. Soooo depending on my mood and how much I want to shock them my story now, twenty years of research later goes either... "there were two Mast brothers, one became the first Amish bishop in America and the second was mine who went to North Carolina and was never heared from again" OR my mom was a Catholic her grandfather being a Catholic priest, my dad an agnostic and my Mast grandmother was a Jehovahs witness. hehehe that normally stuns them into silence :)
I really don't have much information on the wives however the information I have is different. I should have written down my source but I believe it's the Mast Family History book by CZ Mast who I believe traveled not only down to NC but also to TX to visit with the Masts there.
I have the children from the Rebecca marriage listed as :
Madison b 1829
Marion b 1831
Jacob b 1832
Milton b 1833
Leona b 1836

and Jacob marrying Elizabeth Jane Baker March 22, 1840
