Hi Ed,

Imagine that! Like me, you're still around from 2005. Thanks for responding. The information you provided is promising. The first (known) child I have born to them was born abt. 1865 so a marriage in 1859 is feasible. In addition, the witness "Ginty" you mentioned is interesting. I've seen the "McGinty" surname as possibly connected as well as McGinty's living extremely nearby on the same street for James & Margaret Masterson Gallagher's son Edward in Cuyahoga, Cleveland, OH in the 1900 & 1910 census.

Looking at the 1900 OH census again, I see that there is a John Masterson born 1869 Ireland on the same census page as Edward Gallagher. He could be a cousin of Edward Gallagher's via his mother Margaret Masterson Gallagher's family? John Masterson is married to an Alicia b. 1871, also from Ireland. Both immigrated 1884 and have been married 9 years..so married in the USA.

Can you enlighten me a bit about Achill? Where is that exactly?

Please let me know if you find anything else for James Gallagher married Margaret Masterson.

Very much appreciated,

Luana

John Masterson was born about 1838 in Westport, County Mayo, Ireland and died in Cleveland, Ohio on February 3, 1876. His parents are listed as Bryan and Rose Masterson. John's death record also mentions that he was from Murrevagh, Westport, County Mayo, Ireland.

I'm searching for siblings of John or any information on his Parents.

Thanks,
Ed O'Malley

Hi Luana,

I don't have a Margaret that I've been able to connect, but in William Masterson's Marriage book I did find a 19 year old Margaret Masterson (Achill) who married a 21 year old James Gallagher (Achill) on March 26, 1859 at the Achill Parish Church (Church of Ireland) on Achill. I'm sorry to say that no parents are listed, but the witnesses were Patrick Ginty and Thomas Ginnelly.

I'll keep searching and see if I can find anything else on this couple.

Ed

I am wondering if since you posted this in 2005, if you have discovered a sister named Margaret / Magarete / Margareta for your John Masterson? My Margaret Masterson married James Gallagher.
Hi there. I sure hope you can help me. I am the last remaining child of my father John Byard Carey from New Madrid. His mother was Letha Masterson born in 1890. Her oldest sons name was Elijah Clark. I believe Letha's father was Elijah Masterson and maybe her mothers name was Rose because she had a daughter she named Rosalie, and I believe I found it on a census. I have old photos and one I have found out is Mary Ellen Masterson born 1866 and died 1934. Someone else actually posted the EXACT same picture I have. But I dont know how I am related to her.

Aaron Masterson was witness.

Joseph Abbott married Rhoda Masterson Mason County, Kentucky 10Jun1805 Bondsman was Aaron Masterson.

Samuel came over from Ireland with his father Robert Ewing.

I'm trying to ferret out the interelated families of southern Ohio and northern Kentucky.

I would like to get the family group of John and Laurannah and any genealogy of John and Laurannah. I'm trying to determine when and which route they took to Kentucky. Even though it is probable that Samuel met Rachael in Kentucky, it is possible that these families traveled together out of Pennsylvania, down the Ohio to Kentucky. Robert Ewing and his family were immigrants; therefore, trying to determine when/where they arrived into America.
McCabe or Nelson?

I have a Deed showing George Masterson of Morgan County, Ohio, purchasing Lot Number 118 cemetery plat (recorded in Plat Book page 455, part of NE 1/4 of Section 24, Twp 13, Range 14, Perry County, dated 13 January 1905. Purchased from M. R. Hearing. Is there a way to determine who is buried in this plat, etc?

IGI shows Hattie P (not O) Nelson's father Perly Nelson and mother Nancy Appleman; spouse George Masterson. Hattie died in 1900 and son, Roy, went to live with his "grandparents", enumerated in 1910 census in Morgan County OH, as McCabe. It is believed that Lucinda Appleman is the mother of Savilla Bankes-husband Thomas Masterson and son George W. Masterson. Sep 20 and Sep 29, 1869 shown as birthdates for George. FindaGrave shows burial of Hattie Masterson born 1870, died 1900, at Zion Cemetery in Portersville, Perry, Ohio USA. Also interred are George 1899-1903 and Oscar 1895-1916.

If Hattie's parents were McCabes, Appleman/Nelson does not appear as a viable solution to ascendency. My cousin and I keep searching. Please post comments/remarks.

I know this is an old post, but you never know...

I received Masterson info from a cousin of mine. He has a John Masterson married to a Mary Hogg. He also has down Elijah, James, Mary Ellen, Elonzo, Elizabeth, and Sarah Jane as being the children.

The only Lawrence I see in the records that were sent to me was a son of Elijah's, DOB: 15 Dec 1882; DOD: 4 Jul 1956.

I am related to Elijah Masterson. His son, John Watt Jackson Masterson, was my great-grandfather.

I'm new to collecting New Madrid Masterson info, so if anyone has some they would like to share, I'd love to see it. Thanks!

John Hearnes

My Grandfather, Edward Lee MASTERSON was the son of George(middle name unknown) MASTERSON. Edward Lee was from County Cork, Ireland. George was obviously from there also, but may have been from another area of Ireland prior to Edward Lee's birth. Edward Lee's mother must have also been from Ireland, but the only information I have was that his wife in Chicago was Melly or Milly Lanham, supposedly from Indiana. I do not have any VERIFIED information on the Ireland relations yet. Edward Lee married Ruth L. Larson of Chicago, IL, on October 15, 1914. My Mother (their daughter), Ruth Joyce Masterson, was born October 15, 1915, in Chicago, IL. Joyce married Thomas Henry Temple on Jan 6, 1933. They had a son, Robert Lee Temple. That marriage was annulled, and after my birth on July 11, 1935, our Mother died from embolus. Our Grandparents, Edward & Ruth, adopted my brother, Robert Lee Temple MASTERSON, and I was adopted by dear friends of the family. Thus my brother married and had 4 children, 1 girl and 3 boys, the boys are Mark, Robert, and William MASTERSON. Mark has a son, John; Robert has a son, Wyatt; and William has no children.

Your assumptions are pretty much on target. I think if you go to rootsweb.com,scroll down to family trees, and search "Family Trees on World Connect" you should come to a page where you can enter a search by name, like "Masterson". There are a large number of Masterson databases here. you can then select "Ewing"

If you would like some interesting reading on this family, read "The Frontiersman" by Allan Eckart. It has lots of the adventures of early western pennsylvanians ,the Ewings, Miller, Hewitt, and Masterson families, are just a few. Those particular families all intermarried later in KY

I can locate two Cornelius Masterson's in Elizabeth, one was married to an Annie Hurley. Can anyone help me find my Cornelius and confirm who he was married to.

Thanks for the info, Lisa. Actually, Fred's father Roy E was born in 1891 in Ohio and Fred's brother Roy was born in 1925 in Pennsylvania. The Texas Birth Index shows Wayne being born 12 Dec 1950.

Glad to find a branch of our family tree.

Re: Bat Masterson

Hi, TR
Thanks for the reply. My interest in Bat started when I was told (at 12 years) that I was related to Bat. Apparently, had something to do with a "relationship" here in San Diego at the Horton Grand Hotel during the late 19th and early 20th century. Not knowing for sure, I'm resistant to claiming any direct relationship with Bat. My relatives were quite positive about it however. My birth name was Jameson and that doesn't seem to jive with any Masterson relationships I can find. Currently going over names of persons in the area that worked in or around the Old Horton Grand Hotel here in SD. Wyatt lived at the Horton for years and Bat visited him several times there while working for Pinkerton. Started me on a great side career for me in reenacting the life of Bat for almost 40 years now.
Thanks again for the reply.
Tracey Walker

Christopher Masterson, Dublin, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts

Hello!
Hope your week is going well.

I am looking for information on Christopher Masterson born in Dublin about 1790.

I believe he married an Ann in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania before 1828. Her name may have also been Elizabeth Ann, and I think she was born in Philadelphia.

Christopher and Ann had four children that I know of: James R. born about 1828, Constance born in 1832, Levi born about 1835, and Christiana? born about 1837.

I found possible census records for Christopher and his family:

1830 West Southwark, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
1840 North and South Penn, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
1850 Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts

Constance and James R. Masterson were the only family members I could trace past this point in the census records.

Constance married Benjamin Ednam Ward, and later moved to New York and Canada. James married an Ann and lived in Newton, Massachusetts.

My husband is a descendant of Constance.

Also, I found a record of interest of a Christopher Masterson immigrating to Philadelphia in 1826 with two girls Bridget and Ellen. The port of departure was Liverpool. Christopher's appoximate birth was listed as 1791. Unfortunately, the 1830 and 1840 US census records do not list the names of the children, so I'm not sure if this Christopher is the same.

Any help would be wonderful.

Thank you!
