Hi Cathy,

There doesn't seem to be an immediate connection, but maybe there is further back. My fourth great-grandfather, Thomas Mathers, came from the Leeds area to Chester, PA around 1880. His father's name was George, but I don't have an information beyond that. None of the names you mention are familiar, but maybe we'll find a connection down the road...
Good luck with your search!
Ken

Hi There,
I don't know whether there's a connnection, but I am a descendant of Mathers. My grandfather immigrated from the Leeds area (Bierley, Pudsey, Calverley) to Canada then to Detroit, Michigan. He was one of four children (Emily, Ernest and Ellen). My great-grandfather was James as well as his father.

I grew up in Detroit and moved last year to Newark, Delaware. I would love to see if there is a connection. I could give some more information that might help.
Sincerely,
Cathy

Hi Shelia,

Good to hear from you! I also got your message you posted on my tree. Thanks for contacting me! I believe your grandmother Lena and my great-grandfather, Thomas McCormick were cousins. So Lena's mother Martha Mathers, and my gg-grandmother, Sarah Mathers were siblings. I think that makes us third cousins once removed...cool! I've got quite a bit of information on the whole Mathers side, mostly from obtiuaries I have and a will from Thomas Mathers, who was the first Mathers of our line to come to America. It appears as though you grandmother's parents (Martha and David Highes) died young and she was rasied by other relatives. Is that accurate? There was also another Mather's sister, Eliza, who died young with her husband (Frank Tingle), which makes me think there was some kind of accident or something. I have also found good information at the Delaware County archives website and through findagrave.com and also oldchesterpa.com...all great sites. I've been doing genealogy for about three years, but more off than on lately. I would be happy to exchange more information/picture with you! Thanks again for contacting me.

Ken

Joan, it has been some time since your post on the Mathers family, but I am very interested to hear what you have learned. I believe we are related. My great grandfather was William Henry Mathers, who came to Johnsonburg, Pa., from Portadown in Nothern Ireland and whose mother was a Mackey. We have always been told that she was a Catholic and he was a Protestant, and that when they married, they had to disguise the cart they rode in. What did you learn of the family on your visit?
Mathers in Dundee

Annie Mathers Pozzi, daughter of Catherine Mathers (1852-1904) and Joseph Pozzi was born in 1883 in Dublin and worked as a bookkeeper secretary at her uncle's Mathers Hotel. At least that's how the story goes.
Research has turned up David Mathers who got involved in his mother's hotels in 1873 and eventually built the Mathers Hotel on Whitehall Street in Dundee. Has anyone researched this family?

I am looking for descendants of William H. Mathers, b. Dec. 1875, Leeds, England, son of Alfred and Margaret (Fishburn) Mathers. He emmigrated to U.S. in 1889. His wife's name was Daisy. They had a daughter, Margaret V. Mathers b.1905, and a son, William F. Mathers b. 1908. The son, William F. Mathers' wife was named Helen b. 1909. They had a daughter, Janice H. Mathers, b. 1929. My information stops at that point. William H. Mathers had siblings Jane Anne, Alfred and Richard. I am the grandson of Alfred. I have extensive information about Jane Anne, Alfred and Richard, but little about William H. All lived in Cincinnati, Ohio for a time. Willaim H. moved to Brooklyn in the early 1900's.

I know he had married Henrietta (Clark) Tilley. I know together they had two daughters, in addition to children of previous marriages. I had located their graves there in Anderson, Ind. A genealogical guru/friend highly recommends it for any possible church records.

I also have the three boys marrying Maxwell Scott's daughters but I'm not sure where I found that information, I don't have it "confirmed".

I'll try to e-mail you.

Heidi
not related - for your info only

Daily Press
Victorville, San Bernardino, CA.
3 Oct 2007, B2

LEO MATHERS

We say goodbye to Leo Mathers, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and loyal friend. He peacefully departed our company Sept. 29, 2007, around 5 p.m., at his home in Hesperia, from complications resulting from bladder cancer.
Leo was born May 9, 1934, in Imlay City, Mich. He served two terms in the United States Army, 101st Airborne Division, and will be laid to rest at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside.
Among his many passions, foremost was his family. We owe him a debt of gratitude for his love, support, patience and understanding through the years. He blessed our lives each and every day. Until he became ill, it was rare not to see a guitar in his hand, a song on his lips or a kind word to give. From his cowboy hat to those happy dancing feet, we all agree that he loved life and lived it to its fullest. He will be sorely missed.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Lottie Mathers, brother Albert and sister Arlene Mathers.
Leo is survived by his wife, Margie; children Leo Kelley Mathers, Lady Mathers, Shelley Barber and her husband, Tony, Susan Kreider and her husband, Brad, Ron Roberts, David Roberts, Jeffrey Roberts and his wife, Colleen; 22 grandchildren and 11 1 /2 great-grandchildren.
“If God brings you to it, he will bring you through it.”
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kern Hesperia Mortuary Chapel, 16120 Main St. in Hesperia. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Kern Hesperia Mortuary Chapel. Kern Hesperia Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Wow you posted this a long time ago, but don't see where anyone answered.
Samuel Livingston Mather is the 5th Great Grandson of Richard Mather (b. 1596), who is considered the Pilgrim father and american ancestor of the Mather family. The nearest common relative is Timothy Mather b. 1628. Timothy has the distinction of being the only son of Richard not to be a preacher. He was called the "Mather Farmer". (I am the 9th great grandson of Richard Mather).

Jane was born in 1793 in New Jersey.

Lucius and Jane lived in Middlesex, Yates, New York. I have found them in the 1820, 30, 50 and 60 census.
