Bill Mathes

Died: Oct. 23, 2009

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- William "Bill" Rowe Mathes, died Friday.

He was born Jan. 29, 1927, in Greeneville, Tenn. He was the widower of Becky Mathes, who died Nov. 3, 2004.

Mr. Mathes retired as a lieutenant colonel from the U.S. Army after 21 years. He was a decorated pilot and instructor, in addition to being a veteran of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his five children and their families

I believe this is correct. According to everything I can find, this Mathes family came from Warren County, Tennessee to Stone County, Missouri for a couple of generations and then scattered. At least one branch ended up in Ohio. My own branch (Millie Mandora Mathes) moved to the Kansas City area.

Sorry to be so long in replying to you posting. I don't check the message board very often. My grandfather was James HInshaw Mathes. Son of Zachariah Campbell Mathes, who was the son of James Madison Mathes,who was the son of Jeremiah Jackson Sr. Mathes.
Do you by chance have any information on George Washington Mathes,born 12 June 1865, Greene Co., TN? His father was Henry Mathes,b: 1830 in TN. This line seems to be floating in space.

Hi Tracy! I don't know if we are related or not. I don't know anything about great grandma Henny but I think her last name was Mathes. On my grandfather's birth certificate, it was listed as Mathews. I took a picture of her gravestone just last week. It listed her name as Henny Hubbard. Her birth year was 1879 and death year 1918. She lived in Stirling City,CA. Her husband was George S. Hubbard. She was supposed to have been born in Germany, Hamburg, maybe. Thanks so much for any help.

Paul Mathes is a very common name I think. My father was Paul Clifton Mathes. He passed away 7/29/05 in Greeneville, TN. He was a Navy veteran (USS Hornet).

I belive iam agreat bgreat son of Squire Mathes. He had sonn named Patrick,who had ason named Custer,who was my grndfather. Custer had sons named Paul,Mearl,Don,Patrick,Gene,and a daughter Judy. Custer died in White Cottage Ohio. Patrick and Judy still live in Zanesville Ohio. Paul,Merle,and Don are also dead. P_aul was my father.

My name is Ralph Edward Smith Jr and my Great-Grandmother was Ida May Johnson. She was married to my great grandfather Harvey Albert Smith and was the mother of my grandfather Ralph Albert Smith. My grandpa was actually raised by Ida and Noah Mathes. My father was Ralph Edward Smith Sr. of Hopewell. I currently live in Fort Worth, Texas.

Did you go to Potosi High and if so what year did you graduate? I graduated in 1979.

I do have the information you requested. I have not verified it all but here's what I know so perhaps you'll be able to use that Her father was William R. Johnson who was born in Indiana abt 1851. Her mother's name was Rebecca born in Missouri about 1853. Her grandfather was also William R. Johnson born in Surey, Wilkes, N. Carolina and grandmother was Loraine Marine born in Washington, Randolph Co., Indiana @1830. If this is all correct there should be additional information available through normal channels.

I am looking for information about John Noel Mathes, Born 1916 in Oklahoma and Died 1995 in Oklahoma. He married Melba Ellen Maupin and they had four children, Barbra, Melba Susie, Vivian, and John Van (my father-in-law). I believe his father's name was John H Mathes. I don't know who his mother was. I know that after John and Melba divorced, John had at least one other son. I don't know what his name is. Any help in this is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your reply. I am looking for an adoptee born in 1966. Her name at birth was Donna Marie Ramaesiri. We found that there was a Donna Marie Mathes born on the same day in Missouri and we would like to contact her to see if she is possibly the same person. She would be 42 years old.

MY Mothers Dad was a son of William David Mathes and MaryAnn Fifer and my sister did a Family Tree Book a few years ago and the information on William David shows He died November 30.1905 in Custer City oklahoma and mary Ann Fifer Died Mar 1 1928Alamosa Colorado and they are aboth buried in Custer City oklahoma.

I'm John Mathes Jr. born in cincinnatti in 63. My father was John Mathes, grandmother Betty Mathes born in 27. She had 2 sisters . One was called Bubbles and the others name was Georgia. My great grand mother remarried and her last name was changed to King, can not remember my great great grand mothers name but she was from Tennesse.

James Mathes - Weakley County, Tennessee

I am looking for information about my grandfather, James Mathes. Born around 1913 and died sometime around 1939 in Weakley County. Is thought to have been a cook in a hotel restaurant possibly in Hickman or Union City, TN. Married Gladys Thompson and had one son in 1931.

I'm particularly glad to hear from you, since I have very little information on the descendants of Rothel Buford Mathes and quite a bit more on other lines of this family. I presume you've seen my Family Tree on Ancestry.com, which shows what I have although there are some notes and pictures and things that aren't on there. I would much appreciate receiving a family tree or any breakdown you can give me on your side of the family. Looking for information on this person. I have conflicting information that indicates his name my have have been John Calvin Mathes. I have information that indicates he was married to Mary J Dunlap and that he was a Preacher in the Church of God. I believe he was from the Eastern TN area and that she was too. Could have possibly been from western NC area as well.

i also graduated in 1979, i do remember you but it's been along time since the last time i saw you. your mom is peggy right? i just think the world of her. thanks for the info, i'll be sure and pass it on to june, i know i searched the census records over and over but just couldn't find anything, we, (june, don, duke and myself) went looking for cemeteries down around black and oates to see if we could find any info, found some but of course not exactly what we were looking for. i now live at bunker, mo which is not that far from black and oates. maybe i'll try again and see what i can find. thanks again for the info.

i was married to your cousin duke dickinson we are now divorced although i do keep in contact with him and the family. i gave all the family history to maryetta and i believe she has it stored, and it has been a long time since i have even seen all the info. i know i had hit a brickwall when it came to ida, i never could find out who her parents were. if you have this info, i know june would appreciate hearing from you, and actually so would i. in doing family history over the many years, there's nothing more frustating than a brickwall. thanks for your reply and look forward to hearing from you again.
