Mary Mathews was not married to Isaac Edward Mathews. This is incorrect information propogated from an unsourced pamphlet written in the 1920s and copied virtually verbatim by John R. Boots for his book on various Mat(t)hews lines.

I have spent 2 years researching the WWI names on Pagham's War Memorial. We have traced families of 16 of the 20 but John Mathews' family has proved elusive. Through a local obitary I understand that John had a younger brother. The grave of his parents is in the churchyard I am very happy to provide a photo of same. The windows in John's memory are shortly being sent for repair and Pagham Church would be DELIGHTED if the family could be represented at the re-dedication. My e-mail is zen118677@zen.co.uk. I wait with supressed excitement.

I have just found your message, quite by accident. I have been doing some research on the Mathews family on behalf of a friend who wishes to contact any living relatives William Mathews (and his brother George) of Edgbaston. William was JL Mathews' grandfather. Are you related? If so, I would be very interested to hear from you and can explain further.

Barbara

His father was born in Virginia.I believe he was from a Quaker family. He had nine children. He married Malinda Mayo, granddaughter of John Mayo ,a revolutionary war veteran. He met Malinda while working as a farm hand on Joseph Mayos farm.He was married in wilkes co. georgia in 1835.He moved to Alabama about 1850.Three of his sons fought in the civil war.papers from past relatives said he gave supplies to the confederates. He was supposedly the only boy in his family. Two of his sisters were Peggy and Gillie. One lived in Goshen ,Ala.and the other moved to Louisiana. If you have or come across anything that matches up with any of this. Please let me know.

Betty Mathews Unger

Still looking for information on William Mathews connection with Governor William Leete of early New England,Connecticut Circa:1640-1680. I have heard that William Mathews was the farm Manager for the Governor. Also looking for a possible Europe DNA connection to this 1600's William Mathews from England, Wales. Mathews/Matthews DNA of my family is available with Family Tree, and verified to match with William Mathews of 1600's New Haven. His origins are still allusive, some say the LDS records reflect he was the son of another William Mathews/Mathewes of London England 1600's, and several family researchers believe he was from Wales. Sure could use some help in defining his origins.

Re: Correction/additional info: Mathews m. Ivy, Rose Hill, Duplin County, NC

Corrections.additional info to the first Post.
My aunts gave me a lot of oral information and I am trying to follow up on it.
Its my understanding that the Essex Mathews Family lives on or near the Wells farm in Duplin County. They referred to him as Mr. Wells. The Wells family also raised Strawberries and my grandfather would go visit the Wells family each year to get strawberries after moving to Wayne County.

I have nothing before 1900 Census. Essex and Bessie (Ivy) Mathews were enumerated in the 1900 Census. Later years I found that some of the daughters living nearby. Great Grandma Laura was listed as HOH with family and Newkirk boarders. Some of the grandchilden were Newkirks.

When I mentioned she, I was referring to Walter and Hattie Mathews' mother, she died when my grandpa Walter and Gr Aunt Hattie Jane were 4 of 5 years old. His sister Hattie had 4 children. I have not been able to find them in the Census. What could have happen to them? Were those birth not reported since she was not married at the time. She married the father later. But she died at age 30 years of age. Abraham and Laura (Mathews) Bowen were enumerated in the Census. I have her marriage and death certificate thanks to Keith Lanier. Noone seemms to know what happen to the Bowen children after the mother died: Abe, Jr., Edna, Martha (Tinsey) and Thomas Mathews or Bowen were the children's names. I have looked for both surnames and can't fine any of them.
Your help is needed in the matter. Thanks for reading my post.
Note: My grandfather's name was changed sometime between his birth and marriage to my grandmother.I don't know why.
My e-mail address is ally3729@aol.com

Alice West Ferguson
Granddaughter of Walter Mathews/Mathis

Re: Louis (Lewis) & Ida Mathews - Piatt County, IL - 1860s-1890s

Me again... since my post I've been able to travel to Piatt Cty, IL and do some more digging, so perhaps some of my new-found info can help...

Louis Mathews married Ida B Vail in 1883 in Piatt Cty, IL

Ida B Vail gave birth to Elmer Ray Mathews in 1889

Ida B Vail gave birth to Cecil Fay mathews in 1893

Ida B Vail died shortly thereafter (likely due to complications from childbirth, perhaps?)

Louis Mathews married a Leichner in Piatt Cty 1894

Louis Mathews died in Bloomington, IL (not indiana) in 1899 after "being ill for many years"... even though he was not yet even 40.

Still don't have a birthdate (only a birthyear as per 1880 census where he was a hired farm-hand.

No idea who his parents are... that's my big brick wall.

Marc - I'm trying to connect my Mathews family back before my gggrandfather Francis Richard Mathews born in 1812 in GAand lived most of his life in FL. Could this be a relation to your Mathews? If so, do you have your pedigree posted on Ancestry.com? Thanks, Karima
