They were from Collores in Yauco
or
Maximino Mattei Rivera (son of Francisco and Rosa. Had a brother Clemente and sister Maria. Maximino married Dominga Vasquez
children: Raul/Roland bc 1914, Isidra/Maria bc 1915, Rosa Ester bc 1917, Miximino 1918-2002, Margarita bc 1922, Libertad bc 1925.
They were from Yauco Sur.

Anthony J. Mattee was my father's name. His father's name was Alfonso Mattei(at least that is what is on the grave headstone)
Could this be the same Anthony J. Mattei you are referring to but some where the name was changed?

Hi Peter, thank you so much for your last email, unfortunately John does not recall you as he was quite young when they left Gromignana, but Aurelia recalls you very well and your dear late parents, she asked me to send you her best wishes. We were in Gromignana for about six weeks this June/July, we really love it there, our eldest daughter Tania had been in Florence for three years studying at the Florence Academy of Art, we went for her graduation. She is now home visiting before returning to work in New York, she lived there five years before heading to Florence, she is a Lawyer but wanted a little break hence went to study art. We also have a daughter Jacqueline in Sydney she is a Fashion Designer and a son Paul he is the only one in Melbourne. Where do you live in the States?
Can you tell me what Hugo did for a living? there are so many Mattei's and Grisanti's who went to the States whom I have very little information about, perhaps you may remember some, I will look up the names and email you again.

Hello, Loretta. Thanks for emailing back to me. I tried to replay earlier, but apparently it did not work. So, I'm writing this message again. As I said, my mother was Massilla's and Hugo's cousin. I knew Paolo and Aurelia very well. Their son, Giocondo (John?) and I used to play together in Gromignana, before they left for Australia. Maybe John will remember me as Giuseppe, the son of Renato and Carolina Lucchesi. Massilla's brother, Hugo, used to come to Gromignana every so often to visit his relatives. He always paid a visit to us and his other cousin, Assunta Donati, who lived very closed to us. He was a great guy. My wife and I visited him in Sarasota, Florida in December 1972, during our honeymoon and we spent the New Year together. I think Hugo had two sons (I'm not sure), and I think they still live in Sarasota. Give my best to your husband and ask him if he remembers me.

Hello Peter, thank you for email, how interesting, I am not directly related, I am the wife of John Mattei his grandparents were Massilla & Francesco, they had two children Paolo and Lidia. (Paolo was John's father his mother is Aurelia Angeli). You mention that your mother was Massilla's cousin, can you give me any other information. I have been working on a Family Tree for the Mattei family so always appreciate any further help, especially any information on Hugo. We live in Melbourne Australia. Regards Loretta.

Loretta, I came to the US from Gromignana in 1972. I knew your grandparents very well. Francesco and Massilla were related to my mother. Massilla was my mother's cousin. Her brother, Hugo, lived in Florida in the city of Sarasota. I visited him with my wife and we spent New Year's day at his house.
You said that Francesco e Massilla Mattei are your grandparents. Maybe I know your parents also.

Anthony Mattei had a daughter named Nancy. I met her once when she was about 13-14. She came to Phila to spend the summer at Medford Lakes with Bobby Mattei and his wife, who have since divorced. Are you Nancy? Please if you are not do not play any kind of jokes. It would be cruel.

Dignan. He is the brother of Marguerite Dignan who married
William Joseph Mattei about 1933 in Chicago, Cook County,
Illinois. He was born 2 Jun 1902. He was the son of Giuseppe Mattei (b. 16 Jun 1877 in Collodi, Toscana, Italia)
and Bianca Burlini (b. 22 Feb 1883 in Veneri, Toscana, Italia).
William J. Mattei died 29 Dec 1975 in Long Beach, Nassau,
NY and is buried at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Gave 1, Lot 17,
Block 5 Section 14, Hillside, Illinois. I believe I am related
to Susan Sloan but not directly, it may only be by marriage
of my Aunt to William Joseph Mattei who is the son of
Giuseppe Mattei and Bianca Burlini. But I am always looking
for relations of my father's family even 'cousins removed'.

As for the employee I had spoken to, (nearly fell of my chair) I believe his mothers name is Liza Mattei from Brooklyn- P.R as well.

The other guy I met, his name is John Mattei.. I think from Brooklyn, Italian descent. I will have to sit and interview them. Maybe I can get some info from them.

I will have to do this quick cause I'm movng to VA soon. And probably never see them again..

Seems a lot of PR Mattei's have the Italian connection and it is not as rare as I thought either. The family I am researching has been in PR since before 1900. Hope you find that you are related to them.

Hi. My name is Yanira Mattei from Brooklyn NY. My parents are from PR. My dad's name is Idalberto Mattei (maybe from Yauco). My mom is Santa Inez Collazo (from Salinas) .. I know my dad's father/ family migrated from Italy to P.R at some point during the late 30's or early 40's. I wish I had more info but my dad suffered a stroke and sadly doesn't remember much anymore :( . I will try and contact his sisters and maybe they can fill me in...

I have 1 older sister "Mayra Mattei, and 5 younger brothers, Luis, Edwin, Alberto, Jason, and Adrien Mattei.

Just the other day i was talking to my employee, he told me he wanted to change his last name to Mattei (his mothers maiden name)

Then I met another guy his name was John Mattei.
Good friend of the owner of the place I work.

So amazing! Hare I am thinking they are a numbered few "MATTEI's" and lo-and behold... I know we are all connected in some way.. even if just by name...

I will get back to you all when I get more info!

finding out if father is dead

My mother Marie Wagner married Anthony J. Mattei back in the 1940's, I was born in 1946. Anthony had brother Roxy, Domonic, Charels, sisters, Rita, mary and Louise. His mother was called Fanny and his father was Roberto. They lived on Fitzwater St in So Philly PA. My father left my mother at the hospital and went to Chicago to live while there and still married to my mother he married a woman named Gladys, they had three children, Robert passed as a baby and then Michael and Nancy. Met my father when I was 21 years old in So. Philly, met Michael and Nancy. Can't locate my father? Is he dead. Does anyone know? Can't find obits.

I have several family members that still live in lenola, with the Macarro, Terelle and Mastrobattista surnames. My Uncle Armand Macarro married a Mattei, Anita, after the war. Aunt Anita's family came over her in the early 20's as well. My Grandparents came over in the late 20's, and met and married here.

My parents went back 2 years ago for the big feast and met relatives, Terelle's, from Australia, Brazil as well as the US.

There was a Francisco Mattei in Yauco, Puerto Rico in 1910. He had 2 sons - Clemente and Maximino. Maximino had 2 sons - Rolando and Maximino Jr. as well as 2 daughters. There is a possiblity that Maximino died in the New England area of the U.S. Are you related to this family?

I saw the message you had posted on Ancestry.com. It was an old message but I have just begun to work on my genealogy. Frank Mattei was my grandfather. He was born in Brescia, Italy. I believe you are my cousin. Judy Wright is my first cousin and I think she must be your mother. My mother's name was Stella West and Ada, your grandmother, was her older sister. If I have any of this right, please let me know. You said Frank was from Naples, but I had always understood is was Brescia. Brescia is where we stayed when I was a little girl and we stayed with members of his family. He married Elizabeth Gregory on Dec. 25, 1998. I have an old family bible that belonged to them and it has some important dates in it. Let me know if you are Judy's daughter. I'd love to talk with you and exchange information!

Loretta, I just read your message. My grandfather's name was Francesco Mattei' and he came here from Brescia, Italy in the early 1890's. I don't know anything about his parents, though I doubt they were ever legally married. I remember staying with a relative named Cecilia when I was a child in Italy. My Maria Martinoia was the d.o. Josephi Martinoia & Catherina Moretti. I have some civic records from Cevio and there are Raspinis in my line. E-mail me your mailing address and I will send you copies of these records. My Swiss ancestors also were in Marin & Sonoma counties and later went to Humboldt County, CA as did many Italian-Swiss. Most became dairymen.

While researching Terelle/Trella/Trilla of Lenola thru the Ellis Island Records, several Marocco + various spellings have been found who are related to our Terelle clan. Other surnames inter-related are Guglietta, Panone, Antigiovanni, Mastrobattista..all with various mis-spellings from the Ellis Island transcribers. Does this coincide with any of your clan?

Hi there - My name is Tim Chapman. I live in London, England and am originally from New Zealand. My g g g g grandmother was Margherita Maria Day, and my g g g g g grandmother was Anna Mattei, married to Alexanda Day.

Margherita Maria married John Cridland, and had Henry John Cridland.

Henry John Cridland married Mary Blake (?) and had at least one daughter Frances Maria Cridland (born 1847)

Frances Maria married James Samual Smart Mason and lived in New Zealand where they had Emma Mason.

Emma Mason was my great grandmother.

Please is you have any information on Magherita Maria Day, her mother Anna Mattei, or any of the family I would love to hear from you. My email is tim@timandsarah.co.nz.

I am trying to find out more information about my g-g-g-grandmother, Anna MATTEI who married Alexander DAY. They had one child that I know of: Margherita Maria DAY born 1792. I understand Anna came from the Duchal House of MATTEI in Italy. Is there an Italian version of Burke's Peerage I can look at? Any help very much appreciated.
