I can tell you that the Church of Latter Day Saints, located in Utah, has a copy of just about all birth records from the small villages in Italy. I found my father's birth record from 1897 and can trace back even farther. It is the same town you were referring to. It was founded in the 2nd Century. If you go to an Italian Embassy as I did, they will have a phone directory with the name of Matteo in the Caserta region.
