Matti's in the Philippines

You may not know it but there are Matti's in the Philippines. Not one of us could give a definite account of how we really ended up here but the common story goes that an Italian trader came to the Philippines sometime towards the end of the 19th century to try his luck as a trader. He ended up in the southern province of Negros Occidental in the Visayas region of the country where sugar is abundant. He became a trader of sugar and eventually settled there.
The Matti's have strived over the years and we have reknowned past and present family members in politics, commerce and the arts.
Maybe you could help us with Matti Citizen 0 who started our clan here.

Dear Fellow Matti descendant,
It is very interesting to me that your ancestor came from Italy - My Matty / Matti ancestors all definitely came from Switzerland. I have been told that Matti is a very common Swiss surname. I hope you find the links you need! Ani
