I am looking for a Matz family that hosted my father-in-law, Simon Horenstein, during WWII. The mother was a cousin from his mother's side (Anna Kviat) or his maternal grandmother (Eliza Revitz), both from Skvira, Ukraine (formerly Russia). Simon recalls two daughters and one son in the family, probably born after 1930.

I am looking for the connection between the family of Jacob & Anna Maria (Jung) Matz with my Reinhard family.

Jacob (1849-1910) & Anna Maria (1855-1917) resided in Spirkelbach (Rheinland-Pfalz) until about 1879, when they settled in the Guthrie & Dallas county area of Iowa.

My great grandmother, Anna Maria (Reinhard) Rauch, often visited & corresponded with this Matz family. Mrs. Rauch lived in Buffalo, Scott Co., Iowa from 1855-1937. Her parents were Johan Jakob & Anna Maria (Jung) Reinhard. All were born in Spirkelbach.

The Wilgartswiesen Evangelical Church baptismal records show many connections between the Matz, Jung, Reinhard and Braun families.

According to oral history in my family, the Fett, Hadley & Colbert families were connected to the Matz line, as well.

Is anyone working on the Spirkelbach Matz family?

I received a marriage record dated Feb. 4, 1851 from the Archdiocese of Cincinnati for Peter Ducher (should be Duchscher) and Catharina Matz. They were married at St. Joseph Church in Cincinnati. I also have baptismal records from that church for two children, Catharina Lucia born April 1852, and Theodor born March 1854. Both Theodor and Catharina Matz Ducher died in July 1854, she was 26 years of age.. I'm hoping someone knows something about the Matz family in Cincinnati and will contact me. Marian

The last letter we have from her bears the address "170 Erb Street West, Apt. 402, Waterloo, Ontario N2L 1V4, Canada" and is postmarked 4 December 1972. In 72 Anna writes her Christmas letter in perfect Danish, even after around 60 years overseas. Does anyone have information about Anna - her life, her family? He married a Marion Elizabeth Crall, she was born Jan. 15, 1909 in Stanton NE, she died Jan. 27, 1930 in Cheyenne, WY. Don't know when she married this Matz, but they had a son Willaim James Matz, born May 22, 1929 in Cheyenne, WY, and he died Jan. 8, 1930. One of their children was Conrad Matz or Moots who was born 30 April 1775 in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania and died 19 November 1853 in Logan Co., Ohio.

I am wondering if we might be related in someway regarding the Matz/Spirkelbach connection.

My gg grandfather, Johann Jakob Reinhart (spelled various ways), and his wife, Anna Maria Jung left Spirkelbach in 1850, arriving in New Orleans, then traveling to Evansville, Indiana.

In 1855, they moved to Buffalo, Scott Co., Iowa.

My mother recalls we had family by the name of Matz who were living in the Menlo/Stuart/Redfield, Iowa area in the late 1800's & early 1900's.

Did any of your Matz line settle in western Iowa?

Mrs. Augusta Matz

"Mrs. Augusta Matz of South Hancock died early Monday
morning. The lady for years was a resident of our
village and one highly respected by all who knew her.
Left a widow while young, with four little ones to
care for, she labored long and successfully to rear
them and make good citizens of them. Her one son,
August, has never married but lived with her and they
have made a home for each other at the farm where she
died. Mrs. Matz was about 74 years of age and has two
married daughters still living, Mrs August Ploetz, and
Mrs. Gust Berg, besides grandchildren who will miss
her greatly. Funeral services were held Thursday
afternoon with the interment in St. Paul's cemetary at
Coloma."

End of story. St. Paul's Church no longer exist. So
the Cemetary has a different name now.

Please help me find my moms family. She died to early to tell us what she knew. Her father was murdered and her mother died during child birth. She went to a catholic convent at 13. How do I find these people? Any information from North Dakota would be helpful. I do know she was born in Fargo. Her father was killed in a very strange way. I would think the paper would have wrote about it. Is there any way I can find that information? It could probably help me. Thank you for trying even if you don't find anything.

Just curious if anyone has any information on an Adolf (sp?) Matz that lived in Montello, WI. My family owns a home that was built by A. Matz in 1906. There is a piece of stone or something at the top of one of the peaks of the house that says A. Matz 1906. Thanks.
