I would love to see what your grandfather has written down. My grandfather always said that our name was originally Maldoon (meaning cross on a hill), then changed to Maulding, and then to Mauldin.

My father does not believe this is true, I would love to find out.

Please contact me at live@oakcliffgreen.com

In researching this family, I ordered the Leonardo Andrea files from the LDS library. Included in his correspondence was the answer to this question.
This was the widow of James Lawrence Mauldin who came to Anderson with his older brother, Benjamin F. Mauldin and his nephew, Baylis F Crayton. Notice that they are so close in age, you might think they were cousins. Their sister, Mary Thompson Mauldin married Samuel Crayton when she was bout 16 years old. Her father, Joab had died when she was only 14 years old. Her mother Jane Liddell Mauldin had five sons after Mary was born about 1804.

James Lawrence Mauldin was born about 1816 and died in 1845. His only son, Joab L. Mauldin, was born about 1841, enlisted in the CSA and was died in 1864.
Payments were made to J.E. Mauldin from her son's estate. Estate adm. by B F Mauldin and T S Crayton. (T S Crayton was B F Crayton's brother - both were sons of Mary Thompson Mauldin and her husband Samuel Crayton)
J.E. Mauldin lived in the home of B F Crayton for decades until her death.

Hope this helps

Hi,
I know it's been a very long time since I communicated with you (tommie111 2003). I was wondering if you ever found Robert Mauldin? As I stated 6 yrs ago, my b-mother was Eleanor Mauldin, I believe???? but have never been able to find any family and was hoping that you found Robert. I understand it would be a longshot for me but there is always hope.
birthname brenda bea mauldin

Oops - I said that Joab and Jane Mauldin were from Greenville Co, SC - actually, Joab owned property on George's Creek which is a tributary of the Saluda River which divides Pickens Co, SC from Greenville Co, SC. During his lifetime (ca 1770-1818), the area was Pendleton District, SC and Washington District, SC.

Homer K Mauldin was called "Peck". He was a favorite older brother of my father J. W. Mauldin (Jr) (Joseph Walter Mauldin)(died 1997).

Other brothers/sisters were Horass (wife Minnie), Jess (wife Odeil), Elizabeth Mauldin French, Thelma Mauldin Linville, Vera Mauldin Mills.

Father was Joseph Walter Mauldin Sr, born April 1, 1858/9 in Talledega, AL. Wife, Alice Kelly

JW Mauldin Sr. Moved from Talledaga, AL > Lenard, TX > Ira (Scurry Co), TX > Fort Worth TX. He was a farmer/carpenter and helped build Camp Bowie during WWI.

Alice Kelly moved from Missouri > Lenard, TX > Ira (Scurry Co), TX > Fort Worth TX. I remember her as a young boy.

JW Mauldin Sr's father was William Mordecai Mauldin, born 1813 in Franklin (Banks) Co GA. Wife was Virginia Simmons. Both are buried in Lenard TX.

His father was Richard Mauldin, born 1760-1770 in South Carolina, died 1832 Franklin (Banks) Co Ga. Mother was Elizabeth Machen. Her father is Sgt Henry Machen who served in the American Revolution. Richard Mauldin is listed as an American Rev Soldier buried in Franklin(Banks) GA... but have not found any other evidence as such.

I am currently in the process of finding the father of Richard Mauldin which has proved a tough proposition.

There is an early Mauldin group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/early_mauldin/ that you may want to join.

I found this page while searching for info on Alice Kelly, wife of JW Mauldin Sr. If you have any more info on Alice, I would appreciate it.

Thanks -
Ron Mauldin
817-812-2119

Rhonda, Did you find your mother? She was one of my best friends growing up. I dont know her current address, but I am sure I could come up with it with some research if you havent contacted her yet. Seeing your post made my heart jump. She wanted you so bad, but was so young and unsure. I think her mother Norma made the arrangements for your adoption. After coming back to Oklahoma she was in such a depression from giving you up, it took her years to come to terms with it I believe. I see this is an old post so my prayer is that the two of you have reunited. God Bless, Charlene

Re: Mauldin Family Texas

Two of my Dad's (Taft Davis) siblings married into the Mauldin family. Mildred Davis married Emmett B. Mauldin and Vernie Davis married Eileen Mauldin. I believe Eileen would be your g-aunt. She married a Brewer after Vernie Davis died. I do not have the Mauldin genealogy, other than the parents of Emmett and Eileen and their siblings. If you will read castle96 message to me on 20 Jun 2008 you may learn more. Thanks to castle96 I had the answers to my questions in a very short time.

My name is Jason Mauldin and my grandfather is Rex L Mauldin. I know at least a dozen Mauldins related to Rex if you would like to add any information. I would love to know more history of the Mauldin family tree if you have it.

Re: Mauldin, Albert Fulton Stella

Albert and Stella are my great grandparents. Albert Fulton was born Sept 22 1863 Tennessee he died Feb 26 1945 Garfield Co Oklahoma. his father was William Mauldin born March 28 1834 lincoln co Tennesse which is now Delina Marshall Tennessee, unsure on the date he died but he might have drowned in Reelfoot Lake Lake Co Tn. Alberts mother was Martha Cummings Tooley unsure on her birth date and death date. Stella Forrest Hill Albert's wife was born 1867 Obion Co Tennessee, her date of death was after 1946 she is not buried next to her husband so I am now thinking she went to live with her son Harry Declair Mauldin and he died in Fresno California. Stella's parents were Stephen J Hill born 1832 and died aft 1880 in Lake Co Tennessee, her mother was one Susan E Caruthers born 1835 in Tennessee and died 1879 in Lake Co Tennessee. Hope this helps.

Anna Hutton-Page
