Cpl. Maupin, US Army, Camp Beale, CA 1943

I have an old letter written to my grandmother, postmarked October 3, 1943, written by Cpl. ? Maupin. The return address indicates he was in the US Army and stationed in Camp Beale, CA. I'm unable to make out the initials of the first name.

My grandmother would've been 18 years old when the this letter was written to her. I'm sure it was a boyfriend but nonetheless quite a great find!

If this is a member of your family let me know and I'd be happy to share.

Mary J. Maupin

I'm looking for information on Mary J. Maupin. Born approximately 1850 or 1851 in Oregon. She was married to my great great grandfather William Fisher who was born in Indiana. According to the 1930 census, Mary was the sister of John Maupin b. 1866. The census says that th Mary's father was born in Kentucky and her mother was born in Illinois. That's all I know. I would appreciate any information anyone may be able to give.

Maupin -Brown bible

I'm very interested in the bible. My gggrandfther was Allen Irvin Brown , he was born in 1836 in Boles Franklin co. Mo. My ggrandfather married Sarah Jane Bailey whose mother was Margaret Patton , Margaret 's mother was Margaret Maupin Patton. So there is a connection to both maupin and Brown in my family. i know very little about my gggrandfather Allen Irvin's family I have hit a brick wall on the Brown family. Both of my family lines lived in Franklin Co. Mo. Alice Quick

chickasaw maupins

I recently reviewed the Dawes enrollment cards for the Chickasaw nation and found over one hundred Maupins.

Here are my Maupins: Nicey Ann Maupin (Raglin) b.1853 in Missouri, daughter of Cynthia Ann Maupin b.1837 in Kentucky, married John Thomas Raglin in 1851, Daviess Co. Missouri, and left Missouri by covered wagon in 1854, accompanied by many (as yet) unknown Maupins. Cynthia Ann Maupin's mother was Frances (Franky) Maupin b. 1818 in Kentucky. I suspect that Frances or Cynthia Ann or even John Raglin Sr. were part Indian. Many of their children married into the Nomlaki Tribe in Tehama County California. Some of their decendants are listed as "Half-breed head of household" (!) in ethnographic census in California. When checking names it is clear some were born in Missouri. The one connection is the Chickasaw one. Ragland (alternate surname spelling for John found in Census) was also found on Chickasaw Rolls. If you know more or have information connected with them, I would love to have it. This has been a great mystery (the Native American connection) so far.

If you go to the Rootsweb Chickasaw Board you can find out how to access the Dawes enrollment cards. I think it is
http:/userdb.rootsweb.com/native american

I know that Ruth Margaret had 3 daughters and Roy Elvis had 2 children, Julia Elaine Maupin 1943 & Lawrence Elvis Maupin 1950.

I bought an exceptinal photo identified as DITA MAUPIN. I found her in the 1900 Census in Union, Sullivan County, MO with her parents P. O. MAUPIN, her mother Cellie, and brother Oral. In 1910, she is living with her family in Penn, Sullivan County, MO. The family now includes Tina and Lee also.

She has very curly dark hair in the photo. She is wearing a light colored dress with darker ribbons streaming down the front. She is also wearing a scarf around her neck. Hanging from her neck is a large pocket watch.

I am not related, but I would like to connect this photo with a family member or family researcher. Please contact me if you have an interest in this photo.
Hello,

I'm looking after information about the family of Howard P. Maupin born in Bradford, Ill. on May 5 1918. He married Olga Vavra on July 26 1945. He had 5 children: Gerry, John, Greg, Jane and Judith. He died on February 27 1980 following surgery.
He was a US fighter pilot (P-47) during WW2 and shot down above Belgium by the Nazis. He could escape the enemy and survived the war with the help of the Belgian Underground forces. My grandfather was with the Belgian Underground and I'm doing research about the plane crashes and escaping stories of allied pilots in my region.
Any help is welcome!
Greetings from Belgium

Alex260966

alex260966@yahoo.com

Newspaper reports of the Maupin name in Oklahoma City area

I have place many links to The Oklahoman Newspaper from 1940-2006. Whereever they listed a Maupin name I placed it there in hopes that it would help someone. The ones related to myself I have asked for more info if someone knows about them. Only a few are of interest to me but didn't want to just throw them away since I paid for them and had them. There are many other names listed but I was only interested in the Maupin name.
Here is the link to the Maupin name:
http://genforum.com/maupin/

I also placed some on the Oklahoma County site.
Any Maupin Family with Cherokee or Chickasaw? My Maupins lived In Missouri (Montgomery Co., Franklin Co., Gasconade Co.).

My grandmother was Edna Clara Maupin and her mother was Cora Belle Maupin (daughter of John and Mary Virginia Maupin). My grandmother was born "out-of-wedlock." My gr-grandmother, Cora Belle married John Arnold when my grandmother, Edna was 4 1/2 years old. We have had our maternal DNA with tested National Geographic and have Cherokee/Chickasaw (through FamilyTree DNA mitrosearch). I have had my Ancestry DNA tested with another lab also with positive Native American results. I now know that I have Native American from maternal and paternal. Are there any other Maupins with any Native American? We are hitting brickwalls, plus maybe we will find our grandma's father's line through DNA.We have been DNA matched to Ghigooie descendants (Cherokee Bird Clan), Sally Senora Love (Chickasaw) descendants and other surnames. Any help is greatly appreciated! Please email me at mtamboutdoors@worldnet.att.net

Could have lived there before 1907 and after 1913. I have documents that show definitly(sp) they lived there between those years. Pearl was my husbands great-grandfather's (David L. Trumbly) sister.
Maupins in Franklin Co. MO / Austin, TX

My Great-great-grandfather was John W. Maupin from Franklin Co. MO. He is buried here in Austin in Mt Calvery Cemetery. He was born 1839 and died in 1911 according to the tombstone. I have searched the web and found (unconfirmed) that his father is also named John and is from Kentucky. The 1860 Census lists his age as 55 so he would have been born about 1805. I have found a "Maupin Family History" on the Internet but while it show a John Maupin in Kentucky about the same time, it does not have a John Maupin with a birth date close to 1805. It shows a John Maupin (1760-1810) whose parents are John Maupin & Frances Dabney from Virginia. The URL for this history is www.ku.edu/heritage/cousin/maupin.html. I am wondering if this line connects with mine.

I am relatively new at this and I would really appreciate any information. Thanks, J. Dan Maupin

Mariah MAUPIN (1795-after1880)

Mariah MAUPIN, daughter of Thomas MAUPIN and Elizabeth MICHIE, was born in Virginia (probably Albemarle Co.) on 10 June 1795. She married James GOODMAN on 18 Sep. 1810 in Madison Co., KY. They later moved to Monroe Co., MO, where James GOODMAN died before October 1840. Per books by Miller and Shaffett, their children were "Tine" (I believe "Valentine"), Charles, Michie, Thomas, Joseph and Margaret. Mariah then married Elias M. WALKER on 2 Nov. 1843 in Daviess Co., MO. Elias died in 1850, and Mariah then married Nathan COX on 29 Apr. 1853 in Daviess Co., MO. (Daviess Co. marriage record incorrectly lists COX as CASE.) Nathan COX died in 1854. Mariah then is listed as living with her daughter Margaret (who had married Joshua H. W. PUMPHREY) and Margaret's family in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 Platte Co., MO, censuses. Does anyone know when and where Mariah died and where she is buried?
Marie Hersent Maupin (Mrs. Thomas Creas(e)

When I visited Williamsburg in 1996 (I think). I saw a grave marker for Mrs Thomas Creas. located very close to the Bruton Parish Church building. I thought I had a picture but can't find it.. When I visited Williamsburg again last week a large portion of the graveyard close to the church had been bricked over to provide walkways for the tourists. The marker which I had seen in 1996 was gone. When I checked with the church they acknowledged that Marie (Mrs Thomas Creas) passed away in 1748 but said they did not know where she was buried. Has anyone else seen this grave marker?

My great grandmother was Pearl Maupin, the daughter of John Maupin. I have found some information on John but not alot. I wonder if he served during the American Civil War? He is buried in Montgomery County Missouri around 1909.

James R. Maupin - obit 1927 VA

This obit. is from The Daily Progress, Charlottesville, VA: 1927

"Confederate Veteran Dies Near Glendower - Fought During Civil War Under
Capt. H.C. Michie - Mr. J.R. Maupin, a well known farmer of the south side
of the county, died last Monday at his home near Glendower, after an illness
extending over two years. Mr. Maupin was born at Ivy, 85 years ago, the son
of Price Maupin. He fought throughout the four year of the Civil War as a
member of the Nineteenth Virginia Regiment, under the command of the late
Capt. H.Clay Michie. Mr. Maupin is survived by his wife and eight children.
The interment was held in the cemetary at Scottsville. The pallbearers were
his nephews - Franklin Graves and Rosser Farrar, of Ivy; B.B.Maupin of this
city, and Mr. Hughes of Keene. The flower bearers were his nieces, Misses
Emma, Edith and Esther Farrar, of Ivy."

Notations: James R. Maupin's father should be Rice Maupin, not Price
Maupin, the newspaper misspelled his name.

It mentions a Franklin Graves as my gg-grandfather's nephew, but, Rosser Farrar would have been his grandson not nephew. Emma, Edith and Esther Farrar were his grandaughters, not nieces. So the newspaper made a lot of mistakes. I don't know who Franklin Graves or B.B. Maupin are.

This obit. is from The Daily Progress, Charlottesville, VA: Aug. 15, 1927 (he auctually died I believe on Aug. 8)

James's wife Emma died just a few weeks later. Emma was not my gg-grandmother. James first wife Lucy A. Maupin was my grandmother, but, Emma P. Sutphin Maupin raised Lucy's children and they seemed to have a good relationship with her from the post cards that I have read. Sadly, after my gg-grandfather James R. Maupin died and his wife Emma shortly after, James daughter Lillie B. Maupin Farrar (my g-grandmother) died in Dec. of 1927. All three died within a period of 4 months.

Sherry Mason

Maupin Book-what not to do and what to do

The Maupin Book titled: The Story of Gabriel and Marie Maupin....refugees to America by Mrs. Dorothy Maupin Shaffett is no longer available via Mrs. Shaffett. Do not call her. Do, however, contact your library reference desk and see if they can provide it by interlibrary loan. I was told NYC Lib. does have access to the book and many others may too. When I called Mrs. Shaffett was saddened in that her sister is dying. She is older than Mrs. Shaffett who is in her eighties. If you have received the book from her or if your connected to the Maupin surname a card with a short note of encouragement would not go amiss. Her address is:
1819 N. 82nd St.
Kansas City, KS 66112

I have traced the above family in the 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 Census. Both Mitchel and Sarah were born in KY. Their children all born in MO. were James N., Georgianne, John L., Cornelius N., Mitchel G., Wilmeth E., Helina F., Arzelia and Anna. By 1870 Mitchel was gone and Sally was the Head of Household. Am interested in Arzelia who was listed as 8 years old in the 1870 Census. By 1880 she was no longer a member of the Maupin household. I'm trying to verify the fact that she was the "Arrie" that shows up in the 1880 Census as the 17 yr. old wife of Jas. Burruss, son of John C. C. Burruss.
The Maupin family lived close by the Burruss family in Keytesville in 1880. My grandfather James F. Burruss was born in 1881 in Carrollton, Mo. His Death Certificate listed his father as James L. Burruss (the Jas. Burruss above) and mother as Irene Maupin. I will greatly appreciate any information you can provide regarding Arrie/Arzelia/Irene?
